Massive warning at the start of this thread. I'm not a qualified meteorologist, just a very keen amateur. I do frequently get things wrong and sometimes I miss things when life gets very busy (which it is rather atm) But, I'll do my best to give people a heads up to snow forecasts as we get them, as long as you all promise not to sue/hate me when it all goes horribly wrong.

So first area to highlight is the western side of Scotland including the highlands and part of central Scotland. Met office have warnings Sunday/into Monday

Also very worth being aware that towards the end of this week, hilly parts of northern England including the Pennines (and perhaps welsh hills too?) may well get some snow by the end of the working week.

We are in the Amber zone for weather warnings. I'd rather not go anywhere but have to go for work.

BlackCatinaSantaHat · 07/12/2011 14:01

YaMaYaMa I am in NW too. I am worried about DH he has to cycle to work later.

TobyLeWolef · 07/12/2011 14:44

The wind is picking up even down here in Kent.

Look after yourselves!

OhYouBadBadReindeer · 07/12/2011 15:57

chickens, I would, you are out of the worst of it but the wind will still probably become very strong in your area.
Puff - make sure he is prepared with all the blankets and hot drinks and what not if he needs to go out in it. Hopefully he will know the safer routes to take?

oh golly, just to add to everyones fun, I've just read that there will also be an associated cold front crossing the country similar to last tuesdays (which created some damage that may have been caused by tornadoes - investigations into these are still ongoing by TORRO) so further south - say the Midlands, may once again see a strong squall line with possible associated dramatic weather)

Yes, he does knows what he is doing and I will make sure he has got essentials with him. Told him about the snow and wind thats coming and he laughed Hmm. We are pretty isolated, about 6 miles before a main road. I drove home at 10pm on Tuesday night (10 miles from work) and didn't pass another car! Scary stuff esp when the white stuff is falling and you don't know where the road is road and where the verge is!

Ironically we are meant to be collecting our new 4x4 car on Friday!

OhYouBadBadReindeer · 07/12/2011 16:06

He laughed? silly man. Am glad to hear he know's what he is doing.

BlackCat I'm in Liverpool so we're quite sheltered I think, hope your dh isnt cycling anywhere too exposed/dangerous.

stuffthenonsense · 07/12/2011 16:23

awful here near liverpool....last night we witnessed horrendous thunder/lightning and a lightning bolt set fire to and destroyed a house along our road. weather can be scary.

OhYouBadBadReindeer · 07/12/2011 16:25

hmmm. Looks like wind gusts could reach 90mph+ over some of central and perhaps southern Scotland tomorrow. Looks more like an afternoon/evening event with the worst of the winds out of the way by midnight, but timings may change so it is really really important that you pay attention the met office timings for any decisions that may affect your safety.

OhYouBadBadReindeer · 07/12/2011 16:25

stuff - that is scary!

Very windy here today. A recycling box left on the pavement flew across the road and hit the front of my car, fortunately didn't do any damage though. It's often very windy where I am but really bad today.

YaMaYaMa · 07/12/2011 16:45

Bloody hell stuff! That kind of blows my 'quite sheltered' theory out of the water Grin

This is a stupid question, for I am stupid, but why have we been getting so much thunder? I thought thunder was related to warm air but it's baltic this weekConfused

HowToLookGoodGlaikit · 07/12/2011 16:47

Gritter lorry just went by. At least I'm guessing a gritter lorry, I could see the orange flashing light, and it sounded like one but I am poorly and cba to get up from my nest on the sofa.

JingleBelleDameSansMerci · 07/12/2011 19:56

Great Sad I have to travel as there is no way I can get out of this meeting on a weather warning. Hey ho. Wish me luck in my heavy Swedish car!
