You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give the staffroom password just in case it attracts the wrong sort

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom and you will receive a detention

Hey staff, thanks for the thread, hope you are ok as you aren’t around much these days!

PumpkinPie2016 · 08/02/2021 06:04

Thanks staff I too, hope you're ok! Not been around much myself lately as it's been crazy busy at work.

Glad it's nearly half term nowSmile

Although, for the first time, I was feeling pretty despondent yesterday. With online learning, unable to do practical work when in school (Science) due to the way we organised our bubbles.

Trying to move a faculty forward in a pandemic.

It's all just hard Sad

Morning!

Beachhuts90 · 08/02/2021 06:17

Morning!

My train company has been furiously tweeting to not travel. It does look pretty bad out there but as things stand my line is one of the few running. Sigh my commute involves an hour of walking as well, it'll have to be a day where I wear my wellies and carry my work shoes in a bag.

Saucery · 08/02/2021 06:22

Cheers, Staff.
Just a light frosting for us. Will be plenty of moans when I whack those windows open in the staffroom and classroom, I expect. “Ventilation is our only defence!” is an excellent comeback to those moans Grin

Hello everyone. This weekend's news is that my school is in a 'surge' area for a new variant. All local residents are being encouraged to go for a pcr test. Did not sleep well.

Monkeytennis97 · 08/02/2021 06:51

Hello allSmile

Gah, hugs.

Thanks staff.

There's a thing in the mirror about working till first week if august and getting the holidays back in half term and Xmas.

Which is possibly also because they may have restrictions back in place next autumn at times.

Gah.

HercwasanEnemyofEducation · 08/02/2021 07:04

Cheers staff

MsAwesomeDragon · 08/02/2021 07:16

MrsHerculePoirot · 08/02/2021 07:25

Morning!

SansaSnark · 08/02/2021 07:41

Morning everyone. Only one week til half term. I feel like I shouldn't be this tired from home learning but I definitely am!

MrsHerculePoirot · 08/02/2021 07:45

I know @SansaSnark! I’m looking forward to half term even though there is nothing to do except go for walks again 🤣

MrsHamlet · 08/02/2021 07:50

Morning all!
I don't want longer holidays at Christmas. We've booked to go away then but two weeks is enough at that time of year.

DreamingofBrie · 08/02/2021 07:52

Morning everyone. Last 5 period day today until after half term. Nearly there!

RigaBalsam · 08/02/2021 07:52

Thanks Staff

Piggywaspushed · 08/02/2021 08:30

I have a 5 period day on FRIDAY!! FRIIIIIIDAY!! WAIL.

EnemyOfEducationNo1 · 08/02/2021 08:32

Morning. Happy Monday

MrsHerculePoirot · 08/02/2021 08:33

None of that shit about extra long days or holidays is going to come off without LOTS of advance notice (don’t have have to legally publish terms dates a year or something in advance of next year - might have made the up?!?).

Those kids that need it the most won’t go. Teachers and parents will have booked holidays (assuming allowed). Unions would not allow it.

They can run summer schools and pay those who choose to get involved, like many schools do now, but unless it directly lines the pockets of some Tory sympathiser it’s just not going to happen.

I’m actually enjoying laughing at those seriously suggesting it - because it’s so fucking ridiculous I can even take it seriously.

Appuskidu · 08/02/2021 08:36

They can’t really make us teach 2 more weeks until August, can they?

I’ve been ignoring it as it seemed to be one of those stupid suggestions that gets quietly forgotten about, but it seems to be EVERYWHERE!

I’m going on holiday! And if I can’t go on holiday, I will be crying at home about my holiday being cancelled-not at work doing more of the same but in a hot sweaty classroom.

MrsHerculePoirot · 08/02/2021 08:37

NO THEY ABSOLUTELY CANNOT.

Sorry don’t know where the caps came from but it felt fine not to change them 🤣

TheHoneyBadger · 08/02/2021 08:53

I'm with you mrshp not even worth feeling angst as it will never happen. I've flights out of here booked in July anyway and am crossing everything I can take them.

Thanks for the new thread staff.

My work today consists of one live supported lesson then a load of admin then an insanely long meeting. I'm hoping the finish time is a mistake and no doubt hod will tack a subject meeting on afterwards.

I have my first virtual parents evening later this month. Do we have to have cameras on?

TheHoneyBadger · 08/02/2021 08:55

The real work of the day is getting ds awake and logged on for his live maths lesson. He's furious that his maths teacher is doing every lesson live Grin

Appuskidu · 08/02/2021 09:41

Good. Logically, I think it’s probably all just a manufactured suggestion designed to make unions retaliate, so the press can pile on teachers for being obstructive, not ‘stepping up’ and failing children. I think there is a real hatred about the summer holidays and lots of people would rather they went (insert some made up piece of evidence about harvests) and this fits nicely into that agenda.

I just want to go on my holiday in July and I’m fed up with being told teachers should give up all rights to a life because it’s a vocation. Wtf does vocation actually mean anyway-is it now working every hour for someone else without any expectation of pay?!
