Keeping a beady weather eye on Thurs 25th

Will it break down or won't it......

Some of the models are going for a potentially thunderstormy break down on the 25th. (don't fear hot weather lovers, if this happens the heat may well return after a few days).

There is a small chance of things happening sooner than that - on Monday, but I'm not convinced by the models suggesting that.

Will keep things updated here.

I was just looking at netweather, Kitten - they must use those models too as they are showing possible showers next Mon/Tue & then a bit cooler (hurrah!)

Their forecasts include humidity - can you please explain to me (in layman's terms Confused) why humidity is much higher at night? (over 90% at 1am but down to c 50% at 1pm?)

educatingarti · 17/07/2013 14:37

Any idea what the weather might be like in Cheshire and North Wales 28th July to 7 August? I am camping!

valiumredhead · 17/07/2013 14:41

We need a storm

AngelsWithSilverWings · 17/07/2013 14:55

Hi OYBBK Grin I'm off to Newquay on the 25th! Please please tell me that we will actually get nice weather on a UK holiday!

I'll be gutted if it rains for a week after all this lovely hot weather.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 17/07/2013 15:03

Ponders, the humidity quoted is relative humidity - how much moisture there is in the air compared to how much it can hold. As the air cools it can hold less water, so the percentage goes up.

The model netweather uses is gfs :)

I'm afraid that I wouldnt like to forecast for after the 25th as what happens after depends very much on whether this breakdown happens or not.

only next Thursday??

OhYouBadBadKitten · 17/07/2013 15:26

well saturday looks more manageable - temps dropping a few degrees.

We need an icecream emoticon.

just heard a thunderclap!! (Watford) come on... gimme some wet!!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 17/07/2013 17:43

There are 3 little teeny cells showing on the radar currently :)

OP posts:
BIWI · 17/07/2013 17:45

A bit of rain would be nice and the weather forecast for London tonight did show those three cells saying that to the North and West of London we could be in for some sharp/short thunder storms.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 17/07/2013 17:45

Interestingly one of the models is looking much more like convective weather from Monday onwards (but still hot)

WhispersOfWickedness · 17/07/2013 17:52

I am convinced that the hot sunny weather spell will end on Wednesday 24th.. This is because the schools round here break up on the 23rd HmmGrin

frownyface · 17/07/2013 18:43

in berks just had a heavy shower lasting ten mins. very humid here and occasional clap of thunder

valiumredhead · 17/07/2013 21:10

Very cloudy and temp has dropped dramatically here in Beds-feels like out will rain, ds and I have been doing a rain dance in the gardenGrin

Ponders · 17/07/2013 22:30

oh thank you, kitten, I actually understood that!

so absolute humidity would be about the same at both times? but 90% humidity during the day would feel much more unpleasant than 90% overnight?

valiumredhead · 17/07/2013 23:47

No rain ......

OhYouBadBadKitten · 18/07/2013 00:49

Exactly ponders :)

WhispersOfWickedness · 18/07/2013 10:05

Grr, I am looking after a friend's 8 and 10 year olds on the 25th, I don't want rain!! Angry

valiumredhead · 18/07/2013 15:22

Bearable here today, lovely this morning and got hot around lunch time and now it's about 26 but with a breeze!! Unbearable last night.

This is becoming my new favourite threadGrin

educatingarti · 18/07/2013 15:53

Incredibly hot and sticky here this afternoon. Cloudy but still bright-ish! Need either a quick thunderstorm or a breeze now!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 18/07/2013 15:56

:)

a few cells showing in Devon and just south of the scottish borders.
31C here at the moment. Going to have to get the hose pipe out.

Models seem to be backing away a bit from storms on Monday/tues, but I reckon there still will be some. Still excited about thursday!

27C here in East Sussex. Just come back from the beach - lovely but (truly) nigh on a Force 6 blowing which made it a bit wearying after a while. Never had such a wind in the heat before.

fatsatsuma · 18/07/2013 16:05

Thanks for your updates OYBBK - as usual in times of interesting weather, they are my first point of reference!

Somewhere up thread you referred to something like a 'thunderstormy breakdown' on Thursday/Monday. Does this mean a breakdown in the high pressure conditions, or just a temporary wet blip? I love this weather, despite the heat, and am just longing for it to last til at least the end of August! Grin
