Time for another spooky stories thread?

I know how much I enjoyed reading previous scary story threads so thought I'd start another and start with my own.

Now I always thought I had imagined this but after meeting up with my sister last week and getting on to this found out she remembers this too.

We both had a friend in the village who lived in a long house with an old barn out back, looked fairly normal had a ladder in the middle which took you up to the top level and the roof had a roof light window in it. Anyway this friend told us it was haunted and we thought she was having us on until she knocked on the door and an almighty bang answered, this kept happening. Then once it had stopped stuff started flying out of the roof window! Old sacks and old stove kettles etc! We were so scared but went in and no one was in there just totally empty. We then went in the house and said to friends mum and she said it must have been her dad but her dad was in the living room!

Needless to say I've never forgotten this and my sister obviously hasn't either.

So now I've started anyone else want to add any??

I'm a writer and I just approached it as if it were a story someone had asked me to critique, as far as I can remember. Some posters found it hilarious, but it was basic Creative Writing 101 stuff. Like the fact that there was a howling gale but the sleeping OP still heard her DH screaming some distance away outside. That somehow the mysterious Tristan also heard the scream from inside the house and yet got dressed and booted and out through the snow before the much nearer OP did. That surely if you came across a total stranger, even a hospitable one called Tristan with camping pods, standing over your husbands unconscious body in the snow in the middle of the night, your response would at least potentially consider him as an assailant and not to let him and his brother take your DH away out of your sight to 'warm him up'? And how unusual a marriage is it that the OP is apparently fine with her DH not breathing a hint of what happened to his wife, but spills to Tristan? Etc etc. And -which everyone said - what the hell is a camping pod??? Grin

Hotpatootietimewarp · 27/09/2015 08:15

Haha, actually now you say that it's quite obvious but I think because it was quite scary i wanted to believe it was real!

A camping pod is like a little wooden hut that sleeps 2 people and that's it you can only sleep in it I think they are used for 'glamping' Grin

camping pods

Hotpatootietimewarp · 27/09/2015 08:22

Yep they're the ones!

Re the Tristan and Molly camping pod story, I think the MNer first posted her spooky story on a woo thread sometime in the Spring, but said she and her DH - and DC - were returning to Scotland to stay with Tristan and Molly during the October half-term. Apparently Tristan had done some delving and found out more about the ghastly happening, which he was going to tell her DH while they were staying there. That year October half-term coincided with Halloween, so she had obviously had a long term plan for a Halloween denouement. On a different thread, she started to tell part of the story, then said she had to go an deal with an unwell child (or something) and that she'd return later in the evening with the 'big reveal'. That was the point that Liomsa took it all apart and she was never seen again.

Hotpatootietimewarp · 27/09/2015 08:39

Amazing? Might we be seeing it in a book sometime soon??!

OP posts:
Hotpatootietimewarp · 27/09/2015 08:39

Or a horror movie plot?!

99percentchocolate · 27/09/2015 09:01

More stories please!

StillStayingClassySanDiego · 27/09/2015 09:16

It was just the way Liom tore the story apart. I've never 'spat tea over the keyboard' as some posters profess to do with a funny thread but I laughed my head off, such a shame it went 'puff'

When I was younger I had a weekend job in a national trust type house that was open to the public. The family who owned it lived there too, and bits of the house were off limits to everyone else.

Many times we were asked on the radio to evict visitors from the families living room. All the floors were wooden and it was echoey, so voices could be heard from halfway down the hall with the door closed if anyone was in there. Often people had spotted the comfy sofas and didn't notice the signs saying private. A few of us found it completely empty despite hearing voices before opening the door.

We had a few film crews filming there too. On one occasion a lot of extras wandering around in period clothing were spotted where they shouldnt have been. After the director recieved a complaint he told us he didn't have anyone in costume that day. Maybe some of the houses previous inhabitants were interested in filmmaking.

Does anyone remember the story about a guy in a nightclub? It was about how the op saw a guy there, many years later she went back and he was there looking exactly the same with a very angry expression? I can't remember the details but it sent a shiver down my spine reading it.

Dionysuss · 27/09/2015 09:31

This place has (or used to have) a photo album of pictures sent by visitors with woo things in them taken in the grounds. Several were similar, despite being taken by different people years apart. Most of them had been seen by staff too.

Dionysuss · 27/09/2015 09:32

I remember that izza, was he in 70s Saturday night garb? I remembered that when I read the start of the thread yesterday.

