Just wondering if anyone is interested in a vegan chat thread , inspired by a reply I gave on another vegan thread ,I don't know any vegans to just chat to.
We are a vegan family, but other than that ,I don't know any vegans,I'm not in any vegan groups.
It's actually a big part of my life ,that I don't really get to talk about at all.
Be nice to chat to any other vegans, especially at night when I often can't sleep

Hey! I have a small baby so I’m awake at night too 😂

We are on our last nap of the day right now before bed I think. It’s such a mad dash to make and eat dinner in the final wake window. I think it’s going to be rice, freezer veg and tofu for dinner… again! What are you planning?

Sorry I didn't see your message,I actually slept well last night ..first time in ages ,so wasn't up chatting on here .
Dinner last night was jacket spuds all round with the bosh pizzas .
Will probably do a roast dinner today as it's Sunday.
Are you planning on bringing baby up vegan ..we were all vegan when my DC were 3/4 years old ,but my mil put huge pressure on me to revert back to vegetarian, and I'm sad I didn't stand up to her and continue being vegan .my DD says it would of been great to of been vegan from 3 .
As it is,my eldest ds went vegan first age 17 , followed by my DD a year later ,then me a year after then my DH a year after and lastly my youngest ds age 14 went vegan ..so we all did it when it felt right for us .I went vegetarian age 12 with a lot of push back from my parents, and DC were vegetarian their whole life and now vegan ..I've been vegan I think 9 years now ,I've lost track a bit

@Springswallow sorry I am only seeing your reply now.

We have a fairly convoluted plan! I am vegetarian from birth and vegan since 2012. My husband is vegan about 10 years.

We want to expose the baby to all allergens in her first year of solids. This will include dairy, eggs and fish (not molluscs for now as that tends to develop later). I’m not willing to do it in the house so my sister has said she will help. Following that, we will raise her vegetarian, but obviously plant based at home. What I want to avoid is her feeling restricted at parties, school treats etc and the gorging when she gets the chance (this was me in 2012 and discovering Oreos!) I am hoping she will then make her own choice at some point. We will talk to her about why we choose now to eat certain foods and show the alternatives we enjoy.

Also, I’m laughing at my last post as we once again had rice, freezer veg and tofu for dinner! I’m craving some noodles but baby is wanting to he held through dinner. I’m really enjoying this time but also looking forward to her weaning (and maybe sitting in her own chair?)

Have you made any good recipes lately?

Mine all made their own choices
I remember in 1998 trying to find a formula milk that didn't have fish oil in .
Eventually I did find one ..it was vile .
But I definitely don't remember any vegan ones ,so probably would of difficult having a vegan bottle fed baby then ..which were when mine were babies ..
So I'm glad mine got to choose for themselves.
No I haven't made any good recipes at all ..
Just the usual ones the family will accept
I need to experiment though, any recommendations??

It is really nice to hear that all your children chose veganism themselves. I hope my daughter does too, but it’s up to her.

I haven’t made anything very interesting. We have been eating so much rice since the baby arrived. It’s so easy to just bung it in the rice cooker but I’m craving variety!

Springswallow · 08/02/2026 13:48

I'm really fussy and don't like rice ..I don't even know how to cook it 😔.
I love tofu though,it's my favourite
