snowing here in west berks

givemushypeasachance · 22/01/2013 17:51

It's sleet/snowing quite energetically in Bristol but not 'pitching' much on the wet ground - though out of the centre the pavements are quite icy in places still. My dug-out yaktrax helped me to get to the main road better this morning though I then had a 30min wait for a packed bus on one of the major routes into town. All good fun! (roll on spring...)

pepperrabbit · 22/01/2013 17:51

Oh FGS. I collected DS1 at 4.25 to a little sleety iritating stuff. Opened the door at 5pm and it's snowing hard, the car's already covered and it's settling on the road... nooooooooooo.

I have so much to do tomorrow, all precision timed and none on foot [cross] [cross]
I've spent 2 days tarting around doing remarkably little and now this.
And breathe... (and I'm losing my voice)
NE Hants btw

OhYouBadBadKitten · 22/01/2013 17:56

behindlock there might be enough for a snow day. Looks like this will continue for a few hours, getting lighter in the early hours.

AFingerofFudge · 22/01/2013 18:05

travellingwilbury · 22/01/2013 18:06

Snowing in west Sussex !

Any chance of a snow day tomorrow kitten ?

Tortoise · 22/01/2013 18:07

It's still not settling here in Somerset. Please tell me it will?

BehindLockNumberNine · 22/01/2013 18:20

Thank you oybbk Grin

I know that our deputy head was looking at the weather forecast as dd (he is her class teacher) came out of school telling me it was going to snow. I told her not to be so daft Grin
Needless to say I have had a big "I told you so" of her!!

Am keeping everything crossed for an unexpected day off. (although knowing our head and deputy we will be going into school, no matter what...)

Lifeisontheup · 22/01/2013 18:24

Snowing heavily here in North Hampshire. Not at work tomorrow and DS has only one lesson. Dh can look after himself. Smile

mumat39 · 22/01/2013 18:25

Started snowing lightly here too. Grin

digerd · 22/01/2013 18:25

South Herts
No snow yet today and been melting again with +3 since lunchtime, and now +2. Still lots on the grass, but gone off trees and bushes. Lots of uncleared pavements in Luton today.

mumat39 · 22/01/2013 18:33

Pigley, hope you're feeling less sore soon. Take care tomorrow. xxx

lubeybooby · 22/01/2013 18:37

Oooh please can I have some more snow? OYBBK is it going to reach sw leicestershire? Please please?

I tried to make my snow cat today but failed miserably. Snow just too powdery and wouldn't stick. I reaalllly want more! :o

PestoFrostissimos · 22/01/2013 18:39

Blizzarding here, high on the Downs near Brighton. T'is strange coz it was all melting today and then it started raining this afternoon and I was steeling myself for a right soaking when I had to go out & do the ponies after school. Only by the time we set off it was snowing heavily and was a complete white-out up at the yard Shock

The big question is, will the school be open tomorrow? (I know the buses have already stopped running up here)

TheSkiingGardener · 22/01/2013 18:47

Raining heavily by the sea in Southampton. It's actually now washed most of the rest of the snow away.

Oh well, we had fun while it lasted and if more arrives we'll have even more fun with it!

fatsatsuma · 22/01/2013 18:52

Thanks OYBBK. Looking at the TWO radar which I've discovered today, it looks like we are totally under the precipitation band - but nothing is reaching the ground. Will be interesting to see what develops. Exciting to hear you've got lots coming down Smile
Thanks for all your words of wisdom.

Mrcrumpswife · 22/01/2013 18:53

Tortoise the whole town here is white and i know Yeovil is aswell. We've had over 2 inches already and its chaos in the town because the non existent gritters are doing the usual invisible act! Its still absolutely pouring down with snow here.

Lifeisontheup · 22/01/2013 18:57

Isn't it exciting pepper You're just up the road from me, I'm in Farnborough.

StillSlightlyCrumpled · 22/01/2013 19:03

Wow, the forecasts change so quickly! I've been keeping an eye on the met office one, it looks like the temperature will rise quickly on Saturday here (east mids).
Hoping any snow we get won't keep the children away from school. Looks like its going to mostly be sleet.

OYBBK, thank you for this thread Smile again. I don't know why but I've never looked at the met office forecasts before! It's certainly been the most accurate for us.

Hope everyone home safely where there is lots of snow.

Tortoise · 22/01/2013 19:07

It has started to settle. The road outside my house is bad now.

mama2moo · 22/01/2013 19:08

It has been snowing since 2pm in South Somerset. We now have about 3 inches maybe more.

This was not forecast!!!

TalcAndTurnips · 22/01/2013 19:09

What a difference a few miles make!

Hampshire coast - not a shred of snow left and fairly persistent drizzle/rain.

This morning (and yesterday) the pavements were completely clear and dry; no frost or even condensation on car windscreens. An extraordinary contrast with what we are seeing on television.
