Marking my place... I'll be backkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk

Whitamakafullo · 14/10/2012 10:27

The winter of 2010 was awful! I couldn't get to work for days, the schools were shut for a week, snow was up to my waist almost....

Last winter I was all prepared for it with spades and shovels in my car, but not a drop fell! Grin

Indith · 14/10/2012 10:28

I looooove the snow. Sorry SPB!

Last winter was boring and I the dcs were gutted because there wasn't enough snow for sledging. Dd has been banging on all year about buiding snowmen.

It is only a few weeks, during those 2 snowy winters we kept the car on the main road, wrapped up warm and dragged the dcs around on the sledge instead of trying to get the pushchair out. I loved it.

The downside was our unreliable stove that was out to kill us and kept breaking so we did a fair bit of those winters with no heating so I went round to spb's house and she fed me hot chocolate and then ds1 had a tantrum going home and I dropped him in a snowdrift when he fell off my shoulders.

But now we have a lovely new stove so I want snow this winter! Lots of it.

I rather like this autumn though. Nice crisp mornings followed by glorious sunny days. Tis lovely.

Thanks MNHQ

ahem Indith, I distictly remember a text from you that talked about "evil white stuff"
It stuck in my mind because that's how I've thought of it ever since!

In fairness I'm happier for it to be snowy this year than last - I'd just started a new job in December last year and would have felt awkward saying I couldn't come in. This year I feel I as though I've proved my worth a bit and they'll believe me if I say I can't come in.

Sparkling son is a bank manager, they are still told to go to their local branch!

Sparklingbrook · 14/10/2012 10:47

Really Dawn? It's quite funny because unless you work in a branch usually you would be neither use nor ornament. Grin

Indith · 14/10/2012 10:55
Grin

Well it is distinctly possible that it annoyed me at times.

I missed it last year though. proper snow feels like proper winter. Though we are due to go down to my mum's for christmas so if it can wait til january that would be great. It is only good when you don't really have to go anywhere.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 14/10/2012 10:55

That sledge is cute. And it would save incidents happening like the time when dd was tiny and unbeknownst to me fell asleep when I was pulling her home on the sledge. I suddenly felt the sledge go light, looked round and there was dd fast asleep lying in the middle of the main road Shock

SeveredEdMcDunnough · 14/10/2012 10:58

Lol (sorry) Blush That's got to be something we've all felt! A lightened sledge!

Hope dd was Ok.

I was eyeing up these metal ones last year but couldn't do it as they were all £75 - and then this one was reduced to 50 and well I just did it. Blush

I think they will have to take turns, ds1 is 9 so might be too heavy - but babykins is due in January and ds2 is 5 so should be good for those two anyway.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 14/10/2012 11:02

Dd was fine :) thank goodness!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 14/10/2012 11:03

I reckon that sledge will have a good resale value if you don't get much chance to use it.

SeveredEdMcDunnough · 14/10/2012 11:08

Hope so kitten - wondered if I might have to sell it back to someone in Poland!!!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 14/10/2012 11:16

I reckon that it's a product that could catch on here, if it snowed properly again.

Indith · 14/10/2012 11:29

I want Lidl to do their brilliant snowboots for kids again this year, I'm sure it was around this time last year. Thick wellies (so waterproof for our british sludge unlike most snow boots), good tread with insulated soles and lovely wooly removable liners. Dd still wears hers ithout the liner for wellies but they are too small with liner. Warm boots are needed snow or no snow when it is cold, we might not have had snow last winter but we had some very, very cold weather.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 14/10/2012 11:43

Dd needs some new snow boots, so that's handy to know!

LadyFlumpalot · 14/10/2012 11:47

Indith ours has had them already, bought DS a pair.

BeyondLimitsOfTheLivingDead · 14/10/2012 11:50

Doh, there was me wondering how I'd get the pushchair out in snow/should I use a sling and risk falling over (plus DS2 is not a light child anyway), why did a sledge not occur to me!? Grin
The 2010 winter, DS1 was still new, so we were basically housebound for the winter! (I dont drive). That will not happen again!!!!!!

Indith · 14/10/2012 11:54

Oh no Lady! That means we probably didn't have them, I doubt we missed them we are in there twice a week. Unless dh did the shop that week :(

Oh well I'm looking at long term options at the moment- alpaca welly socks that are one size so will fit for years and child sized yaktrax, again will fit for years over whatever wellies they have. Could be expensive this year but since there is always some ice even if we don't have a harsh winter probably cheaper than buying snow boots each year.

SHRIIIEEEKPoolingBearBlood · 14/10/2012 12:07

I'm going to Lidl (Meadowfield) next weekend so I'll look in there. If they do I'll text you.

Sparkling ds agrees with you! Apparently the idea is to cover those that can't get there, but he says it's pretty rare, and if the people with keys can't get there, you're up the creek anyway!

Indith · 14/10/2012 13:22

SPB thanks :). I doubt you'd see anything we don't though, in Arnison one yesterday and Meadowfield at least once a week usually twice. I keep an eye on the website too. Ah well I expect we either didn't get them as it does vary from shop to shop or it was during a week when dh did a 5 min mad dash on the way home from rowing.

Jakadaal · 14/10/2012 13:37

Snow?! really - thank god for that. I insisted on changing my car for 4X4 last year as we were snowed in for weeks the the year before. Did we get any snow last winter? not one snowflake and don't think I can bear hearing DH gloat 'oh that car is sooooooooo good in the snow' Angry

JollyJackOLantern · 14/10/2012 15:16

We had hail today.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 14/10/2012 18:28

I've created a thread for the potential for interesting weather mid week. Probably wont happen, but it may......

OhYouBadBadKitten · 18/10/2012 07:48

One of the models is showing it rather colder at the end of next week Wink
