Old fashioned pony names

I'm going to look at a Welsh A tomorrow, indulge me with some old fashioned names for a grey mare.

I'm not a fan of Elsa/Princess type names. She is registered but nothing springs out of it that I like - so far I like Bounty, Coco(nut), Snowmane (Snowy)...

I had a Dougal but I always loved the name Merrylegs out of Black Beauty. He was a little grey, Merry for short.

My best mate when I was a teen had a grey Welsh x Arab mare , and she was beautiful . Dark grey with radiating paler dapples . She was gorgeous . She had some fantastically long 27 syllable show name , but was always known as Apple the dapple.

We had a Twinkle at our yard back when I was a kid.

@CosmicVagina

The Welsh was gorgeous but a bit jumpy and I'm looking for something for a toddler.

I also looked at a spotted shetland type, she was v sweet and well behaved. She fills the brief but now I'm having cold feet about taking on a second horse (I've had mine for 17 years - she's part of the furniture)

That's a shame, welshies can be a bit feisty though, I had two lovely shetlands as a young child a chestnut mare called Gypsy and a chestnut gelding called Jim. They were lovely natured ponies and not stereotypical shetlands. If you're having second thoughts it might be best waiting until your child's a bit older anyway, they are hard work for a half hour toddle out when you can find the time.

First Shetland pony I rode in the early 1970s was Dandy who was as wide as he was tall.
Then Cola, then Rip Van Winkle who spent his whole life snoozing apart from Bending races when he would absolutely fly.
Breeze was a very beautiful palomino.
Blaze was another popular name back in the olden days.
Feeling very nostalgic now.
