You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

Do not give the staffroom password to non-staff as it attracts the wrong sort of crowd.

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation. Do not sit on the chairs and do wear a mask

No he most definitely did not. Far too left wing!

Piggywaspushed · 05/05/2021 20:44

Well, none of my English department ever read, so...

SquashedFlyBiscuits · 05/05/2021 20:45

Hi everyone, been AWOL for a bit. Hope you are all ok. Just read a few pages to catch up, - feels like eavesdropping on old friends chatting in the pub. I do hope the republic stays forever.

I am busy trying to ride out a perfect storm of conflicting needs in my classroom each day then spending my evenings trying to catch up with all the parts of my job that aren't behaviour. Dh is neck deep and beyond in tags. Fortunately, ds remains his usual cheerful self.

Piggywaspushed · 05/05/2021 21:21

Hi squashed!

Has anyone had cases in their schools? You seem very quiet on this which makes me wonder what is going on around here. Five or six cases in DH's school and about 10 at DS's, almost one every day since going back.

I feel like he sits in lessons with the sword of Damocles hovering over his head avoiding being a close contact each time.

MsAwesomeDragon · 05/05/2021 21:22

I'm currently reading a fantasy book for my own pleasure (it's complete nonsense but I'm enjoying it). Dd2 is reading me "the boy at the back of the class". And I've just started reading "the night bus hero" with my form (we're supposed to do silent reading one form time each week but they all read the wimpy kid books, so I've introduced "story time" to get them appreciating better quality books)

ChloeDecker · 05/05/2021 21:27

We had two classes return today having been self isolating for past 10 days and 1 class still out. A few individual kids self isolating due to their family members testing positive.

HarrietDVane · 05/05/2021 21:29

It's been suspiciously quiet in my school and my DDs' schools. A few coughers have been sent home but nothing has come of it.

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 05/05/2021 21:31

I've just read Pale Rider by Laura Spinney. About the flu pandemic of 1918/19. How it changed society/global development forever. I'm now on Exercised by Daniel Leiberman. I'm also reading Walk Two Moons by Sharon Creech for school. Need to re-read Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe before Monday.

School have just asked me to be involved in an anti-racism transformation programme for the schools in the city I work in. Not sure if this is a good thing or a bad thing: In meetings and during both personal and professional dialogue you have shown yourself to be passionate about social justice, confident to speak out and challenge, happy to engage in open dialogue about race and racism and strong advocates for our pupils.

Do you mean 'you are a gobby cow?' Yers... probably.

JanFebAnyMonth · 05/05/2021 21:31

Yay for you MrsAD.

I presume, piggy you mean that Little Dorrit is too left wing for Barack rather than the other way round? I did LD at A level, love it but it is Very Long..... Did you hear the R4 drama based on it a couple of years ago, it was a really interesting modernisation. Pushy 20-something daughter trying to sort out nearly homeless dad out and not be exploited by seeming middle class do-gooders secretly buying up the whole block of flats (or that’s my memory of it)?

MsAwesomeDragon · 05/05/2021 21:32

We haven't had any cases in my school or in dd's school. Rates in the community are very low round here as well

CarrieBlue · 05/05/2021 21:32

A few cases at DHs school, we still seem to be dodging it at ours (touching every piece of wood in sight). There was a case at DSs school before Easter but nothing since. Cases here are v.low though, below national average.

No cases at my school yet. But I’m not too complacent, we had no cases for ages after the summer and then suddenly ALL THE CASES. I guess LFTs should pick something up before it becomes a massive outbreak this time.

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 05/05/2021 21:38

No cases for us since February. No children even isolating since then.

I've got one in red list quarantine at the moment though.

JanFebAnyMonth · 05/05/2021 21:39

(Ok have just asked for that to be deleted, I shouldn’t have posted that .....) please don’t quote it if you did see it.

MrsHamlet · 05/05/2021 21:42

My top set English group has 4 boys and 28 girls. The bottom set is 6 boys and one girl.

Piggywaspushed · 05/05/2021 21:42

I know nothing, as Manuel would say...

Piggywaspushed · 05/05/2021 21:45

LD is very very long but I have a readlaong thread so we do instalments,

And ,yes, Dickens too left wing is what I meant! Shocking levels of socialism!

I have no real idea what our local rate is tbh but all the cases seem to be in DS and DH's schools!

Hahahahahaaaaa that’s great news, Jan

I was about to quote and reply to your post where you unexpectedly admitted to being a member of the Gavin Williamson Appreciation Society but it seems to have been deleted 🤔

I think I would love to work with you, Rule.

HercwasanEnemyofEducation · 05/05/2021 22:16

Brie Hope things are going OK this week with the investigation.

Go rule!

My options maths group has a 3:1 ratio of boys to girls.

JanFebAnyMonth · 05/05/2021 22:27

Grin noble
It will never be spoken of again....

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 05/05/2021 22:28

Lol. I wonder how U4T twitter is taking that.

That's the second court case that's been lost this week. The one for reopening pubs immediately and not on 17th May didn't get anywhere either.

Haven't heard of any cases in the schools I know round here Piggy but cases are low, so that probably isn't surprising.

HarrietDVane · 05/05/2021 22:35

I missed Jan's withdrawn comment, so I'm choosing to believe that it was peppered with the foulest expletives imaginable Wink
