oybbk is snowing now in north west well near wigan. that wasn't forecast for today any idea what's going on?

MumVsKids · 23/01/2013 13:14

Erm, well we have snow again. Big fat flakes and quite a lot of them in south Derbyshire Confused

The met office has not forecast this!! So it's a snow bonus for us, but what's going on OYBBK?

I'm not complaining BTW, I want as much as can fall from the sky!! Oodles of it would be great!! Grin

OhYouBadBadKitten · 23/01/2013 13:25

mumvskids, I believe its the left overs from last nights snow that it the south. Looking at the radar there are a fair few snow showers about (including here where it is too warm to add to the snow depths.)

The reason for the warm up is that his week although we've been getting fronts from the atlantic, they have been able draw in cold air from the east, giving us our snow. Now the atlantic looks to win properly bringing over mild(er) air.

met office warnings seem to be calling it as quite likely for snow on friday for many.

Then look at Sunday, heavy rain and melting snow/ice=surface flooding.

No more snow here only a tiny bit of light snow this morning

TalcAndTurnips · 23/01/2013 14:48

Not a shred of snow left here on Hants coast. It has all gone. Sad

Except for the much diminished remains of a gigantic snow cock and bollocks, constructed by university students on the campus lawn. That may be with us for several days yet.

snowflakehellokitty · 23/01/2013 16:37

Freezing here

digerd · 23/01/2013 16:58

South Herts
Still the snow hasn't all melted off the grass/pavements/ small side roads despite being + 2, but feeling like -5.

denialandpanic · 23/01/2013 18:14

Noooooooooooo! Just went out to go to leisure centre to swim and its snowing and its lying! where did that come ours was all melting and it was rainign an hour ago. don't know what to do now leisure centre closed last night when we had less than this. I'm between Guildford and farnham

mumat39 · 23/01/2013 18:14

Hi there.

Nearly all our snow has gone :(

All this talk of mild weather is making me wonder whether it will be mild as in warm or mild as in less cold? If that makes sense.

Wondering if we might get some more cold into February. Hmm

Thanks

OhYouBadBadKitten · 23/01/2013 18:22

Mild as in around 10c or thereabouts in the day time for those in the south. A bit cooler further north I think.
D&P if its any consolation I just gathered up our snow boots to put them away in the garage and stepped out into snow Grin it shouldn't amount to much though looking at the radar.

Heavy snow here covering rd and paths

mankyscotslass · 23/01/2013 19:35

Nothing else since the start of the week in Manchester, and most of what was there has gone. Sad

Just got the train to Glasgow, the scenery in the Lake District and the south of Scotland was spectacular - a real winter wonderland! But there is nothing in Glasgow on or the banks of the Clyde where I am for the next few days.

digerd · 23/01/2013 19:37

South Herts
+2 still here, and can't wait for +10, which surely will get rid of the last of the snow/ice. But don't expect sunshine at this time of year with 10c. Can but hope though? Air felt bitterly cold today here - was that from the East?

denialandpanic · 23/01/2013 20:21

Well I went anyway and my swim was lovely. Roads in village were covered in snow but main road fine. OYBBK I actually came back in and checked radar before I went Wink

snowflakehellokitty · 23/01/2013 21:01

Hv another inch rd and paths covered

mumat39 · 24/01/2013 00:07

Thanks OYBBK

StillSlightlyCrumpled · 24/01/2013 06:41

OYBBK the met office shows snow here tomorrow evening turning into sleet & rain into the early hours of Saturday. Would you agree with that? We are in S Leics and I am very concerned about the party I have booked for Saturday night.

Thank you in advance. Smile

MegBusset · 24/01/2013 07:33

OYBBK apparently we may get snow on Friday (Norfolk), please say it ain't so!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 24/01/2013 07:49

Sorry, bit tight for time this morning, I ll do a proper update on tomorrow's weather late afternoon. It's hideously tricky but east Anglia and the east coast do seem to be the ones who are most likely to end up with snow, the SW with rain, Scotland snow for a time. Goodness knows for the rest of us!

OP posts:
DamnDeDoubtance · 24/01/2013 09:04

We had another sprinkling last night which has made the paths icy.

TheDoctrineOfSnatch · 24/01/2013 09:42

OYBBK, would you mind posting a thread on Science and Nature Club sometime about how your models work etc?

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/science_and_nature_club

Thanks in advance...

TobyLerone · 24/01/2013 10:42

It is snizzling here.

snowflakehellokitty · 24/01/2013 12:40

No more snow here off rds very icy weather brrrr

digerd · 24/01/2013 15:20

South Herts
No more snow, but icy still on side roads and snow still on the grass. Still + 2 and sky bright, but no sun.
Forecast is to be very cold in the night < want it thick cloud at night to keep mild and sun during the day, please> and very icy in the morning.
Saturday should now be better and milder. ??
