It is looking more like we will be sliding into cold next week with the potential for snow there. Not a very long lived affair according to GFS but it s going to be a bit of a shock for sure.

Monday could be rather snowy for the northern half of the UK!

Yikes! Thanks for the early warning Kitten!

mankyscotslass · 08/01/2014 13:59

How far north is Northern?

We have thankfully missed the worst of the weather here in Greater Manchester.

SlowlorisIncognito · 08/01/2014 14:04

In Plymouth today, the rain has been constant but not too heavy. However, due to the wet ground and full drains ect there is a lot of surface water on roads, deep puddles and flooding in all the usual places, as well as a few places I haven't seen them before. There is apparently more rain comming overnight and into tomorrow as well as more rain forecast for the weekend.

The ground really needs a chance to dry out :(.

Thames Valley area SE.
5 degrees last night and sunny all morning. Overcast now 11 degrees.
Don't want it any colder.

OodlesofOods · 08/01/2014 15:05

Northern as in Scotland

OhYouBadBadKitten · 08/01/2014 15:28

Hard to define this far in advance and with this amount of uncertainty!!

BiscuitsAreMyDownfall · 08/01/2014 16:10

Anywhere from county Durham upwards will do me. I live a couple of miles south of Co. Durham so as long as it doesn't effect me going to work.

mscnile · 08/01/2014 16:24

Biscuits according to met office the 'feels like' temp on Sunday is -5 for us Shock could be a chilly week next week (and I have to go out to the wilds of n durham!)

BiscuitsAreMyDownfall · 08/01/2014 19:31

Oooh can't wait mscnile Grin

Jellykat · 08/01/2014 20:28

I can't take it anymore Sad

Am in West Wales, and i swear we haven't had a dry day for at least 4 weeks. There's so much water, everywhere, and i have had water dripping through my sitting room walls although they're 18" thick, since Christmas. Apparently Welsh slate stone is porous!
Another thing that's happening is as there's no mains drainage around here, peoples septic tanks and soakaways aren't soaking away - the grounds too waterlogged, and i've got 2 trees lying on the ground in my garden.

Every joint in my body aches from the damp, all i need is for it to get colder and my raynauds can properly kick in. Hooray!

Can you tell i've had enough? Rant over.. I know it could be worse, i could be further up the road in Cardigan or Aberystwyth.

SpottyTeacakes · 08/01/2014 20:36

Oh no jelly Sad that sounds awful

coffeeinbed · 08/01/2014 20:41

OhYouBadBadKitten · 08/01/2014 20:43

OP posts:
StillSlightlyCrumpled · 08/01/2014 20:43

Sounds awful Jelly, hope it all dries up for you & the others affected soon.

mscnile · 08/01/2014 20:45

Oh jelly that's grim Sad have a Brew to warm you up.

Any more news on the snow potential kitten? I'm travelling across north eastern parts Monday and Tuesday!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 08/01/2014 20:46

Still a lot of uncertainty as to whether the cold air will dig in properly next week, but for those of you wondering about whether you need to do cold weather preps, I'd be thinking about it.

OP posts:
OhYouBadBadKitten · 08/01/2014 20:47

not yet msc - it looks borderline to say the least but I'd say that you probably havent chosen the best part of the uk to be travelling in....

OP posts:
mscnile · 08/01/2014 20:51

Jellykat · 08/01/2014 21:04

Hows it looking for Wales and snow Kitten any idea? My mum seems to think it's coming in early Feb here Confused

TwllBach · 08/01/2014 21:22

It was such a lovely, bright clear morning here in North Wales, but then it got to about 3 o'clock (just as parents start turning up to collect children) and has tipped it down ever since

Snow sounds good for a day or two though!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 08/01/2014 21:34

Jellykat, I'd say there is potential but the models really aren't anywhere near in agreement yet.

OP posts:
Jellykat · 08/01/2014 21:37

Thanks Kitten, will get supplies in just in case.. Confused

Marne · 08/01/2014 21:39

Racing again here, hasn't been to bad all day, just light rain this afternoon, now getting heavy, have got so used to the sound of rain on my windows, I don't think I could sleep without it now Grin.

would love some snow though.
