You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

Do not give the staffroom password to non-staff as it attracts the wrong sort of crowd.

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation. Do not sit on the chairs and do wear a mask

Agreed. I'd have preferred the pfizer but was happy to take what I was given if it means I'm on the way to being vaccinated.
Most of my fellow 40 something colleagues are being vaccinated this weekend or during the week. That means nearly every staff member I come into contact with, apart from two 30 year olds, are all now vaccinated. Its a good feeling.

@DollyMixtureLulus

I quite fancy cross stitch. What do you do when you’ve finished the pattern?
I fancied cross stitch in January so bought two kits (two because I couldn’t decide between them). I don’t know what you do with any patterns as I never actually started them. This is what always happens with me and crafts.
DanglingMod · 15/05/2021 16:46

Good news re all the new jabees Wink

My retail therapy is much the same as everyone else here: books, plants, dresses, shoes (flats); books being the majority by far.

MrsHamlet · 15/05/2021 18:09

Popping in to say hi. I've now marked 136/220 assessments. I have no marking left until the next lot arrives.
I've earned alcohol haven't I?!

Depends on the design. If it's one I might do again (a wedding or birth sampler for eg) or one I know a friend would like I keep it. In fact, if I know I'm keeping the pattern, I photocopy it first and work from the copy to keep the original in good condition!
HobnobbingAboutHobnobs · 15/05/2021 18:22

Just realised you were probably talking about cross stitch itself, oops! I usually frame them and give them away.

In spades! GrinWine

ChloeDecker · 15/05/2021 18:44

@DrMadelineMaxwell

Vaccinated, finally. Phew.
Bloody marvellous! It’s a scandal how long it has taken some to get vaccinated for the first dose that should have been ages ago. Put your well deserved feet up.

Where do you find your dresses with pockets? I love a good pocket.

HercwasanEnemyofEducation · 15/05/2021 18:59

Lola Seasalt, fat Face, joules, popsy are good for pockets.

Most definitely! Well done - sounds horrendous.

I am making my way through my gin stash whilst cooking dinner. No work today, but received a lovely, appreciative email from a parent that actually made me feel a bit teary.

HarrietDVane · 15/05/2021 19:24

@LolaSmiles - all the places Herc mentioned, plus Joanie (although some of their dresses come up very small and destroy your self esteem!)

SquashedFlyBiscuits · 15/05/2021 19:51

For those who asked. School haven't said what dh will be live teaching to y11s in t6 and he hasn't asked yet. Think he is hoping they will come to their senses so is trying not to think about it.

Congratulations on all those getting jabbed today.

Dh has been chained to the kitchen table marking today. Ds and I have been busy doing stuff before Indian variant arrives in our area.

Molly and co not happy about those naughty councils “defying” govt guidance and still encouraging masks in schools:

It’s nice to finally see some schools fighting back and standing up for the health of their pupils and staff. Stick that in your pipe and smoke it, Molly.

Piggywaspushed · 15/05/2021 20:20

You can't 'defy' guidance. It's guidance. they were all for it when that odious man in London decided not to have masks at his school, defying guidance.

A poster was claiming the DfE would throw the book at schools who have masks. Bollocks. I know they are twats but they won't bother. Imagine the consequences if there was an outbreak.

Argh. Year group down, along with transport, at DC's school.

HercwasanEnemyofEducation · 15/05/2021 21:23

Joanie is inconsistent with sizing. Some dresses are perfect and others don't get close to doing up.

I've not looked at Lands End, my dad shopping there in the mid 90s may be putting me off. Going to Google them now.

cantkeepawayforever · 15/05/2021 21:25

Should say, DC is in Y13, and has precisely 1 more week, including all final assessments, to go. Not in the year group affected ... yet. Indian variant. EXTREMELY low case rate area.

I do also think that Health and Safety law precludes the book being thrown at heads in this instance. It's a legal obligation on schools to assess and mitigate health and safety risks, and the government would be on a very sticky wicket if they said Covid guidance removed this obligation.....
JanFebAnyMonth · 15/05/2021 21:57

Oh no cant! Roughly where are you?

Yes U4T more than happy not to follow guidance when it suits them.

StaffRepFeistyClub · 15/05/2021 22:01

I marked Bob's paper today. I tried really hard to find some marks for him - a couple of BOD marks but it really doesn't make a difference to his final grade.