This happened about 10, maybe more years ago when I lived at home with my parents. I was in the bathroom brushing my teeth one night getting ready for bed. The mirror faced the bathroom door which I had open meaning I could see the landing wall reflected in it behind me. Anyway my Mum was in bed and so as my brother and my dad was downstairs watching TV, but I heard the floorboards on the landing creeking as if someone was walking on them and then I saw, in the mirror the shadow shape of a person moving across the landing wall until it was out of view. I coulndt tell you if it was male or female.

Now, if my mum or brother had got up for some reason I'd have heard their doors opening and I'd have heard my dad coming upstairs. It was absolutey terrifying and I was rooted to the spot for ages. Sometime later I read about shadow people and now wonder if this is what I saw?

Rubylee87 · 27/09/2015 09:54

Does anyone remember the really creepy story someone told on here ages ago about some people who were followed home by a tall, thin, sinister figure which peered through the top of their hall window? It was horrible and reminded me of Slender Man!

I have two spooky stories:

The first happened a few years ago, right after my grandmother had died. I was particularly sad because her death had been very sudden and I hadn't seen her for a while. I felt like I'd not had the chance to say goodbye.

She passed away after a heart attack on a Sunday and the following weekend, I was staying at my then boyfriend's house. He lived in a small remote village and we knew everyone there. I was out walking one morning when a beautiful, pure-white cat with blue eyes came up to me and sat right in front of me at my feet. I had never seen this cat before and I knew most of the dogs/cats in the village by sight because we used to walk the dog a lot and see them on our travels. I never saw it again after that day. Seeing the cat gave me a sense of comfort because many years before, my grandmother had owned a pure white cat with blue eyes just like this one and it was loved by all the family and associated with her.

Later on that night, I was in my boyfriend's room. He was in the shower and I was watching TV. Suddenly, his stereo system came to life and started playing out a really loud, static sound. It lasted for about a minute then turned off. It had never happened before and it never happened again. I like to think she was there, saying goodbye.

The second story happened when I was a teenager and I had to do a project on the local area for school. Several years before, there had been a tragic accident near a park that I often visited. It was a rural area and some teenagers who had been riding motorbikes on the dirt tracks had crashed and died.
I went down there with a friend and we were taking photographs of the area to include it in the project. We were standing around chatting, when for a split second, I saw the pale outline of a person behind my friend. They were wearing a green jumper and they put their arm on my friend's shoulder. I called out and she turned round but it was gone. It happened so quickly that I often wonder if it was a ghost or whether my mind was playing tricks on me.

When my sister moved into her new flat in a tower block, I remember disliking it. The lift had an extension at the back someone told me was for coffins, so maybe that is why I got bad vibes. I was ten.

My Dad and I drove there to drop off a chair, kettle and snacks one evening, it was for my sister as she had to wait in the following day for the carpets being delivered. We forgot something and my Dad asked me to wait in the flat while he fetched it from the van.

I remember being alone in the empty room with the street lights shining in and slowly feeling as though I was being smothered. I was so afraid but I couldn't breathe or cry out, I could even move and I was sure I was going to die.

I heard a crash from the hall, and suddenly I could move again. It was my Dad, he said he had been in the lobby when he has suddenly felt I was in danger and had run up the stairs and back into the flat.

My sister moved in a month later and nothing woo happened for the two years she lived there.

I don't really believe in stuff like this, but I remember not being able to breathe and it was nothing like a panic attack, definitely like being smothered. And even if it was all in my head, how did my Dad know I needed him?

originalmavis · 27/09/2015 09:56

What's a shadow person? In our old house we were always seeing 'people' out of the corner of your eye then no one being there. Especially one window on a path down the side of the house - no where to go but the back door - you'd see someone walk past the window...
And nothing! No one came through the door or passed back by the window.

OhWotIsItThisTime · 27/09/2015 09:57

Dgm dog would howl at the top of the stairs and refused to go any further. Dm always said it was haunted.

Ruby I remember the stick man/slender man story on here. Someone walking home with a friend late one night and they say like an 8ft tall stick man in the street. They ran to their house and it chased them and looked through the glass in the hall door at them!

Rubylee87 · 27/09/2015 10:08

Yes that's the story. It freaked me out when I read it!

Chillyegg · 27/09/2015 10:09

Oooooo I've got two

So my mums ex husband used to be a postman/delivery type guy, Anyway he was delivering a parcel to a very old house. The house had a well he was absolutely shattered it was snowing and he was walking to his van. He looked and saw a little boy waving to him at the edge of the well. The boy was playing on top of the well, annd My mums ex husband waved back to the boy. As quick as that the boy then jumped into the well, then apparently my step dad legged it to the well only to find the water frozen.

My gran used to work in a care home one morning he was hanging out some washing and she looked up and saw one the patients called frank waving down to her from his window. She waved back like she always did, it took her a few minutes to realise what had happened as frank had died the night before.
