Time for another spooky stories thread?

I know how much I enjoyed reading previous scary story threads so thought I'd start another and start with my own.

Now I always thought I had imagined this but after meeting up with my sister last week and getting on to this found out she remembers this too.

We both had a friend in the village who lived in a long house with an old barn out back, looked fairly normal had a ladder in the middle which took you up to the top level and the roof had a roof light window in it. Anyway this friend told us it was haunted and we thought she was having us on until she knocked on the door and an almighty bang answered, this kept happening. Then once it had stopped stuff started flying out of the roof window! Old sacks and old stove kettles etc! We were so scared but went in and no one was in there just totally empty. We then went in the house and said to friends mum and she said it must have been her dad but her dad was in the living room!

Needless to say I've never forgotten this and my sister obviously hasn't either.

So now I've started anyone else want to add any??

I've spent literaly weeks reading this thread!

One evening, somewhere in the middle of the thread, DH was out and DD was playing quitely. Suddenly, there was this manacial laughter! I freaked. Turned out it was DD playing with a minion toy from a happy meal - she's not allowed to use it when DH is home because he doesn't like the noise.

It's a good thing I'm not woo, otherwise I'd think I lived in a haunted house. All sorts of odd things happen. I have to turn the kettle off at the wall switch, as it keeps coming on randomly. "Life-time" lightbulbs last a few weeks in certain sockets. (Yes, we're getting an electrician by - but they are so booked it is taking forever!) Just yesterday a smoke alarm went off for no apparent reason (can't be part of the larger electrical issue, since it is battery-powered). TV occasionally comes on/goes off/resets. Baby monitor occasionally randomly turns off or tries to switch to 2nd camera not plugged in - which means it starts beeping error (again, battery powered). My imagination is also great at thinking I've seen something odd 'just a moment ago' in the monitor. My alarm clock occasionally goes bonkers. And it's not all electrical - things fall off shelves with some regularity. My binoculars fell off a shelf as I was in the room with them, and broke :(

Also, I've wondered why the people who lived here moved out - they only moved one town away, and the husband clearly did not want to sell. Definitely the wife who did. Although we know the house they bought, as it was one we saw on the market and didn't even look at, as it was twice our budget. They did have two kids sleeping in one room, so may have wanted a larger place to give them their own rooms. That's what I tell myself :)

But for some reason, despite being easily scared by threads like this and having a fully wootastic imagination, I have absolute confidence everything can be explained by some reasonable thing, even if I don't know what it is. No idea why, but happy that I'm not scared! Pissed about the binoculars, though.

Hi all - we're going to pop this over to The Unexplained shortly.

I have a couple. Not brill but true- happened to me, a sceptical not particularly woo person.
Firstly, when I was about 11, me and a friend were walking down a field into the woods. On our way there were dead mice every now and again, all facing towards the woods. As we got to maybe 50 yards from the woods one dead mouse was facing away from the woods and without saying a word we both turned around and ran away. I just felt this overwhelming fear and feeling that I had to get out if there.

Second story... my mum died when I was 16. For the week after she died every night I awake at the exact time I was born.

Third story- when I was about 13 me and three friends were walking down a green lane that joins two villages. 2 of them were walking ahead and me and the other friend were lagging behind (young love!) We saw what can only be described as a big black cat. At first I thought it was a dog but it's tail was definitely that of a cat... Further to this my cousin was camping in my other cousins garden. He says he woke in the night and knew there was something predatory outside of the tent and that he had to stay really still. He doesn't know what it was but he knew it was hunting.

My other experience is more recent (I posted it on a separate thread on here) I was heavily pregnant and heard a hill toy playing a song my mum used to hum to me as a child. I had no toys in the living room, and the only musical one we have doesn't play that tune. I've heard it a couple of times since and still can't explain it. Dh thinks I'm going mad!!

All the others I have are of family members, will post soon.

mrsatkinson - I had a similar experience to you in Spain (in between Malaga and Gibraltar that coastline, well me and the boyfriend at that time had been to the supermarket and stopped off, at a small village, a shop can't recall what - had a little wander, saw a big deserted Spanish farmhouse (didn't look as if Brits owned it) and there were dead rats littered all the way round the front garden area (or in the 'drive') quite newly killed ones too. We couldn't work out if they were cat killed or shot (didn't seem poisoned) they were littered around about 7-8 rats but spread out. House seemed deserted and looked a bit spooky. We legged it too.

When i went to visitmy cousin in London a few years ago,she had an upstairs flat.I was to sleep in with the girls.Anyway the minute i walked in i knew there was something off about the room.
I said it to her and she said the previous tenant tried to kill him self by setting fire to the room.He didnt succeed but i could never sleep in that room.I ended up downstairs on her couch.

Few years later she tells me her kids used to wake up and say there was something in her room. The top of her stairs where very foreboding as well.If you where at teh bottom you could swear there was someone at the top,in the shadows.

I have so many.
I had been swimming with the school, when i got home my mum popped to the shops and my dad was at work. I stood at the bottom of the stairs to put my earrings back in infront of the mirror. I heard a noise coming from upstairs. The noise got louder. It was a squeaky kind of noise. The noise took my attention to the landing light. Then i could see the bulb was turning, that is what the squeaking was. Then it fell to the floor. I ran out of the house and waited next door until mum came home.

My mums story which i found out when i left home:
She was home alone. In the living room watching tv. She heard a lot of banging coming from upstairs as if things were being thrown about. She went to the bottom of the stairs to listen closer. The nosie came from the upstairs bathroom. The banging stopped for a second and then sounded like someone racing along the landing. She said the stamps sounded so heavy. She started back towards the back door and the stamping started racing down the stairs.
She ran out of the house and didnt go back in until she wasnt alone.

OnTheEdgeToday · 10/11/2015 22:31

Just to add - no one was visible on the stairs and there wasnt a thing out of place upstairs.

Place marking for later
