snow for some this week (not an early April fools joke)

I've held off a little on this, though I've mentioned the possibility on the 'weather warning for gardeners thread'.

this week shows an astonishingly rapid turn around in weather, particularly for those in Scotland who have been having record warmth. Snow looks quite likely to be coming to the northern half of the uk, more so I think down the Eastern side. It looks likely to start Monday night, progressing further south into the Pennine region into Tuesday, where some significant accumulation could occur. Of course hilly areas are more susceptible, but it is rather possible there will be snow cover down to low levels.

Further south, sleet or cold rain is more likely.

GFS shows highs of 0C in northern Scotland on tuesday!!!

Updates in the run up :)

We're off to Inverness tomorrow. So strange - sin cracking the flags here in Fife, and packing snowboots and hats for tomorrow.

ohyouBadBadkitten · 31/03/2012 08:37

brrrr habbibu. Glad you are going prepared!

It's forecast for here on Tuesday! I'm sooo excited! Totally bonkers if it does, as last Tues it was 22C and DD was in the paddling pool Grin

It is utterly mad isn't it! Weather is weird!

Bump.
Perhaps not a week to go camping in northern hills.

I have heard that you are more likely to get snow at Easter than at Christmas. No idea if that is really true!

habbibu · 31/03/2012 18:36

We do usually expect snow more in Feb/March than December here.

habbibu · 31/03/2012 18:36

Just not straight after a mini summer...

Kayzr · 31/03/2012 18:38

OYBBK, what are the chance of snow in north Yorkshire on Thursday? I get married and I don't want snow! Sad

ajandjjmum · 31/03/2012 18:38

Sheffield - mid week Kitten?

ohyouBadBadkitten · 31/03/2012 19:34

Kayzr! I think you should be ok Thursday, at the moment I think a little cold drizzle is the most likely scenario.

Aj, ,I think Sheffield itself it could go either way, but you may well be able to see it on the hills around.

Kayzr · 31/03/2012 20:37

Thank you!! I've been panicking about it.

ajandjjmum · 31/03/2012 21:19

Thank you - DS needs to be back in the Midlands for a major dental appt. on Wednesday - I don't want him stranded in the snow. Although I suspect he would rather be Grin

Madsometimes · 31/03/2012 21:43

Hopefully no snow in Centreparcs Elveden, but we shall certainly be bringing all our woollies. Drizzle and sleet shall not stop us from having fun.

ohyouBadBadkitten · 31/03/2012 22:12

I hope you have a wonderful day kayzr.

Can't believe we're getting snow on Monday, I thought people were winding me up but I've seen the forecast!

ohyouBadBadkitten · 01/04/2012 09:41

Not Monday VJ but Tuesday does look rather possible. Although temps will be colderin Scotland, with a midday temp of below freezing possible, I think the heaviest could be in the pennines.

12 years ago we got married at the end of April. 2 days before hand we needed the snowplough to get out of the village (Sheffield \ Derbyshire border). Wedding day was warm and sunny.

ohyouBadBadkitten · 01/04/2012 10:02

So funny how it goes!!! Glad your day went well. Tis a tricky area for unseasonable snow isn't it! I remember when we were visiting around the Buxton area one late October. We were in Bakewell and the snow started. By the time we were ready to leave all the roads were closed and we were stuck in the clothes we were stood up in. which were very wet as we tried to ignore the road closed signs and follow a plough, unfortunately we well off the road and I had to lie in a snow bank trying to push the car out. Fortunately tourist info helped us to find a lovely place to stay.

Sleet may make it quite a long way south on Tuesday.

Brrrr - it's a pretty day out today, but bloody cold here! My friend was going to pack her winter woolies away, but on the strength of your comments on the other thread I told her not to :)

Good call!

weather warnings from met office

Quick disclaimer for those who don't know me. Am utterly an amateur and doing this in my spare time, so my accuracy may be wobbly and sometimes I may not get round to everyone's requests. Of course payment in chocolate is always welcome.
