So yes, I know the official advice is six months and that we all think waiting till then is best, but in honesty, how old were your kids when they first tasted solid food?

I don't think I know anyone in RL that waited till six months!

14 weeks - four and a half years ago (don't shoot!)

She was far happier on 'solid' food (v. runny baby rice and a bit of pured organic veg) than she ever was on milk (didn't take to the breast in spite of me perservering for 2 weeks, and had rampaging colic from then onward in spite of presciption formula, organic formula - you name it) has had precisely 1 v. minor tummy bug in her entire life and eats virtually everything.

I know I'll probably get flamed for this but my personal belief based on my experience is that a liquid only diet didn't agree with her, although obviously I wouldn't have tried solids any sooner.

bluebump · 12/03/2009 12:18

24 weeks but it took another month before he was really interested in anything.

trixymalixy · 12/03/2009 12:30

A few days off 26 weeks.

BlameItOnTheBogey · 12/03/2009 12:31

28 weeks here. DS showed no interest before then. But once we started, he ate everything and anything and is a fantastic eater now.

likessleep · 12/03/2009 12:31

24 and a half weeks

cass66 · 12/03/2009 13:34

16 weeks, 18 weeks and 21 weeks. no problems with any of them.

Rindercella · 12/03/2009 13:40

5 1/2 months. No idea why I didn't wait another couple of weeks. Apart from of course, all the pressure from all around me - she's a big baby, she needs more than your milk. It'll make her sleep through the night. Blah, blah, blah. If I have another, I will wait until that baby is 6 months before I start weaning.

Habbibu · 12/03/2009 13:57

26 weeks - ish. Am amazed at those who can recall to the day. We went to a wedding and kept her busy with passing food off our plates to her...

IwishIwasmoreorganised · 12/03/2009 14:01

DS1 18 weeks

DS2 25 weeks

clumsymum · 12/03/2009 14:04

about 3 and 3/4 months, 4 months was the advice at the time.

He was a very hungry baby, had been on 'hungry baby milk' and was difficult to fill, which is why I introduced little bits that tiny bit early.

He liked everything except avocado, I very quickly adapted to feeding him the same foods as us (pureed or mashed of course, but retaining as much texture and seperate flavours as I dare), and 9 years on he is a totally unfussy eater, will eat anything, and naturally chooses a good balanced diet, including fruit and salads.

saltcod · 12/03/2009 14:21

6 months to the day...

wasabipeanut · 12/03/2009 14:24

22 weeks - wish I'd waited longer now but didn't know about the 26 weeks advice. My HV didn't mention it and neither did the HV's as the weighing clinic.

schneebly · 12/03/2009 14:28

21 weeks and 22 weeks

If I had another I would wait it out longer and poss do BLW.

Gorionine · 12/03/2009 14:31

Dd1 and Ds2 4mths as it was the oficial advice at the time.
Ds3 tried at 6mts (new official advice) but he refused solids until 9mths.
DD4 at 6mths

ProfYaffle · 12/03/2009 14:32

dd1 18 weeks I think but not sure. I was among the last of my friends to do it, hv was a bit confused as to why I was waiting so long.

dd2 24 weeks, did blw.

Trinityrhino · 12/03/2009 14:32

28 weeks
26 weeks
26 weeks

all three of them exclusively bf till then
first one was at a time when the guidelines were 4 months

peppapighastakenovermylife · 12/03/2009 15:27

DS 19 weeks DD 26 weeks

Went on signs of readiness - DS could sit unsupported and feed himself finger foods at that age. DD was happier with milk longer

louii · 12/03/2009 15:31

Probably nearer to 7 months here.

noddyholder · 12/03/2009 15:31

4 months as was advised 14 yrs ago.All my aunties etc and my mum thought it was late and he must have been hungry!

LittleMissBliss · 12/03/2009 15:34

5.5 months BLW.

GrinnyPig · 12/03/2009 15:38

DD1 - 3 months
DD2 - 4 months

Was the advice given at the time. TBH neither of them liked solid food much and some days I forgot to give them any

The midwife in the hospital had a chat with me and told me that because DD1 was such a big baby that I should give her a bottle with some baby rice in it when I got her home (she would have been less than one week old). I did choose to ignore that advice.

Lawks · 12/03/2009 15:43

Dd: Between 25 and 26 weeks.
Ds: Between 26 and 27 weeks.

BikeRunSki · 12/03/2009 15:53

6months + 1 day, which was 26 weeks.

It was last Sunday.

ohdearwhatamess · 12/03/2009 15:58

Ds1 at 20 weeks on HV's advice. Wish I'd waited until later.

DS2 at 26 weeks.

funnypeculiar · 12/03/2009 16:04

dd - 5 1/2 mths
