Keeping a beady weather eye on Thurs 25th

Will it break down or won't it......

Some of the models are going for a potentially thunderstormy break down on the 25th. (don't fear hot weather lovers, if this happens the heat may well return after a few days).

There is a small chance of things happening sooner than that - on Monday, but I'm not convinced by the models suggesting that.

Will keep things updated here.

The pressure difference between the high pressure over us and the low pressures nearby is pretty minimal, but the high pressure slowly drifts north allowing disruptive troughs to move in, so although a breakdown is inevitable (when?) at the moment it looks like a shift to still warm weather but with rain and storms interspersed.

Feels like summer's been going on for ages. Had a really dry June, which in Scotland counted as an amazing summer Grin. And aside from some rain at the start of July it's been sunny and hot.....28.2C in Edinburgh today. More cloud action, but doesn't seem like anything will come of it. Edinburgh is supremely shite for thunder storms usually, but then it's usually shite for summers too.

Not a cloud in the sky here (south east Wales) tonight.

Today has been an absolute scorcher with very little breeze.

Schools break up tomorrow so we'd love more warm dry weather over the next 6 weeks!

It was a balmy 20° at Howletts zoo earlier today. I think we hit the giddy heights of 23 on the way home. Poor you lot further up country.

OYBBK could you please advise of what I should pack for sat 20th for a week south coast? Please? Don't want to pack all hot stuff if it'll rain/be cooler!
we all know I'll end up packing for all weathers anyway

Report
OhYouBadBadKitten · 18/07/2013 20:24

I would pack hot stuff with a cardi and a mac but not expect to use either.

Was at a meeting last night where a person had bought a giant umbrella with them. Not quite sure which forecast they were listening to!

Argh! But do I book a pitch or not? We're going near Brighton if it helps.

Disclaimer: I know you're not my personal weather guru :o

Also, I hope you're vastly recovered now, OYBBK Flowers

Have just looked at accuweather for Pembrokeshire from 27th July - 3rd August and there's a worrying amount of cloud around - sob! Don't think I can bear to have been sweltering inland for the last two weeks only to have it all evaporate just as we go away to the sea :(

Im heading to Cambridge for 10 days on the 25th .... what do you think the weather will be like on my holiday? I was hoping to get some of the hot stuff they are getting just now :(

I also have no idea what to pack for me & the kids - so far I have just shorts & tshirts, should I bung in some jeans too?

The forecast next week seems to be cloudy and sunny with a light rain shower. Every day. Confused

Report
scripsi · 19/07/2013 21:46

Any chance that it will actually make things feel cooler and not yet more humid Sparkling?

Kitten worth booking pleasure beach tickets for next Friday? It's cheaper online in advance but obviously if it's peeing down not a great idea Sad

Next week is becoming very unpredictable. However, even if it rains on occasion it's not going to be cold and miserable. I would carry on with plans with optimism packing an umbrolly and jacket but also shorts and suncream.

Sad I don't like unpredictable. I feel impending weather doom until the schools go back.

I'm afraid I'm really struggling with the forecast now! The models are switching constantly. I don't think I'll get even this week right, never mind in a weeks time.

The breakdown in the weather as everyone else here has predicted now does seem to be timed to coincide with the start of the English school holidays. However, it still doesn't look too bad for this week at least, with temps for most being very pleasant (mid 20s mid week and perhaps hotter again for a couple of days at the end of the week). The el scorchio temps seem to be vanishing. Yes, there will be some rain and storms, but not in an unpleasant grey cold day sort of way.

I'll be honest. No idea about the week of the 29th currently.

OYBBK I fear the worst, then anything else will be a bonus. Sad DS1 is off to Boulogne for the day on Monday. I daren't even look at that forecast. Can you have a little look and break it to me gently?

i can live with the absence of El Scorchio I would ideally like nice weather. Grin

Much cooler and cloudier today - thank goodness. Forecast for 23 -25 degrees and best of all a fresh breeze.
But still muggy headed from my really good night sleep on ThursdayConfused. Suppose it will time to recover as must have overdone it during the oppressive, suffocating heat? Am getting on a bit

Report
HesterShaw · 20/07/2013 11:53

I am not nearly as clever a forecaster as OYBBK, but every time I look at a forecast for here (SW Cornwall), it has changed. If the eye of the low pressure stays over us, it will be fairly still, but if it shifts just a little bit, we are going to get some strong wind. Sadly I think it's the second one.

NB I am obsessed with wind strength for operational reasons :o . Rain - not so much.
