what do you think? will the uk be buried under 6 foot of snow, or will cheltenham be cold, wet and windy?

OP posts:

OYSSK - thank you for such fabulous information.

I don't think I'll be getting to Hampshire today - in Somerset we saw graupel at about 0745 and now we have steady heavy snow with poor visibility. It doesn't look like it's going anywhere. We're quite high up for Somerset too, so expect to come of slightly worse than some other areas.

The metoffice invent rainfall shows a significant change between their forecast and the most recent activity - the weather hasn't gone quite where they thought it would.

I've no idea where you're travelling from, but enjoy the Horse Show!

SuePurblybiltbyElves · 20/12/2010 08:53

Eek! Can barely open my back door where it's drifted. Lots of fresh snow overnight in Nroth/Mid Devon, on top of a good 15-20cm. And still snowing!

Envy

Think we have had our lot til after Christmas. Sad

OhYouSnowySnowyKitten · 20/12/2010 09:05

Did you spot your emergency weather warning Sue?

daisy - I think you are right with your travel plans :) for me it is more marginal, met office are still going with light snow only.

Can I ask a favour please from someone - could I have a London latest forecast on this thread early afternoon. I need to know by early afternoon whether to cancel the hotel or not. Thanks :)

SuePurblybiltbyElves · 20/12/2010 09:22

Nah, I'm boycotting them, Kitten. It makes no odds to me - I can't go anywhere anyway Xmas Grin. As long as I have internet access and electricity to mnet work, I'm OK. Pot Noodles and all.

Might we see you today at Olympia then Kitten? Wave at the cameras.

OhYouSnowySnowyKitten · 20/12/2010 09:26

Should do tonight Sue :)

SuePurblybiltbyElves · 20/12/2010 09:29

Excellent. Red Button at 6.30, me and my selection box Xmas Grin. Wave in a kitten-y, weather-y way and DD and I will wave back.

OhYouSnowySnowyKitten · 20/12/2010 09:48

ok - if you were me, given the uncertainty, would you say 'sod it' and just stay in the hotel over night - (for: its the no worry option, against: bloody expensive!) Problem is, to get back we either have to rely on dh being able to drive up or we have to miss the finale.

OhYouSnowySnowyKitten · 20/12/2010 09:48

Xmas Grin kitteny/weathery way. I need one of those jumpers like that weather chap used to wear on Richard and Judy

OhYouSnowySnowyKitten · 20/12/2010 09:53

Actually, the latest gfs is out and it is still going for snow London way as is the UKMO and the JMA. In fact the only thing that isn't is met office invent. I should go with my instincts.

OhYouSnowySnowyKitten · 20/12/2010 10:15

Looks like intense snowfall may be due to hit southern hampshire soon.

Rudolphsnose · 20/12/2010 10:20

Sweet Lord Shock snow is hammering down here in Bristol. DHs boss is saying he won't accept any excuses for not seeing clients. DHs clients are in Tetbury and Tewkesbury FFS Angry

Rudolphsnose · 20/12/2010 10:22

Thank you Kitten btw, sterling work and much more
Accurate than any of the official websites.

geraldinetheluckygoat · 20/12/2010 10:22

any idea if we are due any more in Bedford this week, Kitten?
lol@the idea of your Weather Jumper! MNtters could send them in...

OhYouSnowySnowyKitten · 20/12/2010 10:27

ok chaps, I need to go now. I may be back on my phone very much later on (but with out forecasting ability) or on pc if it really does end up keeping London clear (so sceptical about that!)

tjacksonpfc · 20/12/2010 10:33

It is hammering it down with snow in tidworth, just north of salisbur. Just what we want on top of the 6 inches we already have. Ican see our christmas being cancelled the way its going as we are meant to be going to family. We cant even get the car off the drive and got no christmas food in as wern't meant to be here Xmas Angry

SuePurblybiltbyElves · 20/12/2010 11:16

My godmother used to design most of his jumpers (Fred the Weatherman). I could ask her for a Kitten-y, weather-y one
Good luck Kitten. Wave at the cameras.

PfftTheMagicDragon · 20/12/2010 11:17

Kitten - I shall keep an eye out for London forecast this afternoon.

CherryTheRedNosedMonster · 20/12/2010 11:20

so kitten, am i likely to see a white christmas? even if it is just the remaining snow we have now. we are predicted more tonight, on top of the 3 inches we already have, but is rain going to wash it away before saturday? and is my mum going to be able to drive the 12 miles from gloucester to take me food shopping on thursday or do i have to walk to sainsburys every day and bring food back on the sled?

PfftTheMagicDragon · 20/12/2010 13:44

Kitten - GFS are saying 88% chance of London snow at 3pm.

winterpetunia · 20/12/2010 14:01

OYSSK ~ having seen both the BBC and ITV weather forecasts after their lunchtime news, I'd stay overnight in London tonight. There's lots of talk of 'the rush hour being tricky' for the area.

OhYouSnowySnowyKitten · 20/12/2010 14:03

Thanks pfft. We are going to stay overnight, it seems clear that met office invent not got the hang of today.

OhYouSnowySnowyKitten · 20/12/2010 14:06

Thanks petunia :) looks like we have made the right decision . Much appreciate both of your help! Thank you!!! Not very good on this phone!

SleepingLion · 20/12/2010 14:06

Cherry - other threads are saying Gloucester is pretty dire at the moment so you might want to keep going with the sledge just in case...

PfftTheMagicDragon · 20/12/2010 15:22

We have snow falling in Birmingham.
