You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

Do not give the staffroom password to non-staff as it attracts the wrong sort of crowd.

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation. Do not sit on the chairs and do wear a mask

I need to keep up with the thread. Have speed-read about 6 pages, I now have: a itchy head, a profound relief that I don't have to plan like a primary teacher, a quiet satisfaction with my personalised planner (max 2 sentences per lesson) , a dropped jaw from hearing that exam boards are still being paid fees, a slow burning anger that the Guardian has only just picked up that schools are not and have never been safe, and crossed eyes from trying to see the approaches from everyone's schools as being "on the same level".

StaffRepFeistyClub · 27/04/2021 22:36

Marking year 11 basket stuff, marking year 13 basket stuff - nothing else is getting done. The English dept led a mini-revolt at our place refusing to scan papers as it is an admin task; SLT backed down. No teacher has time for all that scanning just in case the exam board wants the work.

Like most teachers I am amazed the exam boards are still charging such high fees. I know they have to cover their costs but it just shows that they have been taking the mick with exam marking payment over the years

Such as sad article

Remember that the Guardian was spouting on about schools being safe Covid free places a few months back. Covid-washing fiends!

“Seeking career development/expansion” mistress?

Mistressinthetulips · 27/04/2021 23:18

Oh that's good too, thanks!
(Shorter commute and more chance to drink not ok then? Wink)

SquashedFlyBiscuits · 27/04/2021 23:20

@namechangedyetagain I have been the moany woman this week too. It is very hard to keep positive when you have a class that can't even line up properly when they are trying to get out to break on time. Even the one 'angel' class we have at my school are getting complaints daily at the moment from the lunch staff. Think there is a lot of it about. Keep on keeping on...and keep on eating the chocolate.

noblegiraffe · 27/04/2021 23:20

Oh no, I've just realised that Donna is @starrynight19's friend. :(

JanFebAnyMonth · 27/04/2021 23:24

“Seeking new professional opportunities” is what I meant

JanFebAnyMonth · 27/04/2021 23:26

Oh gosh noble, of course.

JanFebAnyMonth · 28/04/2021 00:01

(Yes I should be asleep, but this is interesting - yet more shenanigans with the right-wing, anti-vaccine, U4T-allied experts”:

Omg that trainee with her constant moaning!

Up crazy early today but I barely moved after getting home from blood donation yesterday so I am rested.

Need to have a look over what I’m doing today and double check I’ve printed and planned correctly. Then I’m hunting for missing year 9 textbooks that have gone walk about.

HerdyGerdy · 28/04/2021 07:01

@noblegiraffe

Oh no, I've just realised that Donna is *@starrynight19*'s friend. :(
Oh my god. Poor starrynight.
HercwasanEnemyofEducation · 28/04/2021 07:03

Sad So sorry starrynight

Where were the journos in December?

Up v early here too. TAG ineptitude making sleep hard. Think I need to learn when to let it go.

HarrietDVane · 28/04/2021 07:07

I'm so sorry, Starrynight Sad

TheHoneyBadger · 28/04/2021 07:43

I completely missed all this sorry - not being able to bookmark is making keeping up tricky. Sorry starrynight - missed the article but can infer from the above that you lost a friend.

Piggywaspushed · 28/04/2021 16:35

I see Gav is banging on about MATs again today .

noblegiraffe · 28/04/2021 16:38

Did you see that the Shadow Education Secretary brought up the cuts to Pupil Premium in parliament and Gav told her to stop moaning? What a shithead.

Interviewedundercaution · 28/04/2021 16:40

MATs are a fucking disgrace. Just sayin'.

Piggywaspushed · 28/04/2021 16:41

Yes I did. What a twat. It's Tory default though. Mock the person who criticises.

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 28/04/2021 17:48

Perhaps there would be less moaning going on if the government were doing a halfway decent job.

That article is horrific. So sorry, starrynight.

JanFebAnyMonth · 28/04/2021 17:50

Have people seen Michael Govern Ready’s version of Dulce et Decorum Est on Twitter or elsewhere?? Amazing poetry and political comment. Will try and post it

HobnobbingAboutHobnobs · 28/04/2021 17:53

I want my classroom back. I hate being in there now, the year 7 tutor group using it are such hard work to teach and they've trashed the room so much. Why the hell are teachers still moving around the building when so many other schools are now back to normal? I'm wondering if I'm in the right job more and more.

Thing is, I know I'm in the right job. It's just all the covid-ness of the current situation at work. And I'm in the process of changing ADs, never a fun time.

HobnobbingAboutHobnobs · 28/04/2021 17:54

@Interviewedundercaution

MATs are a fucking disgrace. Just sayin'.
Oh yes. An utter pile of shit. Our MAT CEO is currently adorning many an internal dartboard.
eitak22 · 28/04/2021 19:44

Got my vaccine today which I wasn't expecting.

Have to agree about MAT, wish Gav would stop pushing them.

MsAwesomeDragon · 28/04/2021 19:51

I really hate the thought of joining a MAT. We're an LA school and are happy that way. Most schools round here are either LA or standalone academies. We're pretty good, even if I do say so myself. What would be the benefit for us if we joined a MAT? We're not failing, we're getting good results, have good behaviour, etc. Why force a change none of us want?
