Heavy rain/thunderstorms over the weekend?

Thought it might be interesting to note who ends up having the heavy rain/thunderstorms that they're forecasting for some areas of the country over the weekend.

We had cloud first thing and a few heavy spots of rain about 20 minutes ago but the sun's beginning to come out now and it's quite humid.

very muggy here too - mostly cloudy - temps maxed out at 21C. Unsure as to whether we'll get anything other than some high level rumbles of thunder with rain.
hey ho.

It's been raining since not long after I posted. Hope it will dry up tomorrow. School are having a duck race and bbq.

mankyscotslass · 07/05/2011 18:20

It's been dry since lunchtime here.

Massive thunder and lightning and rain here in the SE this morning

So relieved really as it means the forest fires might get put out. See here Sad

piratecat · 07/05/2011 18:28

only just seen this.

we had a lovely thunder and lightning storm last night here in south devon.

i say lovely but dd cam ein with me a bit scared, but we turned off the lights and watched out my bedroom window. it lasted a good hour, from about half 9-10 ish i think.

raining a fair bit, then suddenly a huge downpour and a thunder clap that scared the life out of me!!

my grass seed, i hope will benefit! first proper rain here in devon for weeks.

The fires are really bad collision :(

OhYouBadBadKitten · 07/05/2011 19:39

latest from TORRO Going to potentially be a noisy troublesome night for some. Any reports will be received with interest.

GloriaSmud · 07/05/2011 19:55

Temperatures down to 20C now and the wind got up about an hour ago. Dark cloud to the west but wouldn't say it's the sort i.e. dark enough, to produce a thunder storm. Might get a storm in a few hours time but would say it's 'hit and miss' at the moment. Looks like we're going to get lots of rain overnight though!

Thanks Gloria :) I think all of the stuff is elevated at the moment - its the stuff heading north from France that could get interesting. (dont really understand why tORRO have a tornado watch out for some but the forecasters are experienced)

droitwichmummy · 07/05/2011 21:28

Its been raining here (N Worcestershire) all evening but no thunder or lightning. No sign of it letting up so the gardens will get a good soaking (& the farmers must be relieved). I am hoping for drier weather tomorrow so we can go out for the day.

Tortoise · 07/05/2011 22:21

Rain sounds very heavy out there at the moment.

GloriaSmud · 07/05/2011 22:57

Got rain here too (Leicester).
Don't think we're going to get anything more than that ~ it just hasn't got warm/humid enough for a thunderstorm.

In the end i think there were very few storms - the ingredients didnt quite come together - so lots of heavy convective rain fall (we had 12mm) but not so many flashes and bangs. Thats how it goes!

GloriaSmud · 08/05/2011 16:41

As I thought would happen, there weren't any storms here and we ended up with about the same amount of rain as you, OYBBK.
At least the garden's looking a bit better and the pond a bit fuller. Tadpoles are happy!

As you say, lots of rain here, just a few flashes about 2215 Saturday night. Nothing like the intensity of Fri night. Showers late Sun afternoon & eve.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 09/05/2011 12:05

TORRO have issued a convective discussion for today. A 'discussion' is when they think that there is potential for something to happen.

mankyscotslass · 09/05/2011 13:50

Just had a very heavy shower, now dried up again.

It's been lovely this morning, sunny with cloudy intervals, but I had to race the clouds home from work to get the washing in!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 09/05/2011 14:26

manky and Gloria - have pmed you with some important news....

GloriaSmud · 09/05/2011 16:33

Have replied, OYBBK (at least I hope I have; I've never had a PM or had to reply to one before on Mumsnet!)
