My 2-hour dance class tomorrow has been cancelled < very sad face>.

pigleychez · 22/01/2013 10:57

Super icy here in West Sussex here today.

Girls are at School/Nursery so went out with my camera to the woods.
Was beautiful walking around the woody snowy lake.... Until I fell on my bum! Blush Right in front of a group of gathering ramblers! Must of looked a right tit! Was wearing my snowboots with decent grip so not like the school run mum this morning in her stiletto boots! (4 inches of snow and ice!)

LillethTheCat · 22/01/2013 11:14

I didn't think it was meant to snow today, but it is. According to Met Office its going to snow all day, but thats it for us apparently. Well I hope it is.

digerd · 22/01/2013 11:15

How can anyone drive in high heels?
I walked in stilettos < teetered, I mean> when I was 18 for 3 months in the ice and snow. That was decades ago, though.

snowflakehellokitty · 22/01/2013 11:16

Morning Wink
Its freezing here ! Cold wind

digerd · 22/01/2013 11:18

South Herts
Sky really bright now, but still no sun or more snow

snowflakehellokitty · 22/01/2013 11:24

Just checked bbc instead of overnite snow is starting at 6pm as heavy snow till 8pm then light snow till 10pm

digerd · 22/01/2013 11:31

I just don't want the skies clearing again tonight, rather have snow than -7 and iced up.

digerd · 22/01/2013 11:33

Green waste not collected, but bin doesn't have much in it as not been gardening !

AngryFeet · 22/01/2013 11:45

OYBBK please tell my temps will rise soon? House going on the market in 2 weeks and having the photos done next Friday (1st Feb) so need it to all be gone by then! I am in Croydon.

AngryFeet · 22/01/2013 11:45

Please tell me I mean Blush

pepperrabbit · 22/01/2013 12:14

Pavements lethal here too, just took DD to pre-school and the little alleys are like ice rinks. This morning people had to hold onto the railings and inch across some sections Hmm.
The ridiculous thing is the roads are safer than the paths - and today is the start of the schools great "walk to school" campaign, they were handing out badges at the school gate Confused.
I'm really really hoping the balmy 5 degrees forecast for Fri will melt it all and I don't break a limb before then!

CarrieDon · 22/01/2013 12:38

Oh, yes, I was walking down to where we have parked our car (because if we had it on our driveway we'd be stranded) and I walked in the road rather than on the sheet ice pavements. Thankfully only a couple of cars to step aside for.

More snow due here this afternoon - am twitching the curtains hoping it delays until after the school run.

MrsAFlowerpot · 22/01/2013 12:39

Hi OYBBK it looks like snow is forecast overnight in North London - what do you think oh wise one??

TheSilveryTinsellyPussycat · 22/01/2013 12:43

Twas a lot safer in the olden days when people had coal fires and therefore a plentiful supply of ash to put on the pavements.

Cold and sunny here in Co Durham, roads clear but our estate is not! And it's on a slope - was talking to a neighbour this morning and people can't park on their sloping driveways as cars slip off. Talking of driveways, will have to clear mine for a visitor, not planning on driving myself, car safely tucked up in garage.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 22/01/2013 13:02

MrsFlowerpot, you may see a little light snow :)
Am a bit chuffed with this forecast Grin as I called it as a possibility on Sunday for my area and the SW and the met office took ages to agree with me Grin makes up for all the times I get it wrong

updated warnings

anyway, it does look like there will be snow for parts the SW and central southern England away from the coast this evening, with light snow spreading into the London area and Kent too.

Angryfeet - milder, but wet quite likely with it.

Tortoise · 22/01/2013 13:16

Raining in my area of Somerset Sad
I want more snow!

brodyboo · 22/01/2013 13:29

Thanks OYBBK, hope so, it hasn't stopped all day, even the landy is going to struggle soon:-)

educatingarti · 22/01/2013 13:30

I don't get our weather warning map for the NW of England. We had a yellow ice warning overlapped by little bits of of a yellow snow warning ( OK, I Get that) but underlying it seems to be a paler yellow (which is also a yellow ice warning?)
Why 2 layers of yellow ice warning -or have I misunderstood it?

snowflakehellokitty · 22/01/2013 13:35

Snowing light here

awaywego1 · 22/01/2013 13:48

Bright and sunny here in sheffield-snow melting fast. Confused by met office-seems light snow may be a possibility later and tommorow.

Tortoise · 22/01/2013 14:15

Quite a bit of snow mixed in with the rain now Smile Grin . Forecast earlier looked good for snow over night.

fatsatsuma · 22/01/2013 14:23

I think I'm going to wear out the Met Office 5 day forecast page for my area! I so much want just a little bit more snow before it all disappears on Friday Grin Here in N Oxon the forecast for the next 24 hours keeps changing - one minute I have hope for a bit of snow tonight and tomorrow, the next minute I refresh the page and it's gone!

AFingerofFudge · 22/01/2013 14:36

Hi OYBBK Thanks soooo much for this wonderfully addictive thread - have been hanging on your every word and have been mightily impressed with you weather watching!
Now - any ideas exactly how much Gloucestershire is likely to see this evening? Smile
