Colgate Total taken off me at airport security

If you’re flying, you might want to think twice about packing Colgate Total. Mine got flagged twice at airport security and was taken off me. The security guy said they’d already had 20 tubes taken off passengers that day! Makes you wonder what we’re actually cleaning our teeth with.

I expect they wear orange 😆. But you won’t see them at T4, because EJ don’t fly from there.

l travel for work and I’m a “lounge girl”; it’s comfortable when I’m on my own and no drunks. The food may not be top cuisine, but neither is it in the overpriced airside chain restaurants and bars.

I flew last week and paid for fast track so I wouldn't have to queue at security. "I've never seen anyone pay" you pre book it so no you wouldn't see anyone paying for it then and there.

You sound like a bit of a snob to be honest. I hate to break it to you, but paying more money doesn't mean you get special or different treatment in terms of the law.

You don’t get EasyJet passengers in the normal queue either. Easyjet don’t fly from Heathrow. Was this just a really long-winded way for you to make sure we all know that you’re so wealthy that you don’t even know what happens at an airport if you’re flying in economy?

If only bombers were aware of that hack to get their explosives onto planes

It's not a law. Every airport makes their own rules. The major airports with a lot of business travellers are usually ahead of the curve. Tourist airports less so.

There is legislation/law underpinning the basics of this, it's not quite a case of airports making their own rules.

What airports can do is impose their own restrictions on top, which have to be at least as stringent as national legislation and they can be tailor local rules to reflect the equipment the airport has in place.....but they must always ensure screening is done to a national standard.

Yep, agreed, I over-simplified. I don't think it's actually law (as in legislation passed by parliament), it's regulations issued by the CAA, and as you say some airports gold-plate it, or haven't invested in the technology to be able to safely adhere to the minimum standards.

FWIW the regs used to come out of the DfT, not the CAA...you sometimes see their inspectors lurking at airports auditing screening.
