Perhaps some snow for southern England.

Maybe some snow for some of southern England and east Anglia in the early hours tomorrow. It is marginal and many will see rain instead, but I think that the chilterns may see some and perhaps the higher part of the Downs as well. Could be a messy mix, so don't get too excited!

Oh dear. I am so torn, I absolutely adore it BUT I've now got to get the car back down the drive, without crashing into the road, I've got to go back out there with my SPD and try and ICE the drive (our shared drive - neighbours never ever bother, it's always me with the shovel) and we're out of cat food, and I'm just knackered.

not ice it. Grit it, and salt it.

Can't even think properly!

Ours is melting, roads are clearing and the sun is out.
Dh to work, ds1 to sch but so far I'm stuck at home with other 2 DCs and no hold care so no Christmas lunch out as planned Sad

Good idea Ruby...thankyou. I have rice, no tuna, in fact no anything much but she occasionally has rapidly defrosted fish fingers when we forget!!

We had a lovely little flurry in my part of Kent :) Went on for a couple of hours, quite enthusiastically at times, but didn't really settle. I miss it now it's stopped!

This was an occluded front, where a cold front overtakes a warm front. This gives an interesting profile to the temperature versus altitude. Bit hectic at the moment, can explain more later if people want.

It was marginal purely because the temps were marginal. Quite often though, when it is close something called evaporative cooling can take place. As moisture falls through a layer of cool dry air some of it evaporates. This takes energy and the energy comes from the heat in the air, so it cools the air further. Heavy rain can cool it enough that then the moisture remains as snow and falls all the way to the ground as snow. It can be hard to predict this effect.

Hope I made sense, can take questions this evening!

Well we had about an hour or so of proper snow at 9ish in my part of Kent, it melted on contact with the ground and had all disappeared by 10.30. No problems on the roads here, all as normal.

Same here, Pascha. I'm sure we've discovered before that we live close to each other. DP's train was delayed 'indefinitely' this morning, so he had to work from home Hmm

I think we must do Toby. Within 10-20 miles or so I would guess.

Bucks had a light dusting of snow this morning and it sleeted on us as we walked to school. The paths were very slippy, but it has been sunny since and the only snow now left is in shade.

A mile from our house, there wasn't any snow at all.

We still have a snowy garden and lots of it about but the roads are all just wet and slushy now, thankfully.

Well, no more snow since early this morning, and at 9.15am, I was wending my way in wet snow in my small cul-de-sac which was slush on the mainroad pavements, in my non slip 13 year-old german boots. I was OK but young girl I met, who was wearing trainer type soles bootees, slipped several times.
Loads of traffic hardly moving on the road.
Got to dance hall safely, but only a handful there - others arrived later as hindered by traffic jams. Then soon the sun came out.
Dark now and still not melted in my road, and have to walk to physio tomorrow < scared face>Still +2 out - please cloud over in the night!!!!

Hope no more for south Essex, this morning really caused too much chaos.

Looked beautiful until anyone tried to go anywhere Hmm

Friend put on FB last night, 1 inch tomorrow & he was right. He's just put 'snow all night' on FB, he's wrong isn't he? BBC didn't say snow just now on the tv.

Forecast for London is very cold with a hard frost (yellow warnings of ice from the Met) but dry. I don't think we'll see any more snow here until next week, if at all.

Getting milder by day over the weekend, but don't get complacent, it looks to cool down again. Next real chance of snow in this region looks to be towards the back of next week I think.
