You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

Do not give the staffroom password to non-staff as it attracts the wrong sort of crowd.

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation. Do not sit on the chairs and do wear a mask

I get told off for my Midlands ‘buzz’ and ‘garidge’ by my Yorkshire husband who uses ‘while’ instead of ‘until’.

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 11/04/2021 23:13

I've just arrived in Cornwall to find that when my brother left on 29th December, he left the heating on and milk in the fridge. Fridge has been off. Holy crap the place is like some sort of stinking milking parlour. I'm trying not to think about the heating bill.

Good luck tomorrow folks!

CallmeHendricks · 11/04/2021 23:59

Shock Shock Shock Rule!

TheHoneyBadger · 12/04/2021 05:48

Doh! Hopefully the thermostat wasn’t turned up too high.

Awake since 4 after 5 hours sleep. Won’t need all the alarms I anxiously set after all. Going to quickly do lft before coffee

JanFebAnyMonth · 12/04/2021 07:12

Hope today goes well for those going in. And to DrMad (if she’s around?) and any other Welsh colleagues.

JanFebAnyMonth · 12/04/2021 07:13

Bore da! (My mum lived in Wales for a while)

Saucery · 12/04/2021 07:20

All the best to everyone going in. I have Sympathetic Anxiety and I’m not back until next Monday Confused

HercwasanEnemyofEducation · 12/04/2021 07:29

All the best everyone going back today. Have the ice ready for the gin later.

MrsHamlet · 12/04/2021 07:55

I've been wide awake for hours - and I'm not back yet. Might bake a cake for you working folks.

motherrunner · 12/04/2021 08:07

Have a good one to those back today!

My mission this week is to get DS’ haircut. Although taking him to a sheep shearer would be more apt.

PumpkinPie2016 · 12/04/2021 08:12

OMG rule Shock if there's one thing I can't cope with, it's sour milk Envy

Good luck to everyone who is back in work today.

I am off this week but already feeling a bit jittery. Got lots of planning that needs doing (though I have finished the Y9 unit). I think I am jittery about the whole TAGs process more than anything Sad

However, I am going to make sure I do some nice things with DS as well this week. We did lots of parks/a takeout lunch/baking/volcano building last week. Think we will go to the library tomorrow and he wants to go to the park again (easily pleased lol).

MsAwesomeDragon · 12/04/2021 08:17

Good luck everyone going back today.

motherrunner · 12/04/2021 08:55

So noticed my back tyres looking a little flat. Drove to petrol station to pump them up. Both went completely down so now waiting for AA. What a way to start the week!

chocolateisavegetable · 12/04/2021 09:18

Good luck to everyone going back this week. I'm already dreading next Monday, although grateful there's a bank holiday and an inset day before half term!

DreamingofBrie · 12/04/2021 09:26

Best of luck to everyone who's back in today. I'm in on Wednesday - is it normal to really really not want to return to teaching at the end of a break, or is it just that this last term has been so strange?

Very much enjoyed all of the accents chat Smile. I find that mine changes depending on to whom I'm talking. Apparently I have a posh telephone voice for recorded lessons Grin.

FrippEnos · 12/04/2021 09:56

good luck to everyone who is back in today.

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 12/04/2021 10:04

is it normal to really really not want to return to teaching at the end of a break, or is it just that this last term has been so strange?

I read a few threads on twitter yesterday that made me feel better about this. I think a lot of teachers are feeling much more knackered at the end of this holiday than usual. The phrase 'burnt out' was being banded about, but I think it is something like that really. I really, really don't want to go back - first time in 15 years. I'm absolutely dreading it. I can't even get my head around planning or thinking about all the things the class needs - I've done a to-do list, but just can't 'do' even the fun bits. I've brought a really simple task away with me, on a good day it would take me about 2 hours. I've already spent 2 hours just staring at it, not knowing where to start. Has to be done by Sunday too, as colleagues are waiting for it.

Meh.

ChloeDecker · 12/04/2021 10:29

Hope all is going well to our returning colleagues!

Still off here. Been working for the past week on the programming coursework replacement for our Year 10s (can’t believe we had another syllabus change for our 9-1 GCSE last Sept!) and it’s about 15 hours worth of lessons and mostly having to make up from scratch as not a lot of existing resources. It taaaaaking aaaaages!

Trying to multitask with the little one at the mo!

MrsHamlet · 12/04/2021 10:35

I remembered this morning that I promised year 12 a test first lesson back. Now I have to write the bastarding thing

DreamingofBrie · 12/04/2021 10:44

@RuleWithAWoodenFoot, yes, I feel that way too. I've done less work this break than I think I've ever done before - but it's meant that I've really appreciated the time off with dh and dc. I pretty much worked through February half term so perhaps I'm just knackered. The aim is to finish marking today (2x 6th form) then have a week or two prepared for KS3 by the end of this week.

I've had such a nice time cooking, enjoying the outdoors, doing a bit of gardening and other "leisure" stuff that I kind of want that life for a bit longer!

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 12/04/2021 10:53

I didn't work through half term on work-work, but there was nothing else to do, so I did quite a lot of CPD. Then didn't get a chance to use any of it last term because remote followed by behaviour hell.

That's what I'm dreading most - the tedious, time wasting behaviour. I should be sorting out strategies or activities or whatever, to try and address it, but I can't be bothered - I just want to go in Monday, tell them how I want them to behave, and go with that. Which probably won't work, so then I'll be furious that I didn't put the work in now on softly-softly approaches.

GuyFawkesDay · 12/04/2021 10:54

Thing is they've been in and out so much the behaviour is all over the place. We are knackered and strung out running all over the school and the kids now "own" their bubble areas.

It's a bit like trying to put jelly in a string bag, isn't it?

Good luck returners. I am dreading next week too.....

CallmeHendricks · 12/04/2021 12:07

And then mark it! What were you thinking?!
Mistressinthetulips · 12/04/2021 12:45

I can't believe it is both sunny and I am still on holiday. Some school here are back today though for a full return. Nicola has said this will mean that a strict 2m distancing will not be possible - no shit Sherlock. Try a 2 cm distancing perhaps?!

MrsHamlet · 12/04/2021 12:56

I don't know Hendricks
Rookie error :(
