Today (being still ill and in bed, bored) I have been looking on Babycentre. Interestingly, on some early weaning threads a BC person (not just a mod) has posted giving the correct advice and pointing out the issues. On other birth boards theres a stickied thread on why not to wean early. So obv, they are trying to make sure that the correct advice is out there.

Of course theres still people on the July and August BBs talking about weaning

AnarchyAunt · 02/10/2008 21:30

There is a big sticky on NetMums with the same, and on early weaning threads a moderater will often step in.

I have been researching this for a couple of days now and it all backs up my theory that Bounty are in fact in cahoots with the babyfood companies in some way and that this filters down to the forum.

thumbwitch · 02/10/2008 22:58

and also this

helibee · 02/10/2008 23:47

i've had no response back from them so have emailed again! Can we not contact the papers or WHO or NHS, especially as the NHS give out the bounty packs in their hospitals wouldn't they be interested to know that bounty seem to be happy to disregard enforcing weaning guidelines!

I also want to strangle the mum on those threads who keps saying that they're only guidelines not law aaaaaaarrrrrrrggggggghhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!

AnarchyAunt · 03/10/2008 07:47

I have just sent this...

'I wish to complain about the lack of moderation and removal of some exceptionally dangerous 'advice' being given on this forum.
Most other parenting sites have a 'sticky' at the top of boards, explaining why early weaning is not recommended and giving links to the research and recommendations. They also on several have moderators who come on and repost this information when dangerously early weaning is discussed.

I am at a loss as to understand why Bounty feels it acceptable to allow this potentially harmful advice to be given out. I suspect it is because of the commercial interests of the site, as it is essentially an advertising vehicle for companies, including those as irresponsible as to market babyfood as 'suitable from 4 months' against WHO guidelines.

I think Bounty have a duty towards the babies of those using the site to make sure correct information is given priority. I shall be bringing this to the attention of the DoH as I feel strongly that your tacit approval of this dangerous advice (by allowing it to remain unchallenged by the site) is tantamount to abuse of your position as a respected source of information.'

Oh I think the posters are genuine - but Bounty itself as a company is all about targetting advertising at mothers, not all of it responsible. Like this where they target babyfood advertising at mothers of 3-4 month babies, and boast about their 'success'.

Can't see that they have any motivation for encouraging their members to hold off weaning...

EyeballsintheSky · 03/10/2008 08:29

I've never seen so many stupid, thick, stubborn people on one forum! Well at least I know now where the 'others' go... Some of that is child abuse surely? Seven weeks ffs?DD was still curled up in a little ball wearing scratch mitts at seven weeks! . Keep it up guys. Bounty ought to be pulled until they sort this out. Because of their stupid bags being given out in hospitals of all places, women trust the name. It's not on.

ilovemyflipflops · 03/10/2008 09:00

They are now feeding their babies 'suede' that says it all really

ilovemyflipflops · 03/10/2008 09:08

i think an 'idiots guide to vegetables' is possibly needed..
