sorry for my absence in the weather threads this week or so. A lot of real life going on. Dundee though had a whopper of a hail storm on Thursday.

Anyway, this weekend as no doubt you'll have seen gets really rather warm. Some parts will see 30C by Sunday/Monday. oof. Along with that hot weather there is a real risk of some good storms on Monday. When and where.....? No idea yet. A cold front moving south will herald more normal June temperatures and as that comes across the hot humid air, theres' potential for a good degree of instability. More details to come......

32c and 61% humidity here.

THe boots are still not dry enough to brush though.

Twit · 26/06/2011 17:38

ooh yuk mankyscotslass does stuff dry in high humidity do you think?

OhYouBadBadKitten · 26/06/2011 18:01

We reached a lovely 25.6C.
Official met office highest reading that I can find is Gravesend at 28.9C but no doubt that their thermometers won't be exactly centered over the highest temps.
Tomorrow going to be hotter for those in south and east but probably a little cooler for the midlands you'll be glad to hear. still looking very interesting storm wise tomorrow. I think it could be one of those classic days- soaring temperatures, high humidity, brassy coloured hint to the sky - then the clouds build.......
I'd be anxious if I was a crop farmer, esp in East Anglia. Reasonable potential for large hail...

oops, beg your pardon, 25.8C max temp for us.

Cumbria, overcast mostly, the sun peeking through in places. Feeling quite cool in the house and only just been out to put washing out and it's muggy as hell!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 26/06/2011 18:05

(btw, I'm not doubting the high temp readings reported here at all - perfectly feasible, esp if urban or sheltered, just in case I'm not coming across as I mean to)

I've stuck pictures of the boots on my profile!

We had to stick the air con units on in the boys room tonight.....

GloriaSmud · 26/06/2011 20:31

Oh my, manky!
What colour should they be?

mankyscotslass · 26/06/2011 20:49

Wellies are supposed to be black, the lace up walking boots are light brown! Confused

OhYouBadBadKitten · 26/06/2011 21:18

oh wow Manky - they look like they've been hanging up in Mother Shiptons Cave for a year!

Lokoking good for tomorrow for storms, but I'm a bit worried that up round the midlands it will be one of those horrid days where the the cloud comes in before the storms making it utterly stuffy and horrid. Down in the south and sE all the ingredients are there for big storms. The question that noone can answer is precisely where and when - storms are a bit like making popcorn - you don't know which bits will go 'pop' when and which bits will just remain hard kernels (crap analogy alert!)

mankyscotslass · 26/06/2011 21:21

Am very Envy for those south of us who will have storms !

OhYouBadBadKitten · 26/06/2011 21:30

oh, you may well get storms manky don't worry! But probably more of the grumbly mid level storms rather than the dramatic impending doom sort. Could well be wrong though ! really really hard to forecast.

OP posts:
mankyscotslass · 26/06/2011 21:35

Fingers x!

GloriaSmud · 26/06/2011 21:37

Those are wellies?!
They do look, errm, very crusty!

Looks like DD2 will have a rather hot and humid time of it on her residential. Will smother her in suncream tomorrow morning before she goes!
Garden thermometer is saying it's 24C at the moment.

whomovedmychocolate · 26/06/2011 21:39

It hit 30 degrees here today (Oxfordshire) and now it looks like it may rain. Don't know whether to water the plants or not Confused

OhYouBadBadKitten · 26/06/2011 21:51

I would wmmc I would be really surprised if you got rain tonight unless a rogue storm popped up.

A proper look in about 45 mins but Estofex have issued a level one warning for storms.
Interesting to see local met office forecast predicting only 24C down here - they seem to think that cloud will build up limiting temps. As we are at 22C at the moment, i'm unsure. A proper look of my own is needed!
At a guess (!!) I'd say that the midlands (esp east) are at risk from storms in the afternoon, while the south and south east's main risk is this evening/tonight.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 27/06/2011 07:52

Have abandoned motherly duties for a bit longer to look at CAPE and lifted index. I'd say that Eastern England centered around the Wash looks to be at highest risk for this afternoon. Risk does extend to quite a wide region though (right down to Bristol Channel) but at the moment for the afternoon I'd say that the East Midlands are at greatest risk for something interesting.

Shock they are going to get heat stroke in SW19. Unless the cloud comes in earlier than expected they will see 30C+ easily. Mid afternoon on the risk of torrential downpours.
