snowflakehellokitty · 21/01/2013 10:40

Bbc weather said last nite snow here in the day has now changed to no snow

TheSilveryTinsellyPussycat · 21/01/2013 10:46

Snow west of Durham - at last!

ChickensHaveNoEyebrows · 21/01/2013 10:48

Still snowing here The snow is falling from the roofs now with satisfying whumps.

MumVsKids · 21/01/2013 10:52

Chickens we still have it too hardly surprising as i'm only a few miles down the road from you! my pram is not snow friendly either!! School run took ages!

digerd · 21/01/2013 11:04

South Herts
No more snow and temp gone up to +2. Little dog loved bunny jumping in the deep snow, but got snow balls covering her legs and chest, and suddenly couldn't walk anymore, so I had to carry her home - only 6 Kilos, but fine back in the house, where I had to brush all the snowballs out of her fur. No fun for me.

Starshaped · 21/01/2013 11:05

The very fine snow we've been having in Manchester seems to be stopping and the sun is peeking out Shock

ChickensHaveNoEyebrows · 21/01/2013 11:07

MumVsKids, the schools closed here. The council, in their wisdom, decided not to grit anything other than the main route through town.

MrsAFlowerpot · 21/01/2013 11:08

Every other school in my school's area (N London) has a snow day. My school doesn't Sad I wouldn't mind so much but I live so far away and my journey was HORRENDOUS. No traffic though. The main roads were fine, but the side roads and roads around school are nightmare-ish.

OYBBK there is differing amounts of snow forecast for N London and Herts this afternoon...are we likely to get any?? DD has a snow day, which is lovely, but why can't I??????

mankyscotslass · 21/01/2013 11:16

We have some hazy sunshine in Manchester!

Over all we have had about 1.5 cm of snow here - not a lot in comparison to other places, but we finally got some snow!

mumat39 · 21/01/2013 11:24

Hello everyone.

We had snow/rain forecast for Tuesday but no have no snow, according to the bbc and met office. Met check says we have light snow tomorrow.

Very confusing.

pigleychez · 21/01/2013 11:43

It snowed here in west sussex from 8.30 till about 6pm, Started off quite light but picked up as the day went on.
Have about 4inches now.

DD's school was open this morning- Boo! Was hoping for a snow day with the girls.
Some of the parents mentioned more snow today and more is forecast for this afternoon!

Dug out the car and cleared the drive and ventured out.Main roads were fine but our road was like a skating rink! Survived but our shopping trip was rather unsucessful in getting what we wanted.

duchesse · 21/01/2013 11:43

East Devon (at least our little patch of it) has been utterly snow-free since Friday lunchtime. Thankfully we went up to North Devon for the weekend and saw some serious driftage and snow banks. :) Still had a green soggy garden when we got back though...

LottieJenkins · 21/01/2013 12:31

Ive just cancelled my hospital appointment for tomorrow.........Sad Mum was going to drive but i didnt want her to risk it!
It means i have to wait till March with toothache but they wanted me in at 9 which would mean leaving here 26 miles away at 8am!

LemonMousse · 21/01/2013 12:40

Mountains of it now in Co. Durham - all our local schools closed which has pleased the DC.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 21/01/2013 12:54

Hello OYBBK. Worcestershire calling. Smile Both DSs schools open, although side roads and pavements are treacherous. Sad

There is definitely melting happening which surprises me. Confused

IwishIwasmoreorganised · 21/01/2013 13:20

Plenty of snow in the French alps!

Any idea how things are looking at the end of this week? We're hoping that flying home might be less traumatic then flying out!

LillethTheCat · 21/01/2013 13:28

Been snowing all day in North Yorkshire today. Very light snow though, but it has been enough to close school and cancel my course tonight. The road looks fine to drive on though, but I do live on a main road.

Im hoping it will be better tomorrow as we have carpet shopping to do tomorrow.

givemushypeasachance · 21/01/2013 13:55

We had about 4-6 inches of snow in the 'burbs of Bristol on Friday, which people ran out and merrily played in. But probably less than a quarter of people bothered to clear the pavements or roads in front of their houses and now it's all trampled on and is several inches of compacted ice. Brilliant for walking on. (Disclaimer - I swept and gritted a path down the slope in my cul de sac on Friday and then broke up ice on a wider path on Saturday, so my neighbourly conscience is clear.)

The main through-roads are clear and gritted but getting to them involves ice-rink slipping challenges; I cycle to work so pushed my bike to the closest main road trying to stick to the clear spots and crunchy areas where possible. Several areas of sheet ice had to be crossed though and everywhere around here is a hill of some kind; my bike slipped over twice and I almost went over several times after it. Once at the main road I could cycle well-over in the middle of the round with the traffic to avoid the edge slush and that was fine, but it was still a nightmare and the whole journey took more than twice as long as usual. Not looking forward to the reverse journey in the dark later. Sad

awaywego1 · 21/01/2013 14:19

OYBBK any predictions for sheffield tonight or tommorow? Still snowing very lightly at the minute, things getting a bit more slushy.

ChippingInNeedsSleepAndCoffee · 21/01/2013 14:57

Pepper - how did DH get on this morning? Fortunately I drive to work and it's only 8 miles, so not too bad. Looks lovely at the park right now, it's still all full of snow and the sun is shining on it, very pretty :)

Caesar - what school in their right mind re-assesses at 11am? It's not worth it! By the time they get in (12 at the earliest) then have lunch, it's practically time to go home!

MaryZ - well, you know, 1/2cm - could be life and death wading through that!!

Grin

Meg - that was late! I'd imagine a lot of people would be on their way to school by then - spoils a good snow day when you have to get the tribe up and ready anyway doesn't it!!

Mushy - please be careful, it might be best to walk most of it - a slog granted, but a lot better than falling off and ending up under someones wheels.

Congratulations, condolances & commiserations for everyone else! Brew Wine

BehindLockNumberNine · 21/01/2013 15:01

Disappointed of Surrey here. It was supposed to snow again this afternoon but instead we have bright blue skies, sunshine and major melting happening Sad

oybbk please tell me if we are due to get some more snow? We have not yet had a snowday and I do so want one...
