You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

Do not give the staffroom password to non-staff as it attracts the wrong sort of crowd.

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation. Do not sit on the chairs and do wear a mask

Kevan was very sensible to point that out though. Surely the government won’t extend the school day/ year? If only because, as you imply, they would have to pay staff more!

So very tired tonight. Behaviour was poor, paperwork was piled high, and my fuse is increasingly short.

If they do extend the school day I don't know how I would cope. I'm doing 11-12 hour days as it is.

JanFebAnyMonth · 19/05/2021 21:00

Parents United have posted their current list of UK schools with cases. Couldn’t link unfortunately. It’s only what people have told them about so not comprehensive.

cornercupboard · 19/05/2021 21:02

Thoroughly pissed off and knackered here. I've been getting into school for 7.50 and leaving at 3.45 mostly to battle with the fecking useless new printing system and Windows 10/Office 365. I don't use Windows or Office myself at home, and it all seems so pointlessly complicated. Seven steps to do one thing, type of thing. SLT have picked more leaves off the magic money tree and bought android tablets for each class, to replace the knackered old digital cameras that we use to take photos for tick box exercise stuff, but these tablets have not been set up to print, so they are useless. Helpfully, the IT bod says that the inbuilt camera will not work and we must download a camera app. Eh??????
Had a supply teacher this morning. Poor woman. They were vile to her.

ChloeDecker · 19/05/2021 21:26

Why is everyone a ‘Tsar’ these days?! Usually people who haven’t sent foot in classrooms for yonks.

They all need to back right off and let us continue teaching our lessons in the normal hours that we have, with as few ‘extras’ on top of that so we can all (pupils included) get back on track.

If they didn’t give us so much extra crap to deal with (TAGs anyone!?) then we would be spending all that energy on the pupils instead. As it is, we are all running on empty and certain year groups are being neglected as a consequence.

All the more reason to plan the Revolution. comrades....

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 19/05/2021 21:57

I told my class today that there would be no D&T on Friday unless they could prove they could be safe. Funnily enough, no shit today at all. Even my part time Bob pulled it out the bag for the hour or so he was in.

So, they CAN do it.

ArnottsUnderpass · 19/05/2021 22:04

So tired. So, so tired. Another 12hr work day.

More moderation hell tomorrow 😭😭😭

Its like the world's shittest never ending roundabout.

Just realised when DD finishes Y11 on Fri I’ll have to start collecting or ordering LFTs for her...

Do Tsars head up taskforces, because everything seems to need a task force too.

Enlightening conversation by the kids about behaviour on the bus home this evening. Let’s just say the kids are well aware of nothing actually happening when they behave badly and that saying your mental health is bad because of the pandemic is an acceptable excuse for not turning up to lessons.

I think that thread is due a Damascene conversion imminently.

Some of us have been waiting a while, born.....

HobnobbingAboutHobnobs · 19/05/2021 23:12

I'm paying the price for enjoying my weekend - marking papers and cannot stop until finished. And my HOD is insisting on breakdown of marks (m1, a1 etc) so it's taking twice as long as usual. Tomorrow will be fun... 😴

SquashedFlyBiscuits · 20/05/2021 00:27

Done for the day and bloody knackered.

We have dt next week. It is cooking. Think I might borrow your threat @RuleWithAWoodenFoot one of those days where behaviour was vile and felt like the cheapest teacher ever. Roll on half term.

SquashedFlyBiscuits · 20/05/2021 00:28

*crappest

namechangedyetagain · 20/05/2021 02:53

I had one of those days too, which is why I'm awake at this hour. Cancelled pe as behaviour was so bad I couldn't trust them to be safe. Had a 'I'm so sad and disappointed' moan at them.

Feel like the crappiest student ever.

motherrunner · 20/05/2021 05:38

Media paving the way for the shit storm of TAGs - apparently we are biased and results will be unfair.

www.bbc.co.uk/news/education-57178473

Fucking joke. We are on our news with assessing and marking, moderating and ranking. And usually the bloody kids would have left by now! And we’re not being paid for exam marking.

motherrunner · 20/05/2021 05:40

The study was done in Russia in a small sample but apparently it’s worthy of being in the top stories on the BBC - leave us alone!

Oh for gods sake. We anonymised the exam papers to avoid this. I’ve spend the last month marking bloody papers. We have loads of data to use to grade the kids.

ChloeDecker · 20/05/2021 06:41

The media can fuck off too quite frankly!

Piggywaspushed · 20/05/2021 06:49

It's all a big conspiracy to never ever consider whether the (biased) exam system is fit for purpose. If we are biased towards agreeable pupils, they will experience this bias throughout school and do better in exams.

SquashedFlyBiscuits · 20/05/2021 07:14

@namechangedyetagain it is not you! Really, really not.

Government caught the flak last year so they’re ensuring schools and teachers catch it this year. Funny how they learn from some mistakes but not from others, though I’m sure they’ll try to blame schools for the rise in infections among young people rather than their own (repeated) misguided policies.
