Dh works in LE1 and phoned to warn me of 2cm hailstones and a 'virtual tornado' .He told me to be careful if I went out.I'm in LE14 and have had a torrential thunder/hailstorm and grumbles of thunder here. The sky went the weirdest colour I've ever seen and so dark that I had to put the lights on.No the power is back on I'll keep you posted.

Ohyoubadbadkitten · 28/06/2012 14:20

What did he mean by a virtual tornado mirage? There are reports of damage that are tentatively suggestive of a tornado and that is one of things that torro needs to gather information on.

Sorry, power keeps outing here. We've just had the worst storm I've ever seen, torrents of rain, high winds, thunder and lightening plus 2cm hailstones.

Dh said that he couldn't see in front of him,the wind and rain were so bad. Here it is raining and thundering a little bit now, must be moving away.OYBBK,I'll pm you.

Ohyoubadbadkitten · 28/06/2012 14:52

Thanks mirage, that does sound both very frightening and interesting. I hope it calms down properly soon.

Still as anything now.I've seen some bad storms in the US,but this was the worst I've ever seen.

That picture on your link,of the sky over the clock tower, with tendrils of cloud coming down gave me the shivers.

DD1 is on an outward bound holiday with the school and they are in Shropshire, thankfully we've had a text to say that they are on high ground and not flooded.

Ohyoubadbadkitten · 28/06/2012 15:12

That is good news mirage.
These storms would be categorised as severe in the states.

BadDayAyTheOrifice · 28/06/2012 15:26

I'm seeing lots of reports (via facebook) of localised flooding, huge hail stones, damaged cars etc. Sun shining gloriously now.

Ohyoubadbadkitten · 28/06/2012 15:29

Thanks badday, it has certainly been an impressive set of storms so far today.
Torro have a fb page, so if you felt obliging, if you 'liked' it perhaps your fb friends could then post to torro if they fancied it.

One of the worst storms I've ever seen over leicester

Ohyoubadbadkitten · 28/06/2012 15:46

Usual, i think that this is one that is going to be remembered for a long time. What was it like for you?

UnChartered · 28/06/2012 15:48
Shock

just back from Leicester City centre and managed to miss this travelled south and it was chasing us all the way

all we saw from the pub car window in Great Glen was some clouds the colour of slate and a itty bit of rain

usualsuspect · 28/06/2012 15:48

I've never seen rain like it, all the drains were floodingn biggest hailstones I have ever seen too

Ohyoubadbadkitten · 28/06/2012 15:51

Unchartered they were moving NE, but it was a rather large storm system!
It's funny how close you can be to these things and miss out on all the action.
Usual, it's sounds spectacular. Do you think you'd be able to estimate the hail size?

PickleSarnie · 28/06/2012 15:54

Storms?! I'm in Market Harborough and not noticed anything. Although its been unbelievably humid all day that I've been wishing for thunder all morning to clear the air. Perhaps I should be careful what I wish for?!

Ohyoubadbadkitten · 28/06/2012 15:57

I think so pickle. Some of your county have been having a rather exciting time of it!

It went dark around 2pm (postcode LE13). I looked out of DD's window (good view across whole of town) and it was like looking at a wall of water moving towards me from other side of town. It was really, really bad just here, but at least I live on a hill and unlikely to flood.

Neighbours arial looks damaged. 1 inch hailstones and I was worried the greenhouse would be damaged.

DS's class (Y3) had walked to the museum at lunchtime, and of course could not be expected to walk back in this torrential rain, so some came back in cars, and remainder, including DS, walked back late once rained had passed. So he was a half hour late getting home, but I think the excitement means he doesn't mind.Grin

usualsuspect · 28/06/2012 16:07

I've seen pictures of some as big as golf balls, at least marble size were the ones I saw.

Badvoc · 28/06/2012 16:12

DE74 - skies so dark I had to put all the lights on at 11 am! Thunder, lightening, torrential rain, but warm...?...

Ohyoubadbadkitten · 28/06/2012 16:27

Badvoc, the airmass associated with this came up from southern europe.

Thanks usual :) marble sized is nothing to sniff at.

Darts again, what was the wind like?

Badvoc · 28/06/2012 16:30

Ah....
Very very odd weather here....

Elkieb · 28/06/2012 16:34

It was all a bit dramatic, it went really dark and the street lights came on at 1.30! Lots of rain and hail. Glad to be having a day at home today.

Babylon1 · 28/06/2012 16:34

Same at DE72 badvoc Confused

Weird weather!!

Elkieb · 28/06/2012 16:44

Oh, and massive bolts of lightening and cracks of thunder. Felt like my house was in it. All very exciting as I love this kind of weather!

usualsuspect · 28/06/2012 16:45

Skies darkening again
