So who's booking a UK summer holiday this year?

Can't cope with the uncertainty of another foreign holiday being cancelled so are staying in the UK again this summer. If the media is to believed; demand is very high so am trying to get something booked asap. Have been trawling various cottage sites and there does seem to be quite a lot booked up for August already. Our favoured areas are Northumberland or perhaps the lakes (found 1 place on the Cumbrian coast which would cover both beach & lakes so am tempted). Anyone else? What companies and areas are you trying? Have tried cottages.com, Northumbria Coast & Country & Sykes so far and am getting myself confused!

Watching with interest.
If money no object coastal retreats is hard to beat in Northumberland or it used to be Grace Darling Holidays is ok but bit less upmarket.

So far booked
Bainland in Lincolnshire hot tub lodge at Easter
Glamping May bank hol
Devon cottage in July
Norfolk cottage in August
Looking for August bank holiday break too.
All refundable if Covid prevents them happening.

Look at Hemera holidays for Northumberland.

LizFlowers · 31/01/2021 18:26

I won't be booking in advance - what would be the point - but if possible, will go away for a few days when the weather is nice, to somewhere fairly easy to get to and self catering.

rosie1959 · 31/01/2021 18:28

Two rebooked from last year
Devon taking the family May half term and Jersey July ( if they will accept tourists)
Plan to book more short breaks as and when possible

Alfaix · 31/01/2021 18:28

The point is that everywhere is really booked up between people moving breaks from last year and people not wanting to go abroad. If you don’t book you may not get anywhere. Up to you though, but we are tied to certain dates so have booked refundable breaks.

We've booked a couple of camping trips but will mostly be staying with family and renting out our family home which is by the beach in Cornwall. I can't believe how quickly the bookings flew in after we advertised it.

theotherfossilsister · 31/01/2021 18:29

We booked Jura at the end of May. No idea if we'll be allowed to go, but hoping so so hard that we can.

Edgeoftheledge · 31/01/2021 18:29

Just booked a UK holiday.

KatyaZamolodchikova · 31/01/2021 18:31

One hot tub pod weekend booked for may bank holiday, moved from last year. We’ve just booked a cottage in Norfolk for August and have our annual east coast weekend booked as we book the same place for the following year whenever we leave.

Not feeling 100% confident for the May one but hopefully ok for August.

NoGoodPunsLeft · 31/01/2021 18:33

We booked may half term in May last year when that one got cancelled, if we can go on that one I'll be happy (very low bar this year Grin)

We might book a week in the summer hols but on air bnb where we can cancel without losing any money. We had a week away in August last year & it was the same time as a storm, the dreadful weather is putting my off booking though TBH. We've always been lucky in May though!

Outdoorsywithgin · 31/01/2021 18:34

Cottage in Wales booked for late July, and a festival type weekend at the end of August.
I was planning on booking some camping, but am in the process of interviewing for jobs so don't want to book too much in.

ilovesooty · 31/01/2021 18:35

I'm supposed to be going to my cousin's postponed birthday party at the beginning of August and have a long weekend away booked in October with my support bubble friend but otherwise have no intention of booking a UK holiday, or not one for a longer period. It's not worth the expense when what I want to do is get away to the sun when it's possible.

GreenClock · 31/01/2021 18:36

West Wales in early August (if English tourists are allowed in) and long weekend in London in early Sept. Both refundable and booked on a credit card for obvious reasons.

polanama · 31/01/2021 18:37

Booked in sept for end of August, great cancellation policy up to 10 days before the trip.

When posters are saying their bookings are refundable, do you mean refundable if you change your mind due to the (then) current situation or are they refundable if you aren't allowed to travel into that area or out of your own?

Ilikewinter · 31/01/2021 18:40

We've booked a week in Dorset in June, have 2 wks off in September, really hope to go somewhere but will wait to book until nearer the time, also not sure where to go yet

All businesses have different criteria The two hotels we are booked with are very flexible

A lot on air bnb just say you can cancel up until a week/2 days/day before (it varies) and get a full refund.
louisejxxx · 31/01/2021 18:50

We’re booked for butlins in Skegness at the end of august Grin (not a very mumsnet thing to do, I’m sure)

LarsErickssong · 31/01/2021 18:59

We're looking at a week somewhere in May, probably Northumberland as we love it and the beaches are incredible but might have a look at a few other places, will only be booking if there is a water tight cancellation policy which I know many places are offering so as to get bookings in Smile

tootiredtospeak · 31/01/2021 19:01

Booked already inland in Northumberland about 10 miles from Alnwick in August and always have a week in a caravan outside mablethorpe last week in July fingers crossed. One of my favourites is Wales and still managed it last August.

TeenPlusTwenties · 31/01/2021 19:04

We have Jersey booked, moved from last year.
Just hoping DD will be well enough to go...

QuantumQuality · 31/01/2021 19:06

Prices seem a lot higher for what’s available. We also like Northumberland coast and lots of where we normally look is booked or what’s left isn’t as nice.

mootymoo · 31/01/2021 19:12

I've booked Italy, I'm an optimist
