New weather warnings, including amber ones for deep snow and blizzard like conditions tomorrow night in the north.met office here

OhYouBadBadKitten · 24/01/2013 15:58

Ok, tomorrow:

Easier to chop the UK up with this forecast!

Scotland: Snow moving in from the west from the morning onwards. However western coastal counties will probably remain as rain. Turning to sleet over lower ground later, but perhaps a fair bit of snow over the hills by the end of the day.

Wales: rain moving in from the west around lunchtime. Turning to snow over hills. Turning to rain later, especially over lower ground.

England:Early afternoon heavy snow looks set to move into the NW and the Midlands, turning to sleet or rain perhaps later. As the snow moves across England, heavy snow becomes more of a risk, especially over hilly ground. The Pennines i think will be a particular risk area for problems. The south of England I think will mostly suffer from heavy rain from this system. Later on (evening/night time) , heavy snow for the eastern side of England before it peters out,

I have discovered the met office app (my bf showed me and now wishes he hadnt Grin) and it is suggesting heavy snow for York tomorrow. I wonder if it will happen or not....

digerd · 24/01/2013 16:16

Don't want anymore in SE.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 24/01/2013 16:22

digerd, I think you will be ok :)

miranda, I think that yes, for a time you will have heavy snow.

Oohh wondering what time Manchester might start getting it, bit worried about my mum having to pick the boys up from school. Kitten please tell me we won't get it until after 3.00pm xxx

WhispersOfWickedness · 24/01/2013 16:50

Noooo, no more

MirandaWest · 24/01/2013 17:13

Thank you OYBBK. Wonder when it will melt....

MrsAFlowerpot · 24/01/2013 17:29

OYBBK - I know you'll start to become irritated by me but...

on my drive home at the start of the A1 (N London - N Herts) all boards were warning of severe weather tomorrow...have never seen this before. Any idea of why?

StillSlightlyCrumpled · 24/01/2013 17:58

I'm hoping that as the worst of it is overnight that travelling on Saturday pm might not be too bad.

Kitten you are fab doing all of this. Thank you. Smile

BehindLockNumberNine · 24/01/2013 18:14

Gutted we will miss out in Woking Sad

mumat39 · 24/01/2013 18:17

Tak1ng, did you say lots of snow in SW London? We're just outside kingston and there's been about 10 seconds of sleety stuff. Not fair. :(

mumat39 · 24/01/2013 18:20

Ignore my also post. I'm just getting all in a muddle Blush

CaroleService · 24/01/2013 18:49

AAAAAAAARGH! My 50th birthday party tomorrow night, all been arranged for months, 50 people coming, caterer, band .... in Kingston on Thames.

I'm going to have to cancel aren't I? or the caterer or the band or both will cancel and leave me with the most barren birthday party ever.

PLEASE LET THE SNOW STAY AWAY!!

StillSlightlyCrumpled · 24/01/2013 18:53

Carole I feel your pain. My 40th is on Saturday night. Hoping that it will be thawing enough for the roads to be fairly clear by then.

I hope it all goes ahead okay for you, I feel ridiculously stressed about it. Have been cursing having January birthday!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 24/01/2013 18:56

Carole, why would you need to cancel it? London counts as the south of England. You might get a bit of sleety stuff, but at the moment there's. no indication of any problem for you.

OP posts:
OhYouBadBadKitten · 24/01/2013 19:01

Ok Carole, my apologies, looking at the warnings page the met office are warning for a bit of snow for you. I don't think you need to cancel though. I suppose the worry is that if the rain comes down hard enough it may turn to snow for a bit. However, I think if you do have a problem, it's going to be more likely a problem of getting people home again.

mrsFlowerpot, further north up the a1 it certainly looks to be a real problem.

I take it I will have to postpone travelling the hour on the A1 from Scotch Corner to York on Sat then. Amber warnings Fri and Sat. As long as I can get to the supermarket and back tomorrow, that would be great.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 24/01/2013 19:33

The amber warnings as far as I can see expire at 2am on Saturday. Going to be followed by a pretty rapid warmup through the afternoon for many especially away from the east. Going to be rather an issue with melt I'd have thought. By Sunday morning away from Scotland almost all areas well and truly above zero.

LottieJenkins · 24/01/2013 19:37

I think we are due more snow here in Suffolk according to the forecasts!!!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 24/01/2013 19:43

For a time tomorrow night Lottie. But then may turn to rain on the back edge.

South Herts
Still +1 outside, but humidity is less than last night, so a dryer cold. Will check again in 2 hours to see if temp has gone down. Last time we had a clear sky in the night we had -7 and was very icy in the morning. Don't want my dancing cancelled, as teacher lives at the top of a hill in the countryside.

digerd · 24/01/2013 20:21

I really would love a "rapid warm-up" asap. We were forcast for it on Saturday, but losing hope.

digerd · 24/01/2013 20:36

Oh dear, just gone to close my curtains at the back and the sky is CLEAR as saw clearly the light from an plane flying from Heathrow which is 2 hours drive from me on M25. We were warned of a very cold night with icey roads tomorrow. looks as if it was right.
