Time for another spooky stories thread?

Hotpatootietimewarp · 26/09/2015 13:51

I know how much I enjoyed reading previous scary story threads so thought I'd start another and start with my own.

Now I always thought I had imagined this but after meeting up with my sister last week and getting on to this found out she remembers this too.

We both had a friend in the village who lived in a long house with an old barn out back, looked fairly normal had a ladder in the middle which took you up to the top level and the roof had a roof light window in it. Anyway this friend told us it was haunted and we thought she was having us on until she knocked on the door and an almighty bang answered, this kept happening. Then once it had stopped stuff started flying out of the roof window! Old sacks and old stove kettles etc! We were so scared but went in and no one was in there just totally empty. We then went in the house and said to friends mum and she said it must have been her dad but her dad was in the living room!

Needless to say I've never forgotten this and my sister obviously hasn't either.

So now I've started anyone else want to add any??

i didn't ask my colleague anything about it. She was lovely but more than a little annoyed that I stayed in the flat for such a short space of time (3mths in all). She retired soon after anyway.

I've since tried to google the address to see if anything comes up, but no hits.

Panadbois · 01/10/2015 22:38

I will not sleep easy tonight......

ScreamingNotWaving · 01/10/2015 23:37

My DH and I have lived in this house since the early 90s. We bought it from the old couple that built it in the 40s. It's built on an old orchard, so there's never been any other building here. It has always felt so warm, welcoming and so very ours.

Over the years, we've extended the house from a flat rectangular 2-up, 2-down to a much larger L shape, creating a very different layout of walls and rooms to the original.

I've seen people walking around, mostly fleeting and out of the corner of my eye since the day we moved in but have always just 'turned a blind eye' or found rational explanations. The shadows are usually walking around in rooms that we've built.

A few days ago, I was laying on my daughter's bed, chatting to her whilst she sat in her chair when I saw the shadow of my husband flick across the landing. It was him, no doubt in my mind at all. A few seconds later, I heard a noise downstairs which concerned me as I knew we were all upstairs. I said to my DD, 'Who's that downstairs?' And she said 'Daddy, silly!' So I said I've just seen him walk across the landing...she laughed and said, 'that wasn't the real Daddy, I see you both walking about all the time but you're not really there.'

UnderTheGreenwoodTree · 02/10/2015 00:20

Nothing to see here, just placemarking Smile

FattyNinjaOwl · 02/10/2015 00:24

OK...lots of weird things happening at mine. My plug sockets have been flicking themselves off. I sat and watched it happen as well. I thought I had it turned on to use my hairdryer. It wasn't so I thought nothing if it, flicked it on and started to dry my hair. Any way. My DD got up so I went to put her back to bed, came back and it was switched off! So I've flicked it back on again and it flicked off again before I turned the hairdryer on. So I thought maybe it's faulty and moved downstairs, thinking I would have to get it checked. It happened downstairs too. Confused

Then Netflix started fast forwarding itself (its on the Xbox and the Xbox controller was turned off so it can't have been someone sat on it!) Then I rewound it back to where I was and it did it again. So I had to put it back again. I don't know why but something isnt quite right here at the minute.

FattyNinjaOwl · 02/10/2015 00:34

And now my phone is writing stuff. Not just autocorrect, its constructing entire fucking sentences. Confused

FattyNinjaOwl · 02/10/2015 00:40

Someone give me a logical explanation please????

FattyNinjaOwl · 02/10/2015 01:42

Anyone? Weird shit has stopped but I don't want to go sleep Confused Blush
I need looking after..

tomatodizzy · 02/10/2015 02:03

FattyNinjaOwl · 02/10/2015 02:05

I've just had to literally run to the loo before I peed the bed Blush but I really didn't want to get out/in case there was a monster haha!

tomatodizzy · 02/10/2015 02:51

You need to get the kitten onto that task. They are great ghost/monster hunters Smile

dustarr73 · 02/10/2015 06:42

ScreamingnotWaving i wonder what the people who look like you really are.I said earlier i seen my son and then 2 seconds later he walks up the stairs.I think that freaked me out more that all the other stuff that happened to me.

Hotpatootietimewarp · 02/10/2015 07:04

FattyNinjaOwl · 02/10/2015 07:34

tomato the kitten sleeps in the kitchen, but he was screaming/miaowing all night. My phone turned off and wouldn't turn back on last night. Then when it did turn back on the baby got up and did a massive shit all over himself. Sad
Then my phone decided the battery was low and it was going to beep at me for trying to use if. So I put it on charge. I fell asleep for a bit, but I had less than 30 minutes all together. Sad

EponasWildDaughter · 02/10/2015 08:10

I've had 4 or 5 very odd things happen to me (and i've told them all on past woo threads), but the one i like to tell best happened to one of my old friends - J - when she was about 10. It's the most bizare thing:

J and her younger brother, A, grew up in a 60's council house in West London. She and her bro' shared the back bedroom. Every night J would hear something in the early hours making it's way slowly up the stairs and on to the landing. It would cross the landing and stop outside the bedroom door for a while before going slowly back down.

