You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

Do not give the staffroom password to non-staff as it attracts the wrong sort of crowd.

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation. Do not sit on the chairs and do wear a mask

I've been working all morning. I've adapted a year 10 summer exam to replace the topics we left out over lockdown. Then I've written revision materials for all classes who are sitting that exam.

Now I've stopped school work as I think that's more than enough work for a holiday day. Dd2 and I have made a cheesecake, which has been decorated within an inch of it's life with a variety of chocolates. Now I'm going to make some soap, as I got a soap making kit for Christmas and haven't tried it yet.

Sad Was just taking advantage of the house being empty to have a nice long shower and hair wash. Well, I was, until I slipped, fell, and bashed and cut my mouth.

I have at least three cuts in and outside mouth - not wanting to disturb them by cleaning it too much so can’t see exactly what the damage is, but I guess the bruising will be spectacular by tomorrow!

Have rung my ex and asked him to pick up DC as I feel a bit wobbly. Lying down with an ice pack on my face currently.

And I was going to cook 2 sorts of soup tonight, think I might just be serving beans on toast now. Don’t know how eating will be for me. Aha, this could be the incentive to diet I needed!

@MrsHamlet

I remembered this morning that I promised year 12 a test first lesson back. Now I have to write the bastarding thing
Snap.
Mistressinthetulips · 12/04/2021 15:45

Oh no! That sounds awful! I'm glad you were able to pick yourself up though - should you get it looked at?

chocolateisavegetable · 12/04/2021 15:52

Oh no Jan ! Hope you're ok Flowers

CallmeHendricks · 12/04/2021 15:53

Ouch! @JanFebAnyMonth!
Hope you recover soon.

MrsHamlet · 12/04/2021 15:59

Ouch Jan. That's nasty :(

Saucery · 12/04/2021 16:04

Ow, Jan ! Shock

Are your teeth ok? Salt water swooshed round your mouth if you have cut it inside - it heals fast in there but salt water helps.

Ouch-you poor thing! Blush No loose teeth, I hope?
JanFebAnyMonth · 12/04/2021 16:10

Thanks all, feeling a lot better now and am able to see that there’s only one cut which is bigger than small, plus a separate bruise. Have nibbled on a choc digestive and sucked some 70% cocoa dark choc (good for trauma).

JanFebAnyMonth · 12/04/2021 16:15

I’ll have to get my Homework Club lovelies (they really are, in the main) to be very sensible tomorrow so I don’t have to raise my voice to them tomorrow. Oh wow, just realised, no one will be able to see my injuries because of 😷! Which is both good and bad.

HarrietDVane · 12/04/2021 16:18

Ouch Jan! I hope you're ok. I second the advice to swoosh out with salt water if you can. Mouth injuries tend to heal very quickly, thankfully.

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 12/04/2021 16:27

Gin through a straw?

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 12/04/2021 16:35

Ouch Jan. Hope you are OK.

RandomGrammarPun · 12/04/2021 16:46

Sounds rough, Jan. Hope the cut heals well.

Piggywaspushed · 12/04/2021 16:47

Oh poor jan Sad

TheHoneyBadger · 12/04/2021 16:49

Blimey Jan - do you need one of those chairs that go in the shower for elderly folks so they don't fall? Wink Hope you're ok - sounds nasty.

Busy day - gym first thing, then work including appraisal review and rag sheet. Somehow agreed to do something as part of a target that I've then realised it's actually quite a lot of work but never mind. All year 8 teaching today - bit lively but mostly nice to be back in the classroom. Going to the gym first definitely helps with energy and mood but think I'll sleep well tonight.

Never had a reply to my email about how many meetings we should be doing a week.

JanFebAnyMonth · 12/04/2021 16:53

Thanks honey you’re making me feel a whole lot better Wink I was actually just moving too fast, had hopped out to get something and hopped back in just a little too quickly.....

noblegiraffe · 12/04/2021 17:23

Hope you feel better soon, Jan and that the shock was worse than the outcome.

JanFebAnyMonth · 12/04/2021 17:32

Yes, you know those moments when you almost watch yourself falling and think “S**t, this isn’t going to be good!”?
DC were sympathetic when they came in. Realising that the slightest sentimental post on Fb is making me well up though....

ChloeDecker · 12/04/2021 17:42

Ooooh rest easy Jan. You poor thing Flowers

motherrunner · 12/04/2021 17:45

@Jan! Ouch! Take care 💐

motherrunner · 12/04/2021 17:47

Glad your had a good first day back @Honey

JanFebAnyMonth · 12/04/2021 17:56

Thanks all. It’s very nice having this space to air grievances and report mishaps!

BigBobBoots · 12/04/2021 18:03

Ouch Jan, I hope it heals swiftly.
I faceplanted the pavement last year, just before lockdown. Fortunately it was World book day the next day so I was able to wear face paint to help cover up. It didn't help with the knee brace and missing tooth though 😬
