So who's booking a UK summer holiday this year?

Can't cope with the uncertainty of another foreign holiday being cancelled so are staying in the UK again this summer. If the media is to believed; demand is very high so am trying to get something booked asap. Have been trawling various cottage sites and there does seem to be quite a lot booked up for August already. Our favoured areas are Northumberland or perhaps the lakes (found 1 place on the Cumbrian coast which would cover both beach & lakes so am tempted). Anyone else? What companies and areas are you trying? Have tried cottages.com, Northumbria Coast & Country & Sykes so far and am getting myself confused!

Booked a week in the West Country during the school summer recess.

Did similar last year pre-COVID as we usually book up every January.

GuyFawkesDay · 31/01/2021 19:16

Kicked last year's booking to this July in Cornwall.

Just booking May half term, not sure where though

@louisejxxx

We’re booked for butlins in Skegness at the end of august Grin (not a very mumsnet thing to do, I’m sure)
The seal sanctuary in skeggy is fabulous!
mechanicalwonder · 31/01/2021 19:17

booked week in Devon for august. .booked it last autumn..I feel confident. .but it is re bookable refundable if necessary.

CMOTDibbler · 31/01/2021 19:21

We have a cottage in Wales booked in August, and will probably camp for a week as well but haven't booked anything

Sleepyquest · 31/01/2021 19:22

I want to book something. Can anywhere suggest somewhere good for a 1 yr old who has never left her county Grin

ritzbiscuits · 31/01/2021 19:24

I have two Lake District breaks booked for June and August. Fully refundable if we can't go.

I'd highly recommend Sally's Cottages in Keswick, mainly covers the North Lake District.

Desperately hoping May is ok as we have two nights at l'Enclume booked for DH's 40th but I'm not getting my hopes up too much.

Will book a summer break at the coast for this summer but with a company we know will allow us to move to holiday if restrictions are in place. I'd rather do that in the slight hope we can get away than be bitter that we didn't if restrictions allow it Grin

ammary · 31/01/2021 19:29

I've got 2 booked that were cancelled last year! One at Easter and one at the end of August that I moved from last October half-term.

I'm not optimistic about the Easter one but I'm hopeful for the August one.

However I'm not necessarily looking forward to it as we went away last August and everywhere was hideously busy because no one was going abroad and it really spoiled it. We never go abroad as we love UK holidays so I was a bit miffed.

HandsomeJack · 31/01/2021 19:30

I booked a cheapy break through the sun holidays for July and I've never been more excited for a holiday!

TitInATrance · 31/01/2021 19:33

I shan’t book a full holiday as most places will be rammed, might manage a few weekends at short notice. I’m flexible enough to take advantage of late cancellations.

or Broadstairs. ..depends where you are. .You don't want too long a journey

Autumn101 · 31/01/2021 19:34

I’ve booked Cornwall for first week in August, crazy money!!

Have a week in Suffolk for Easter too but not sure that one will go ahead......

Places for both didn’t have much availability at all

Groundhogdayzz · 31/01/2021 19:35

I’ve had a look but prices are higher than previous years so assuming it must be because of higher demand. I’m not sure if we can afford to pay the higher prices, really disappointed as like many others, we could really use the break, and previous years we’ve enjoyed fab holidays in Devon and Cornwall.

actiongirl1978 · 31/01/2021 19:36

We are lucky to own a touring caravan on a permanent pitch in Cornwall. So the moment our very small site opens, we will be going.

Last year the owner didn't accept any extra bookings, only permanent pitches were open. It was blissful.

We've booked a week at our favourite place in the Lake District for autumn half term.

I am hugely optimistic and fully expect to be in the pub for May Bank Holiday!

fibeee · 31/01/2021 19:43

I live in NI and have an air b&b booked in ROI for a week on the summer. I really hope we can go.

Booked it a couple of months ago and thought the cost was reasonable. Cleaning fee is obviously higher.

LarsErickssong · 31/01/2021 19:48

@QuantumQuality

Prices seem a lot higher for what’s available. We also like Northumberland coast and lots of where we normally look is booked or what’s left isn’t as nice.
Yes I'm struggling to find something decent but not £££, we normally stay in Beadnall but I've seen a couple of air bnb's in Belford which are reasonable so might end up booking one of those.
HollyBollyBooBoo · 31/01/2021 19:49

Yep we've booked 5 holidays this year all in our caravan. Can cancel with 72 hours notice if we can't go for whatever reason.

CosmicComfort · 31/01/2021 20:03

We booked for this summer in autumn last year. A week in Whitby.

Lovely place we have stayed in before, within walking distance of the town and on the riverside.

Even if all the pubs and restaurants are still closed, I am hopeful we can still wander around and drink gin while watching the world go by😎

Horehound · 31/01/2021 20:03

No way, not booking anything!

applecatchers36 · 31/01/2021 20:07

We have booked a week in Cornwall for August really needed something to look forward to

Throughhistory · 31/01/2021 20:11

For Northumberland, Coquet Cottages are hard to beat: coquetcottages.co.uk

nocturnalke · 31/01/2021 20:16

4 nights booked in a cottage - Norfolk. End of July. Wouldn't dream of booking a holiday abroad though! Our booking is through air bnb and can cancel up until a week before.

EmbMonStu · 31/01/2021 20:29

We booked a holiday on the beach in Cornwall on the way home from our Norfolk holiday last year! It was so lovely and things so uncertain we decided to stick to UK again. Also got some camping booked. Have
Holland booked for Easter and Lapland for December - am guessing Holland may have to be rebooked but hope to do it in October half term.
