You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give the staffroom password just in case it attracts the wrong sort

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom and you will receive a detention

Waste of energy thinking about it.

Do you have to be in the uk to do exam marking?

JanFebAnyMonth · 08/02/2021 18:30

Thank you to choc for at least bothering to answer! She found the article I (in fact) posted last night...

But what I was really after was do we know what he's actually like? Who his mates are, where he went to school?

Come on, chop chop you 'orrible lot!

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 08/02/2021 18:30

I want my child to catch up spending lots of free playing time with her friends. She needs to fall out, make up, negotiate, be bossed about, do some bossing about, be creative... she doesn't need to know anything else about the great fire of London.

MrsHamlet · 08/02/2021 18:30

Contracts say so but I have marked in Germany and France quite effectively. My team leader managed from China.

TheHoneyBadger · 08/02/2021 18:31

Oh my Marks & Spencer order arrived. Thanks to whoever it was who highlighted their comfy trousers range. I'm well kitted out if we ever go back to school with various jersey trousers that won't need ironing

WarriorN · 08/02/2021 18:33

So now they're saying catch up is for the subjects they've missed out on?

Music, drama, sport where's art, textiles and dt??

Again, who is going to do that?

noblegiraffe · 08/02/2021 18:34

Mainly, Jan, I know that he can’t spell Kevin.

Thank you. I'm wondering if it's worth aiming towards (eg gaining lots of relevant experience and evidence) exam marking as a future string to my bow to earn uk money whilst overseas.

Didn't know whether that was possible or if it involves shed loads of physical papers having to be posted back and forth in which case it's not realistic I guess.

Piggywaspushed · 08/02/2021 18:35

One of his mates is my ex HT is that helps. So that means his mates are Kenneth Baker, and Michael Wilshaw with a side helping of Nick Gibb.

MrsHamlet · 08/02/2021 18:37

No paper papers any more. I get paper stuff but that's only team leaders and up. We have face to face meetings too but everything else is online

Thanks mrsh. It would be a long way down the track but good to think about. I'm curious how much it pays but ignore if that's a rude question.

Yes I was hesitating to point to that, in case it biased anything, there being actual spelling teachers on this thread n all..

Oh. I’ve only just returned to the thread. What are these comfy trousers? I have a gigantic arse, will they fit?
MrsHamlet · 08/02/2021 18:59

Depends how fast you are! I marked about 150 scripts in November for about £600 pre tax.

It was me. Good trouser purchase for school - look smart enough, you could dress them up quite reasonably for spring and summer I think.

Here's one of Kevin's (former organisation's) good ideas:

www.mirror.co.uk/tech/poorer-parents-receive-texts-reminding-13588392

So that's fine. Maybe we could all still holiday in July and text a few reminders to parents of vulnerable children about Shakespeare, covalent bonding, fronted adverbials...

JanFebAnyMonth · 08/02/2021 19:04

Sorry KevAn!!

noblegiraffe · 08/02/2021 19:08

Do you think it’s like in acting and there’s some other overpaid under-skilled ideas-shower wonk called Kevin Collins and Kevan had to do a David Walliams and swap the i?

noblegiraffe · 08/02/2021 19:10

Sar Kevan Collans has sparked a million annoying threads and I’m holding it against ham.

HercwasanEnemyofEducation · 08/02/2021 19:15

Sar Kevan - twit.

chocolateisavegetable · 08/02/2021 19:27

Nooooooo choc - we're not allowed to give rewards unless Ptolemy and Hermione get them all.
Um, it was actually a science lesson - I was teaching her about space

MrsHamlet · 08/02/2021 19:38

I see you choc giving away rewards with casual disregard for Ptolemy's feelings.
