You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give the staffroom password just in case it attracts the wrong sort

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom and you will receive a detention

Careful, we get told off for posting about other threads in here.

I doubt that it actually happened.

Piggywaspushed · 13/02/2021 20:27

I am afraid I am tutting quietly in the corner about the teacher 'party'... I find it interesting though how many people are piping up about the reams of H and S in their offices. LOL.

noblegiraffe · 13/02/2021 20:32

A table with food on isn’t a party though.

A photo of a conga line would be a different matter.

MrsHamlet · 13/02/2021 20:33

It's my best friend's 40th in the week after half term. I'm taking a cake into school for her. I certainly won't be sharing that on social media

HercwasanEnemyofEducation · 13/02/2021 20:35

The party thing was stupid to put on SM. It's been happening in our school though.

noblegiraffe · 13/02/2021 20:39

Any teacher who posts anything on public social media that isn’t just them looking wet and miserable standing in a concrete barren wasteland is asking for a kicking.

And even then they are flaunting that they’ve got time to be gallivanting around barren concrete wastelands while parents do their job for them.

Loshad · 13/02/2021 20:40

@namechangedyetagain definitely apply for the other job, for all the reasons others have said.
Having an interview for a job at another school was what prompted my head to offer me a permanent job. My HoD said to him I would get that, so he came and dragged me out of a department meeting and did the decent thing. I’ve been there 12 years now so I hope he was happy with his decision 🤣

OpheliasCrayon · 13/02/2021 20:41

I mean yeah much as I got vocal about it...should not be putting that on social media for SURE.

OP shouldn't have emailed the school but SM shouldn't have been involved.

I don't have either my first or second make on my FB - I'm totally unsearchable for this reason.

MrsHamlet · 13/02/2021 20:42

I actually despair of some of my colleagues on social media at the best of times. One posted daily updates of him building his extension during the first lockdown!

HercwasanEnemyofEducation · 13/02/2021 20:44

mrsH Are you sure we don't work at the same place? I had a colleague do something very similar. I also despair at the ones constantly moaning about their work life balance yet have time to run businesses on the side. Business on the side is fine, but stop moaning about how little time you get to yourself.

MrsHamlet · 13/02/2021 20:46

herc if you hear a rumour about cake on the Thursday after half term, we do work in the same place. Come and get some - just don't post photos of it on Facebook!!!

RandomGrammarPun · 13/02/2021 20:50

Who even has an open social media account anyway?

I have a mental -actual- list of friends on fb who have parents at my school on their friends' list so I'm careful with what I post in response to them.

Staffdontblowitnow · 13/02/2021 21:14

It is all a load of tosh. Teachers do not have open social media accounts. All my settings are very high and even my profile picture does not portray who I am.

I know I'm a couple of hours behind but junior bake off on more4 is good to watch. It is genuinely impressive what the kid's bake and it's presented by Harry Hill so has a bit of light hearted fun thrown in to try and relax them.

chocolateisavegetable · 13/02/2021 21:32

A photo of a conga line

Oh bugger - you can see my FB photos?

thecatfromjapan · 13/02/2021 21:50

That thread is quite special.

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 13/02/2021 21:53

The line about that being where the chairs live belongs on the MN one liners thread.

MrsHamlet · 13/02/2021 21:57

@RafaIsTheKingOfClay

The line about that being where the chairs live belongs on the MN one liners thread.
Why thank you 😂
JanFebAnyMonth · 13/02/2021 22:29

Hope am not risking deletion here if I observe that we haven't really been reprimanded for 'posting about other threads', it was when we specifically alluded to other posters that we got warnings. Which I think is fair enough. As long as the concern for individuals is applied consistently of course....

A few teachers from my kids' primary have pretty open Fb accounts and are friends with parents. Against school policy, I might add.

Sunday Times reporting all schools back on March 8th.

They really are mad.

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 13/02/2021 22:52

Might be worth a go anyway name. I've got a friend who applied as an NQT and got to interview and then was offered any supply they had going in the future. She got the next job that came up there.

JanFebAnyMonth · 13/02/2021 23:12

Parents United had a post earlier saying it's a quiet news weekend, there's loads of speculation around about what Boris will announce on the 22nd / week thereof, don't let froth cause you anxiety.

Sensible advice, seeing equal numbers of articles headed "all back on the 8th" and of "scientists advise against any reopening which risks a third /fourth wave".

Monkeytennis97 · 13/02/2021 23:20

@JanFebAnyMonth thanks xxThanks

Sunday Telegraph reporting Primary back on 8th March and Secondary a week later. Still bonkers. I will see what the union has to say, especially with the SA variant being very close to us now.
