oooooohhhhhhhhhhhhh, predictions for south cumbria missy ??

Ave just dug up and gritted my path, don't want anymore !

DanceInTheDark · 21/12/2010 20:01

We had a severe flashwarning issued for snow from 6pm tonight on met office, so i checked what metcheck said and it just says clear skies and feels like -11 (bbbbrrrr) I think i would rather have snow - it feels warmer somehow Blush

duckyfuzz · 21/12/2010 20:35

so, we made it back from our 500 mile round trip, curtailed due to my poor brother, SIL and 6mo not being able to fly back into Heathrow, but managed to visit pg sis and see fab Matilda in Stratford...now we see we have snow all night and all day tomorrow in the NE, is this right kitten?! If so, we're glad we had to come home early!

OhYouSnowySnowyKitten · 21/12/2010 21:22

Not seen a flash warning for Cumbria? I can seeaflash for Cheshire and early advisory for Cumbria. I still think that it looks like Liverpool will be the northern edge for that band. (watch me be wrong!!!)

NE does look bad again I'm afraid down to about Middlesborough or thereabouts.- lots of heavy snow showers creeping in.

In between those two areas looks jolly cold but ok I think

OhYouSnowySnowyKitten · 21/12/2010 21:23

well done on your epic trip ducky :)

duckyfuzz · 21/12/2010 21:25

thanks kitten, we are north of Middlesbrough so will be prepared. How's your sore throat now?

Justalittlereindeer · 21/12/2010 21:29

Bloody forecast changed again according to BBC...they've gone from predicting heavy snow to fog Hmm

Met office seems to have been updated, and snow seems to be ending up further NW than earlier.

Any opinions oh wise Kitten?

OhYouSnowySnowyKitten · 21/12/2010 22:11

It is a little bit further north at the moment, taking in Liverpool quite well, also does seem to graze as far south as milton keynes but I don't think it is much different tbh.

Worth noting for the snow starved in norfolk - it may be your turn too!

OhYouSnowySnowyKitten · 21/12/2010 22:14

its not great ducky - thanks for asking. I seem to have some sort of lurgy. Didnt even want my dinner! I am going to fight it off though.

sarahfreck · 21/12/2010 22:20

According to Met Office, the precipitation forecast seems to start in NW (near Manchester),follow the M6 down to the Midlands and the M5 down to Gloucester and then move east across the M4 corridor to London. And for 100 points, guess where I will likely be driving on Thursday/Friday/Saturday! I thought you were supposed to follow a star at this time of year, not a snow cloud!

pigsinmud · 21/12/2010 22:21

OYSSK - you are good. Is that it for snow for Surrey? Seems much warmer now and thawing at a fast rate.

Mil meant to be driving down from remote village in Shropshire on Christmas Day. Is she likely to be able to make this journey?

I have become obssessed with this thread and general weather forecast watching!

duckyfuzz · 21/12/2010 22:24

Get some echinacea kitten, hope it stays away for Christmas at least! Sarahfleck good luck with your journey!

OhYouSnowySnowyKitten · 21/12/2010 22:28

schilke - I think it might be :) As long as local driving conditions are ok from left over snow are ok then I think your MIL should be to make it. Hope that is the news you were hoping to hear!

sarahfreck - it honestly looks much better thursday on :)

OhYouSnowySnowyKitten · 21/12/2010 22:30

thats a good idea ducky!

pigsinmud · 21/12/2010 22:31

Thank you. I don't get on terribly well with mil, but don't want her to be stuck on her own for Christmas! Hope you feel better soon.

OhYouSnowySnowyKitten · 21/12/2010 22:41

thanks :)
I am off to bed and intend to be magically better in the morning. I can't complain though after the most splendiferous evening last night!

sarahfreck · 21/12/2010 22:56

Hope you feel better soon Snowy Kitten and that you sleep well!

mankyscotslass · 22/12/2010 08:16

Hope you feel better today!

Well this morning the cars don't need scraping and the roofs look a bit wet.

The compacted snow from friday is covered n a film of water.....that will be a nightmare to walk/drive on.

mankyscotslass · 22/12/2010 09:03

The cars now needs scraping. Hmm

Temp has dropped again!

laughalot · 22/12/2010 09:03

Been snowing in mansfield north nottinghamshire not alot but enough to cause a few problems.

sarahfreck · 22/12/2010 09:53

OK - Does anyone out there know what the road conditions are like round Cirencester and Malmesbury. Are the main routes gritted and OK? I'm thinking of driving my elderly and frail parents from their home in Gloucestershire to London on Christmas Eve. Obviously the motorways should be OK by Friday I would think but I have to do quite a bit of ordinary road travel through Cirencester and Malmesbury and wondered about the wisdom of this.

OhYouSnowySnowyKitten · 22/12/2010 09:55

Thanks chaps. unfortunately dd has the d&v bug now. I'm not too bad - just a sore throat. Not had chance to look at the models.

OhYouSnowySnowyKitten · 22/12/2010 09:57

oh - not weather but I've seen there was an earthquake in Cumbria last night. Anyone here felt it?

OhYouSnowySnowyKitten · 22/12/2010 09:58

you can report if you felt it here

Deliaskis · 22/12/2010 10:06

Well all the drama of last night's weather warnings amounted to not very much here in East Cheshire (nr Macclesfield, border of peak district, eastern edge of Cheshire plain). We had been expecting a significant snowfall overnight and only ended up with a couple of cm of fairly wet snow. I guess it must have just pushed south of us.
