Old fashioned pony names

I'm going to look at a Welsh A tomorrow, indulge me with some old fashioned names for a grey mare.

I'm not a fan of Elsa/Princess type names. She is registered but nothing springs out of it that I like - so far I like Bounty, Coco(nut), Snowmane (Snowy)...

I came in to say Gwen but your not after that sort of old fashioned.

Misty would be a classic, I think

SmidgenofaPigeon · 31/03/2021 15:46

Aw Misty is such a classic.

I learnt to on ride a Welsh A called Totty. I went back to see her a couple of years ago. She was 33 when I last saw her. Such a beautiful girl.

Wagsandclaws · 31/03/2021 15:56

We had a Welshie called Brandy, he was a little shit and we adored him.

Myshinynewname · 31/03/2021 15:58

SmidgenofaPigeon · 31/03/2021 16:00

Oh! I just remembered the other Welshie at the stables was called Gladys, and she was a grey mare too.

Heyha · 31/03/2021 16:00

Misty, Silver, Cloud, Cobweb...this is way more fun than the baby name threads although you've given a better brief than a lot of those do too 😂

Basicbitching · 31/03/2021 16:02

I used to ride one called candy..she was a beauty!

NeverTrustaRabbit · 31/03/2021 16:03

Was also going to say Misty - must be the most popular name for a Section C/D😂

maxelly · 31/03/2021 16:08

What is she called /nicknamed at the moment, I take it you are rejecting the old horseman's superstition about renaming horses being bad luck Grin ?

I think nature-inspired names are nice for Welshies/little ponies, things like Holly, Rowan, Berry, Seren/Star, Luna, Fern, Sky, Willow, Robin, Poppy, Rose/Rosie, Lily? Or old-lady/milkmaid-ish names, I've known ponies called Polly, Molly, Dotty, Dora, Trudy, Queenie, Maggie, Bunty, Nellie, Bessie, Jenny, that kind of name?

Or along the Bounty/Coconut theme, maybe Polo, Minty, Candy, Snow(y), Alba (means white in Latin), Bianca (Bee for short?), Cloud, Daisy, Pearl? The only thing that would make me hesitate on choosing a too 'white' name would be if she's anything like most little ponies she'll be more of a fetching shade of green-brown most of the time!

KitchenWarrior · 31/03/2021 16:08

Dapple, Shadow, Snowy - all welshies I have fond memories of.

Can't go wrong with Misty too!

I agree with pp, this is much better than a baby name thread!

Teesel · 31/03/2021 16:08

My grey pony was called Sharon Grin

Ha, love Sharon, what a great name! I also had a childhood Poppet, he was anything but unfortunately, and also a Gold, short for Good-As, again both named with a certain hint of sarcasm Grin
Starrylight · 31/03/2021 16:11

Pearl, Crystal, Winter, Dawn, Lightening, Trigger

countrygirl99 · 31/03/2021 16:11

Merrylegs

IndiaMay · 31/03/2021 16:13

I always thought if I had a horse I'd name it Drummer, like Christina's in Flambards. I vote Drummer.

Other options could be Grey, Misty, Treasure, Dolly, Missy, Nala

FruitBadger · 31/03/2021 16:13

Pippin?