Creepy enough - but there's more:

J asked her mum about this (and was told not to be silly), but never mentioned it to A, as she didn't want to scare him. She assumed he didn't hear it. One night though, after the shuffling had gone back down the stairs, A whispered in the dark to J that he needed the loo, and was it safe to go now? J was amazed that he had heard the thing - and she decided to go and peep. Creeping out on to the dark landing, she couldn't see anything, so gathered the courage to look over the banisters ...

She could see into the kitchen down in the darkness. Some light was coming through the glass of the back door. Against the light she could see the silhouette of a figure. It was the size of a man, but very bent over, odd and crooked looking. The thing was bent over the vegetable rack and had something in it's hands and was biting down into it hard!! As she watched it turned slowly towards her. Needless to say she legged it back across the landing shut the door and shot into bed. She told her brother to stay where he was!

The noises continued every night until they moved house a year or two later. J's brother is in his early 40s now and still remembers that house and his sisters terror that night.

These are brilliant, some are giving me real goosebumps!

I've got a couple of unexplained stories.

One was the Christmas after my Nanna had died in the November, I was only about 11. The family gathered at my aunt's house and we had a group photo in front of the Christmas tree, set on a timer. When the photo was developed, you could clearly see a figure transposed where the Christmas tree was in the centre of the shot. It appeared to be wearing a distinctive black and white jacket, with a jagged, lightning-type division between the colours. That was the suit jacket my Nanna was buried in. Think it was lovely that she was there for everyone getting together. We wondered if it was the photos developed getting transposed but no, we didn't have any photos of her in that outfit on that roll.

The other thing was when my dh (then dp) was working in a bar, so often back late in the night. I was fully asleep, and then half woke when I felt a man leaning over my bed. I thought it was my dp, coming home, murmured something about did he have a good night, rolled over and went back to sleep. Only to wake a bit later, very confused, when he actually came home. I hadn't felt panicked or menaced in any way, but it was definitely a man.

A policeman knocked on the door a week or so later, and I'm not sure it's related but the incidents go together in my head. He said he was just there checking everything was OK, but didn't seem to be indicating a particular incident. I was in my dressing gown so just got rid of him, even though he seemed to want to come in. He vaguely said he'd call back, but never did, and I later doubted that he was a police officer at all, due to his odd style of questioning and general demeanour. The only thing creepier than a male ghost leaning over my bed at night is the idea that it was a flesh and blood stranger!

thecatsarecrazy · 02/10/2015 08:26

I was reading this thread in the bath the other night, my dh was at work boys in bed. After a while I was getting spooked and thought that's enough now I will watch a bit of tv and go to bed. We have a b.t box but only use it for freeview now and recording things. When I put tv on it had frozen on a channel that I'm sure I hadn't left it on and a program called the haunting was on Shock. There was no picture just the writing up telling you what is on. I Couldn't get rid of it. Managed to get it to bbc1 and somehow it went back on the other channel.

99percentchocolate · 02/10/2015 08:55

Saw this picture and thought of you all. Don't think I want to sit on that chair...

MerdeAlor · 02/10/2015 09:30

99 I've opened that photo twice and had to close it because I'm shit scared. Subsequently I haven't seen what's in the photo.
Can you describe it for me pretty please great big jessy that I am

UnderTheGreenwoodTree · 02/10/2015 09:39

I looked at the photo and thought it might be a screamer at first - but then I saw it. It's under the cushion. Wink

MissMarpleCat · 02/10/2015 10:08

Great picture.
How are you now fatty?? I hope you can nap today when the baby sleeps.
Has the weirdness happening in your home calmed down?

FattyNinjaOwl · 02/10/2015 10:11

Nothing weird so far today. As for a nap, I have an nearly 9 week old, and a 21 month old who refuses to nap Sad my kitten still seems spooked though.

MissMarpleCat · 02/10/2015 10:23

Oh bless you, you must be knackered Flowers
Is woo stuff a regular occurrence in your home? Can you either go stay with someone for a couple of nights, or someone stay with you so you can get some sleep?

FattyNinjaOwl · 02/10/2015 10:43

It's fairly regular, but nothing like this. It's usually just a crying baby and a "hoovering" lady (mentioned upthread) in this house. Old house had loads of stuff. But this is not normal for here. And I've been here 6 years so why now? I've been trying to think of a logical explanation, but I saw the switch flick itself off! And I didn't type what my phone was trying to type (if that makes sense!)

MissMarpleCat · 02/10/2015 10:59

Christ, that sounds horrible Sad
It could be connected to your newborn. I don't want to scare you (anymore than you already are) but I watched a programme about the paranormal and when the (live) baby came into the home the (spirit baby, like you have) started all sorts of activity. A psychic came and helped the spirit baby pass over, she said it wasn't the house as such, but the land. The spirit baby wanted to be acknowledged. I know that sounds bonkers, but I believe in such things, as I suspect you do.
