Sad Oh no! I really hope it isn't as heavy as the weekend that has just been. Have major birthday plans with friends/ family travelling a long way from East Anglia, Somerset & Kent to us in the East Midlands.
I knew I shouldn't have booked a party!

Fingers crossed it isn't too disruptive .

pepperrabbit · 21/01/2013 19:08

chipping - I was rocking a "full make up and hiking boots" look earlier, I had to slide and inch pathetically go up to the High Street to get my new passport photo done Grin
Met office has us in the snow & ice weather warning for the whole of tues with fog for the school run. Hmm

Well Im hoping for a snow free sat anyway.

mumat39 · 21/01/2013 20:04

Hi kitten.

Hope you've had a good day and that your DH arrived safely into London. Hope he gets back ok too.

I saw puddles for the first time today on more than a week, the melt has definitely started here. Fingers crossed for some dry weather, during the 'mild' in betweeny bit. And fingers crossed for some more snow in February.

Xxx

Banderchang · 21/01/2013 20:07

Still lots of snow up here in the north-east: it is really blizzarding tonight. Lots of us digging out our cars and trying to clear driveways when the snow is falling faster than we can dig! Very frustrating. Any idea when the snow will move away from Co Durham, OYBBK? Would be nice to hope it's not this bad for too much longer!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 21/01/2013 20:27

Looks like it is going to wax and wane over night tonight right until tomorrow afternoon banderchang.

My house is still too near the Firth of Forth......North Edinburgh is the place to be if you like sideyways sleet.......still in the huff........

MrsAFlowerpot · 21/01/2013 22:18

I want a snow day. Not fair Envy

OhYouBadBadKitten · 21/01/2013 22:33

Love saying Firth of Forth!

Snowing again here now............I let Bumbledog out for his "pre-bed wee!" and he gave the most enormous WOOF at some poor fecker walking his dog in our almost pitch black road!! Bumble was told in no uncertain terms to get his hairy arse into the house pronto!!!!

LemonMousse · 21/01/2013 23:02

It's stopped here for now (Co. Durham) but starting to freeze. Buses haven't run up to our village all day and school is closed again tomorrow. Unusual for us really because we do just tend to battle on regardless here - gritters and ploughs out in force but I live on a main road and that's white again now!

DH walked to work and back (about 3 miles) which he often does anyway but he was knackered tonight after ploughing through deep snow - he daren't walk on the roads as he said the cars were skidding everywhere. he went to bed at 8.30 Grin

leesmum · 21/01/2013 23:37

we've had a lovely day here in north Manchester....just enough snow for the Ds's to finish school early, get home and make a snowman and have a snowball fight with half the street...if this is all the snow we get then im happy with that, thanks KITTEN for all your updates and all the time you've given to reassuring people who have had long journeys to make Thanks Wine Chocolate....why is there no chocolate emotion???

InMySpareTime · 22/01/2013 07:15

We had magic snow in Trafford; lovely white covering to wake up to, squeaky snow to walk in (great for snowballs), floating beautifully on the school run.
During the school day it all melted away, leaving nice clear pavements free of iceSmile. Now that's the snow I ordered, all the prettiness, none of the treacherous black iceGrin.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 22/01/2013 07:30

You are really welcome leesmum :)

The snow today in the sw is really tricky. For many it will be rain rather than snow. I think best chances for the sw are away from Cornwall and the south coast.

Tonight central southern England could see some snow, quite gratifying that the met office have now picked up on that risk.

IMST, that's what we need here. I thinking ill be skating to work this morning. Some of it melted but to leave a nice wet coating ready for the -5 we ended up with.

South Herts
I did notice that, although it was milder and snow was melting yesterday, that at 9.30pm last night, the skies were clearing - oh no, we were warned of dangerous ice today. .
Got up this morning at 6.30 and it had been minus 7 in the night - the coldest night so far.
Risen to -3 now.
DD has a hospital appt < recall after mammogram> at 2pm and has to go into work this morning. Coming back to pick me up and go to hospital with her. But picking me up at the side road as my cul-de-sac is too dangerous.
I still have to walk across an uncleared side road and uncleared footpath at the end of my road. Wish I'd ordered those shoe/ice spikes now
Hope my good old german boots keep me from slipping.
Wonder if the bins are going to be collected here this morning?

digerd · 22/01/2013 07:39

Just pulled the blind up, and skies all grey now.

Still snowing here in North Yorkshire but very fine flakes blowing around rather than settling. Main roads are all clear it's just getting to the main road that's fun.

Not really sure what the forecast is for us as BBC breakfast have just said no snow but ITV and Metcheck are saying snow on and off all day Confused

Both boys' schools are open this morning (much to DS2's disappointment) but if the snow continues I'm not sure if they will close early.

digerd · 22/01/2013 08:28

The bin collection are an hour late. Doubt if they will risk their lorry in our narrow cul-de -sac. Temp risen to -2 now. Newspaper was delivered, and finished my 2 crosswords in record time this morning < smile>

brodyboo · 22/01/2013 08:39

I live on a hill, just beside the highest village in NE fife.
We currently have about 20-30 cm of snow with drifts right across our road of 3-4 ft!! Thank god for our landrover, ploughed through it this morning when I went to do horses.

As far as I can make out we can expect snow until Sat Sad Would you agree OYBBK? Thanks

digerd · 22/01/2013 08:45

Well, bins have been collected by a special small truck just now. Heard the sounds of tyres CRUNCHING on the frozen snow . He reversed and turned round with ease. Special tyres I reckon.
In Germany it was law < as we always had months of freezing weather> to put winter tyres on your car. Which my DH always did for safety, and to avoid any harsh fine.
