sorry for my absence in the weather threads this week or so. A lot of real life going on. Dundee though had a whopper of a hail storm on Thursday.

Anyway, this weekend as no doubt you'll have seen gets really rather warm. Some parts will see 30C by Sunday/Monday. oof. Along with that hot weather there is a real risk of some good storms on Monday. When and where.....? No idea yet. A cold front moving south will herald more normal June temperatures and as that comes across the hot humid air, theres' potential for a good degree of instability. More details to come......

Just hit 25C here. Not bad for 9:30am.

Don't forget Isle of Wight Detector for lightening strikes. Looking good over the channel!

25.8C (which is the same as yesterdays max) and still climbing. Pity me - I have to go and cycle somewhere now!
Back later for an update.

I forgot how long it took to cake 3 children in suncream and let it dry before getting ready for school. We made it on time.....just, but am all hot and sweaty.

Was going to trim the overgrown hedges at the front of the house this morning, but it's far too hot.

GloriaSmud · 27/06/2011 10:35

Hope you take lots of water with you, OYBBK!

Car temp guage was saying it was 27C at 8.50am and that was in shade!
My garden thermometer's saying 31C at the moment. Will look out for the thundery~type of cloud building up as the day goes on.

mankyscotslass · 27/06/2011 11:28

Hope you are wearing a hat OYBBK.

No sign of clouds here, just covered myself i factor 30, there is no shade at all in the junior school playground, so lunch duty will be hot.

Poor kids . We keep suggesting some sort of awning for them to give some sort of shade, but nothing has been forthcoming so far.

GloriaSmud · 27/06/2011 11:42

Oh dear, manky. It's one of those days when they should be outside but when it gets like this and perhaps as there's no shade, they should be inside.

Garden thermometer says its 32C now. We're getting high wispy cloud so the sun actually goes 'in' or is hazy at times. There's quite a nice breeze (although that's hot too!) blowing.
Phew!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 27/06/2011 12:20

27.1 C and over cast yuk!!

had my cycle helmet on.
Back home later than expected - my bike lock jammed Shock and I had to ask for help to break into it. A lovely very helpful and kind lady handily equipped with screwdrivers helped me and we got it open. so I wheeled my bike into the nearest bike shop and bought a new (decent) lock on the spot.
Glass of water or 12 then I'll look at the situation.

yuk Manky1

The situation is too complicated for me to predict at all now.

updated estofex mentioning possibility of large hail and perhaps brief isolated tornadoes.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 27/06/2011 12:46

blue sky reappearing but it feels a bit 'impending doomish' out there.

GloriaSmud · 27/06/2011 13:23

Oh blimey, OYBBK, what a time for that to happen!

We've got mainly hazy sunshine now. Had to pick up DH from work and car temp guage said it was 31C.

Netweather weather warnings seem to be the same as all the others!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 27/06/2011 13:43

It was a bit Blush and a bit Angry but I came away smiling cos of the lovely help I had.
I am puzzled by the lack of TORRO alert. perhaps they are all on holiday!

HarrietJones · 27/06/2011 13:58

Cumbria v hot. Dd1 left the suncream on residential ( new one[grr]) so off for another as 2 kids/me yesterday & 4 of us today has almost cleaned us out.

mankyscotslass · 27/06/2011 14:15

How annoying OYBBK!

Well I survived lunchtime. I'm sure my 2 classes think I am obsessed with them drinking enough though. Grin

It's just gone overcast here, very humid. 28c and 59% humidity. There is a bit of a breeze now though.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 27/06/2011 14:18

its astonishing how quickly you can get through the stuff HJ isn't it.

Well done manky!

I'd promised myself a lovely afternoon of pottering in the wilderness garden. But I keep coming back to look at the storm situation. By the time anything happens I'll be exhausted!

Cloudy and 16 here. I want some summer!!!

GloriaSmud · 27/06/2011 14:23

Ah yes, it's amazing where help comes from when you need it!

We have the 'impending doom' cloud now! It's a bit more bearable now the sun's gone in. The local weather forecast at lunchtime said that we might have 'dry storms' tonight, where there's no rain; just thunder/lightning.

Just heard on Wimbledon's Centre Court, it's 40C! Shock How do you play in temperatures like that?

OhYouBadBadKitten · 27/06/2011 14:24

you must liveup in the land of the perpetual gloom/drizzle/gales then Seb. Sometimes I feel quite guilty with these forecasts as there are some parts of the uK they hardly ever apply to.
If I give you 4C of my temperature that would help wouldnt it? 26.4C and mostly overcast.

OP posts:
OhYouBadBadKitten · 27/06/2011 15:04

TORRO don't seem hugely excited about prospects :(

mankyscotslass · 27/06/2011 16:43

Raining a little now, clouds don't look particulary ominous though.

The rain is only occasional apologetic drops!

whomovedmychocolate · 27/06/2011 16:51

Has been over 30 degrees today and DH has just taken the kids to the shops (on foot) for ice cream and of course he's been gone five minutes and it's pissing down Grin

Will have to go and rescue them in the car in a minute.

The little bit of rain we had has stoipped, it didn't even wet the ground!

It does feel more ominous now though!
