It's horrendous isn't it?
BTW AA.
The netmums sticky. It's a great copy n paster isn't it

BigTeuchLittleTeuch · 03/10/2008 09:11

The Bounty guidelines clearly state that people shuold not "Provide instructions for illegal or otherwise harmful activities"...

Where are the journos on MN? Can't one of you pick up the issue of how helpful online forums are when parents reinforce dangerous/unhelpful practices?

stretchmarkqueen · 03/10/2008 09:19

Hi all, back again. See it's got no better. They've pulled the thread again??

VictorianSqualor · 03/10/2008 09:36

I've emailed Mike Brady to see if he knows who to contact.
I'm also writing a blog wrt the bounty fiasco.

stretchmarkqueen · 03/10/2008 09:37

Thing is though, we've got no proof because they keep pulling the threads. Whos mike brady??

VictorianSqualor · 03/10/2008 09:41

Mike Brady is the guy that does Baby Milk Action (the nestle boycott).
And I do have proof.
I have saved a few of the pages.

ilovemyflipflops · 03/10/2008 09:46

Whilst looking for what weaning advice bounty actually supplies i just followed the links through the nutrition tab at the top. It took me to an expert to whom you can ask questions. This turns out to be Mr Muller... Am i right to be worried by the 'experts' answer to this question??

Q. My son is 4 months old 17 weeks and I have started weaning as a very hungry baby. Please can you confirm that it is ok for him to have Little Stars Fromage Frais? He loves them by the way.
Ali & Thiru
A. Müller® Little Stars® Fromage Frais (and smooth yogurts) are suitable from weaning and onwards. Made with only 7 natural ingredients they?re delicious as well as nutritious so I can understand why he loves them!
You might find it useful to speak with your Health Visitor for more information on weaning and the weaning diet.

Shouldn't they advise she starts weaning with fruit and veg or the like? i can't ever imagine giving my babies little stars or anything with sugar in at 17 weeks or is that just me?? but then again i still only give my 23 month old dd natural yoghurt with real fruit or little Rachels yoghurts sweetened with grape juice. I'm sure if my fellow 0-3 mums got hold of that info i'd prob be branded a nut who deprives my child of the delights of sugary food...

I'm now tempted to ask a question...

stretchmarkqueen · 03/10/2008 09:49

Good on you!! They also pulled the thread last night on 4-6 months where they were taking the piss out of us and saying things like, "lol- lets go and wind up more" (not an actual quote btw) I responded by saying how mature they were etc.. but then I had to go to bed!

I've been looking at the netmums site, and a few others, to see what their approach to weaning is, and I have to say, that for all the taking the piss we do etc. they seem to have a sensible approach to it. The admins come on and post the guidelines, so noone can argue with them and say they're telling them what to do!! Lol!

VictorianSqualor · 03/10/2008 09:49

OMG.
No way.
This gets worse.

Title of the blog? Waittowean@fdsufsg or wait2wean@fhbodfaoo
Do you think people will miss the second t out if it is waittowean?

stretchmarkqueen · 03/10/2008 09:50

def. wait2wean, will appeal to the txt culture!!

ilovemyflipflops · 03/10/2008 09:51

Possibly, i'd go with wait2wean

VictorianSqualor · 03/10/2008 09:52

Ok.
I'm going to have to write the copy n paste text from netmums in my own words now
So twill be a while.
I'll link it once back.
Would be good if anyone could post any links they have as to why so I can put them on it.
Thanks.

stretchmarkqueen · 03/10/2008 09:58

??

See, this has some good points, and put in a non-threatening way, BUT it also states that mum is the best judge for when a baby is ready to wean??

I like the idea of putting in the reason why babies need to be weaned. As a gradual process to get them eating family meals etc.. no need to rush, no competition etc.. Food is for fun etc..

PathofLeastResistance · 03/10/2008 10:01

You guys are amazing. Well done.

stretchmarkqueen · 03/10/2008 10:01

"We now know that it?s usually best to wait until six months, but all babies are different so you might want to ask your health visitor or GP for advice about when is best for your baby." Why do they all have to put this???

My gp knows nothing about infant nutrition!

stretchmarkqueen · 03/10/2008 10:03

www.eatwell.gov.uk/agesandstages/baby/weaning/

That was the food standards agency btw!!

stretchmarkqueen · 03/10/2008 10:06

grrr

Sorry not very helpful vs!! But OMG! 3rd and 4th paragraph in partic.

ilovemyflipflops · 03/10/2008 10:09

Oh dear lord, they left out that the baby could be waking due to a growth spurt, i'm disgusted how can they actually say you should start a few weeks before the recommended 6 months

ilovemyflipflops · 03/10/2008 10:13

This is prob where the gp's get their info from

stretchmarkqueen · 03/10/2008 10:17

I think I will go to get baby weighed on monday, and see what my HV has to say about weaning. I haven't been back since he was 12 weeks, he's now nearly 21 weeks Just didn't want to get into arguement about weaning, but am def in the mood now

VictorianSqualor · 03/10/2008 10:18

Okay.
The blog so far.
www.wait2wean.blogspot.com

stretchmarkqueen · 03/10/2008 10:20

not sure about this one?

Seems to be almost reccomending BLW?

stretchmarkqueen · 03/10/2008 10:25

Brill, well done! Am a follower now! Think you are also my fb 'friend'? I'm s a r a h h u n t e r.

PathofLeastResistance · 03/10/2008 10:26

Can I make a suggestion for your blog? Perhaps early on you could put in an example of how mums are weaning from 5 weeks to illustrate quite how extreme some of them are.

stretchmarkqueen · 03/10/2008 10:29

One of them even said she weaned from 2 weeks! her dad was weaned from birth i think?? Of course he is in perfect health.............
