Weather in the media

A thread to discuss the good and bad reports in the media,TV etc.

Starting with a favourite that's often good for a laugh, the front page of the Daily Express this morning.

There was also this programme Britain's Killer Storms that was on Channel 4 on Sunday. Not sure what it's like but have recorded to watch later.

They drive me bonkers! First two weeks of August show nothing of the sort as usual.

Lol ~ I thought it had been a while since we'd heard from the expert forecaster that is Mr Rao!

Someone I know had linked to that hottest August Express article on Facebook and underneath in "related links" was an old one from the Express in about October last year saying Winter 2013 would be snowmaggedon. Says it all really when not a flake of snow hit our garden this year!

The last really bad winter we had hear , it started to snow in November and we still had snow on the ground at the end of February.

I do feel a bit uneasy though, about the mild Autumn so far -it feels like nature is holding her breath waiting for something.

Once again they are being rather ridiculous. It would have to be a massively abrupt change half way through Novemeber, not impossible but unlikely - cold doesn't appear from nowhere.

This October pattern index is on the face of it quite interesting, but there is no clear mechanism to explain it, the correlation looks suspiciously high and it has yet to have been peer reviewed. So I reserve my judgement on that!

I read the last one today, then came on here to see if I could read some reason instead. They do seem fond of 'extreme weather warnings' in the media don't they! I've seen so many links on my fb feed to say we are going to be frozen in dark tombs all winter with no food or power, but then I see actual forecast reports sayings its likely to be rather average. All very confusing.

Iceland seems to have have been plunged into winter bigtime. A farmer recorded this footage of a snowstorm (I love the 'ho' at the end as she shuts the door!)
There are also winter wonderland pictures of Akureyri. Very pretty.
