So who's booking a UK summer holiday this year?

Can't cope with the uncertainty of another foreign holiday being cancelled so are staying in the UK again this summer. If the media is to believed; demand is very high so am trying to get something booked asap. Have been trawling various cottage sites and there does seem to be quite a lot booked up for August already. Our favoured areas are Northumberland or perhaps the lakes (found 1 place on the Cumbrian coast which would cover both beach & lakes so am tempted). Anyone else? What companies and areas are you trying? Have tried cottages.com, Northumbria Coast & Country & Sykes so far and am getting myself confused!

@Onedropbeat I don't know where you are, but I'd heartily recommend Shropshire as a destination. Not many obvious attractions- but then they might be closed anyway- but lots of country walks and outdoor things to do and not busy even in school holidays.

We went on holiday last August (it was booked in January and we certainly didn’t think Covid would affect the world the way it has) and it was fine - but not as good as it could have been as there were several restrictions in place where we were staying which meant we really didn’t quite get our money’s worth. Therefore we’re not booking this year, we’ll save the money and wait.

We've just booked too OP, a week in Seahouses Northumberland in May, can cancel and get a full refund up until 24 hours before.
Even if pubs/restaurants aren't open by then we will probably still go as it's self catering and there's so many lovely walks around there there doesn't really need to be attractions open.

Anyone able to recommend luxury website for Cornwall and Devon please. Can’t decide if we want hotel or cottage. Do want to be near the coast if possible though. We have a regular week end of August in Lincolnshire.

The best properties I’ve found in Cornwall have been through air bnb. Especially in Padstow.

We've not booked anything as I think we're clinging on to the hope that a last minute holiday abroad in the sun might be an option.

I hated last year when we spent weeks of uncertainty about whether or not our holiday would he cancelled or if we'd get the money back if we couldn't travel because of restrictions etc.

Fortunately we have family in Cornwall and Devon so that's another option if everything is booked up.

Unique homestays

Have used them before and the cottage we stayed in was excellent quality

Thank you!

We're going to play it by ear and wait. No school-age kids, so it may well be September-ish.

Re. Cornwall I found holidaylettings website better than Airbnb for summer availability

PrimalLass · 04/02/2021 16:02

I have an apartment booked in Mallorca but can pay and/or cancel until the week before (July).
More likely we will go and stay in my mum's holiday home about an hour away.

We have a cottage for may school half term booked moved from last year, and have booked a week in pembrokeshire for august too.

Something to look forward to.

We'll only stay at somewhere that's self-catering, then we don't have to worry about too many people! We've booked a holiday at Woolacombe Beach Retreats this summer!

Have booked a hotel in Cornwall in September, but can cancel should needs be.

We’re going to Cornwall (Lizard) for a week in August. A campsite we have been to before. It’s a quiet spot with lovely walks and beaches. No pool or entertainment and the price reflects that. There is a playing field and playground with games room is it rains. We will be sitting by the fire looking at the stars. Cheap and cheerful. Hope to book something last minute for the last week in May when we get confirmation our Netherlands trip will not go ahead.

We have a caravan, so I’ve booked north Wales for spring bank and Norfolk for august. Had to change our Norfolk campsite as rebooked original one three times and have finally had to cancel it as there was no room to rebook for august. I’ve booked refundable / changeable places.

Hoping we might be able to go somewhere warm in October half term or possibly Caribbean at Xmas if the world is on top of COVID, love our caravan but a treat holiday to make up for things wouldn’t go amiss.
