You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

Do not give the staffroom password to non-staff as it attracts the wrong sort of crowd.

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation. Do not sit on the chairs and do wear a mask

I can assure you, no benefits. You'll end up spending £££££ on a retention fee to a useless MAT and £££££ more to buy in to services from the LA, which you have now but at many times the price. I could cry

Beachhuts90 · 28/04/2021 20:04

Omg that trainee with her constant moaning!

I've been waiting for this to show up here for ages 😂

HarrietDVane · 28/04/2021 20:10

So have I!

Interviewedundercaution · 28/04/2021 20:15

That's not OUR trainee someone's talking about is it? 😡

MrsHamlet · 28/04/2021 20:40

It is not our trainee! name wouldn't dare be that annoying and rude

13luckyblackcats · 28/04/2021 20:54

Another trainee here... Any SEN people around? I have an interview for a school I am very very keen to work at and have been asked to plan a 30 minute Maths/English lesson for a class working at 0-22 months...am I right to think that that's going to be a v short input followed by planned activities in continuous provision? Adult: child ratio of 2:1 so definitely possible. Am thinking something v sensory for the input.

HercwasanEnemyofEducation · 28/04/2021 20:59

Not SEN sorry but good luck 13

How was today name?

HairyMaclary · 28/04/2021 21:09

@13luckyblackcats - just be aware that sometimes continuous provision for children in that developmental age bracket is not always appropriate. They will not necessarily learn from their play and won’t know what to do with what you have set up.

I would go with something like a sensory story for input with a repeated refrain. Then have activities set up that are a bit more structured than continuous provision.

HarrietDVane · 28/04/2021 21:10

I'm not SEN either but wish you every success!

HairyMaclary · 28/04/2021 21:11

Also - what are their needs? They may need directing to different groups in more of a carousel style rather than free flow.

13luckyblackcats · 28/04/2021 21:15

Thank you @HairyMaclary, that is really helpful. And thanks all for the encouragement. I am doing a SEN PGCE and have experience in a similar school, but in UKS2, so quite different. Always up for a challenge though!

13luckyblackcats · 28/04/2021 21:18

Thanks @HairyMaclary, it's an imagined (not the right word I know) class as it's a new class to the school. Needs will be mainly ASD, with some non-verbal, so I am planning for PECS, Makaton and visuals. I am going to plan for all adults in the room to support a small group of 1-2 children.

I think the main part of the interview will be analysing the plan, so having to think through my justification is very helpful.

JanFebAnyMonth · 28/04/2021 21:24

I suppose that poster in Staffroom should get her persistence recognised - after all anyone else would surely have gone off in a huff by now, probably vowing to “step back from Mumsnet for my MH” (which is sometimes the best thing to do, as we possibly all know!)

13luckyblackcats · 28/04/2021 21:24

Argh so clearly the adult:child ratio is 1:2, sorry

MRHA has expressed concerns about the govt’s trialling LFTs to replace isolation in schools. (Includes link to The Grauniad’s article on this)

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 28/04/2021 22:08

@HarrietDVane yes, I assume it's a wind up.

MrsHamlet · 28/04/2021 22:10

I've definitely had trainees like that though

Appuskidu · 28/04/2021 22:14

Not been on here properly for ages-hope everyone is ok?

The trainee thread has made me laugh!

Wr had a trainee a few years back who when asked in the staffroom if they wanted tea or coffee on their first day, asked for a hot chocolate!

HairyMaclary · 28/04/2021 22:20

@13luckyblackcats - is the interview tomorrow? At a brand new school? I think I might know the one.... Good luck!

If ASD they will almost certainly need guidance and not free flow, continuous provision in ASD YR can be v inappropriate. I used a carousel, v attention grabbing starter where all activities were modelled then rotation of 3 activities. Each one could be extended/ supported to needs of child, one me and 2x TA ran each group, other TAs supported where necessary. All TAs ran groups each day, I needed them all skilled up! Lots of visuals but lots of simple langue, especially at that age, but as a SEND PGCE you know that!

phlebasconsidered · 28/04/2021 22:22

Could I ask, are any other year 6 doing residential? We have been told we are doing PGL and I am really not happy with this. Anyone who has ever been in one of their dining rooms will understand why!

JanFebAnyMonth · 28/04/2021 22:31

Ew phleb. I know my local primary’s is cancelled.....

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 28/04/2021 22:31

We are not doing a residential, but we are going to PGL for the day with year 5 and 6. We're only a few miles away from a site though. I wouldn't want to be doing any residential stuff.

We've been told to start school trips though - I'll only be booking something outside.
