usualsuspect · 28/06/2012 21:26

His friend is staying here tonight, think they are allowed to stay there but they have no electricity or anything.

Ohyoubadbadkitten · 28/06/2012 21:32

Usual- your poor poor friend :(

Blimey Gloria, that is some damage listed - this rivals anything that I've seen produced in the states.

Makro's roof caved in earlier apparently. Ohherr, I can't ever remember seeing anything that bad.

I was in town, live in LE7 and thankfully no damage to the house. One froneds car looks like a hammer has been taken to it.

Ohyoubadbadkitten · 28/06/2012 21:44

Your poor friend toddler, have they spoken to their insurance company?

OP posts:
toddlerwrangler · 28/06/2012 21:53

I am not sure ... My MIL has has had so many tiles ripped off the roof, she can see daylight through the garage roof (Newtown Linford) - she tried the insurance company and they have been inundated with calls so they said she has permission to get someone out to cover the holes with plastic while they sort the back log Shock

And just found out there has been serious damage to Alf's pre-school roof. i so feel for them, they had just raised enough money to returf the grass. I am going to go tomorrow to see if I can help fix anything. :(

Hope everyne gets any damage fixed asap.

Ohyoubadbadkitten · 28/06/2012 22:07

It is good that you are going to offer help. What does your mil think caused her damage- wind or hail?

OP posts:
toddlerwrangler · 28/06/2012 22:13

Sounds like wind damage the way she described it. Apparently a big trampoline got flipped into the road, so thinking about it it must be wind.

sleepdodger · 28/06/2012 22:17

Is this for insurance? I have some photos of damage in my village today; it's bad; if you need it pm me

GurlwiththeFrothyCurl · 28/06/2012 22:24

Burbage/Hinckley area. Our street looks like a machine gun has gone off. Tiles ripped off the roof of most houses, windows smashed, conservatories damaged, green houses too. We have glass all over our house, tiles smashed on the ground, branches and leaves strewn everywhere. Car has 30 to 40 dents, wing mirrors broken, headlights cracked. A total mess!

FunnysInLaJardin · 28/06/2012 22:26

My sister lives in LE11 and her house has been flooded today for the first time in over 40 years. She lives by a canal. My mum and dad live in LE12 and my 87 yo Dad said he had never seen anything like the rain they had today.

Ohyoubadbadkitten · 28/06/2012 22:28

No, not for insurance, though if you have damage you do need to talk to your insurance company.
torro is a not for profit research organisation. It is a research organisation founded in 1974 with its aims being to collect data and research and gain understanding of tornados and storms. It's members are all volunteers both amateurs and professionals. It is hoped that by understanding how these storms form that forecasting them in the future may become easier. It is also jolly interesting, but we do respect that it is people's lives that are affected by these events, sometimes in a very serious and traumatic way.
If you are happy to sleepdodger then yes please photos would be very welcome.

Toddler, can you point your mil in the direction of torro please or perhaps pm me with some basic details.

Ohyoubadbadkitten · 28/06/2012 22:38

Off to bed now. I hope that you all get some good sleep after what must have been for some of you a frightening ocasion. Tomorrow looks much calmer.

OP posts:
Ohyoubadbadkitten · 28/06/2012 22:42

Gurl, if you have time, please can you pop a report into torro. They will be very very interested and grateful and it does honestly help with research. I hope you aren't feeling too shocked, but from talking to people with similar experiences in the past, it may take you a bit of time to come to terms with what happened today.

OP posts:
Ohyoubadbadkitten · 28/06/2012 22:43

Funny, I hope your sister is ok and that her house isn't too awful.

Fraid I do need to sleep, catch up with you all tomorrow.

OP posts:
sleepdodger · 29/06/2012 00:12

Gurl think I'm near you, it looks like a weird riot, I never knew how many roofers vans could be in such a small area at once Confused are you ok? Do you need things for dc?

Ohyoubadbadkitten · 29/06/2012 07:39

How are you doing today Gurl? How is everyone else?

OP posts:
Birnamwood · 29/06/2012 08:15

Gurl/sleep, I think I'm near you too and know the road you live on as my mum lives nearby (the road name is to do with trees?!) I had to pass there a few times to check mums house forgot the bloody keys and it looked like someone had taken a machine gun to all the rooves (roofs? The more I look at that word the less it makes sense!). Mum has a few good size holes in it but luckily all else is ok, if a little battered. All her neighbours car windscreens and wing mirrors have been smashed and they have massive dents in them (as has my car :() thank goodness mum is away, I don't think she would have coped very well with that storm.

If there is anything at all I can do to help, please pm me :)

Tinkerisdead · 29/06/2012 13:00

Well my landlords have been out to assess the damage. Apparently my car is likely to be a write off but cant be seen for weeks aa the garage normally has six jobs a day and yesterday it was 200! Ive asked them to replace the windscreen so its drivable and do the rest when they can.

I was woken at 1am by a glazier cutting panes of glass in the street. I shouted out to check what he was up to and he apologised profusely saying it was the earliest he could secure neighbours property as he'd been inundated!!

Mirage · 29/06/2012 13:39

Oh no TheDoctorswife that sounds awful. Are you ok now? I can't imagine how terrifying it must have been for you-I was scared and we got off lightly.

Dh has put a report on TORRO.My neighbour was working in Hinckley and took over 2 hours to get home because of floods and debris on the roads. The guy who runs a garden centre 4 miles from us had every polytunnel and greenhouse destroyed and all of his stock shredded by the hail.I rushed down to the farm to check mine and my aunts tunnels and they weren't damaged at all,it is really strange-to the north and south of us the damage was severe, but despite the power and phones going here and the pub flooding,we were ok.

I was working near Brooksby today and their drive was blocked by fallen trees,my dad says that my sister's car windscreen was smashed in Frisby.Everyone I have spoken to says that they have never seen anything like it in their lives.Shock

Ohyoubadbadkitten · 29/06/2012 14:18

It just depended where you were in relationship to the storm Mirage, its amazing and shocking though isnt it. Thank you very much indeed to your dh.

thedrswife, I hope that you are feeling ok today. That glazier is a bit of a hero I reckon!

HI OYBBK

I am in Hinckley and couldn't get on here yesterday but wow, what an occurance.

Thunder, lightning, hail mostly large marble and golfball sized and the odd one size of my fist.

I got some video footage but I missed the worst of it, just before this video, the tree in my garden was at 3 o clock and it was very much some kind of tornado had just passed. Gutted i missed the wind. Let me know if you want to know anything else. I have a spectacular pic of one of the fist sized hailstones and I will try and get it on my profile

lubeybooby · 29/06/2012 19:37
Ohyoubadbadkitten · 29/06/2012 23:12
