I'll pop a link in the old one so you know where to find safe haven. I have tried to clear out some space by getting rid of the ohp and vcr trolley and gin is hidden behind the sick sand bucket.

I'd mind less, mrsHp, were it not that the layout of the room is such that they sit side on to me. I can't see 50% of their bastarding ears.
And it's an extra class I'm doing as a favour!

MsAwesomeDragon · 23/03/2021 23:31

That really annoys me MrsH. Our SLT are the worst for noticing something I haven't, then asking me why I haven't done something about it rather than dealing with it themselves. Obviously I haven't dealt with it because I haven't noticed it or I really don't think it's a problem. Since I'm not supposed to be wandering round the room very much (I am still doing a bit of moving to help those who need it) I don't notice as much as I normally do. My hod is great though, he deals with things quietly and discreetly if he notices anything. And is clear that he noticed because he's in a different position in the room, not because he's better than me, and that I would probably notice things in his room if I ever went in during a lesson.

Telegraph reporting kids to be vaccinated fromAugust (trial results permitting presumably!)

Ooh, excellent! That would be brilliant at bringing infection rates right down. Just like vaccinating kids is a winning strategy against flu.
JanFebAnyMonth · 24/03/2021 07:22

And also good for school staff and families

TheHoneyBadger · 24/03/2021 08:14

Morning all. Thanks for the good wishes and the pep talk from Chris.

At the moment I don't feel anxious but maybe that will kick in soon. There's not much I can do other than present my vision of the role and then answer questions as best I can. There's been little time to plan or get overly worked up. Will just do my best.

Have straightened my hair and am going to put some make up on. Not really sure I can cope with proper shoes - might have to take my trainers with me to put on afterwards because I'm not running around four lessons in four different zones in uncomfortable shoes. Have loved being allowed to wear trainers this year.

Trainer envy. We were told that the kids didn’t get to wear trainers when they were the ones traipsing across the school.

Good luck with the interview! (And Name!)

SquashedFlyBiscuits · 24/03/2021 17:31

Checking in for interview updates. Have my fingers crossed.

Anyone else's school have a huge internet meltdown due to a cyber attack?

No, just mine?

Along with 10 more positive cases reported in sixth form.

Seriously at the end of my tether.

This was reported on the news yesterday as being widespread...

JanFebAnyMonth · 24/03/2021 18:04

I know the University of Northampton has been hit since last week....

Yes I came on to find out interview results too, let's hope no news is good news.

Quiet in here today ....

Whole population’s going to be offered LFTs, whoppy-doo!

Appuskidu · 05/04/2021 12:40

Things are really quiet-I thought I’d lost you all!

Has anything more been said about masks in schools after Easter??

Also, are there any fellow KS1 bods on here who have seen anything about ‘Letters and Sounds’ being discontinued?? I read some bits on Facebook this morning and it sounds like schools will have to use an alternative phonics scheme but they will have to pay for it as the DfE say the (free, DfE-endorsed) L+S is no good any more. This will be a huge unexpected cost to schools! I thought it was an April Fool when I first saw it.

noblegiraffe · 05/04/2021 13:28

I read The Demon Headmaster last night for nostalgia reasons. At play time the kids are all in the playground standing in circles chanting times tables, capital cities and so on instead of playing.

That school that said it had eliminated bullying by introducing supervised activities, I saw a video of kids stood in a circle at break reciting Ozymandias.

The marching, the chanting, the drilling with facts. It’s like The Demon Headmaster is now a handbook for schools. Available at all good behaviour hubs.

noblegiraffe · 05/04/2021 13:29

Appu can’t you continue using resources even if they’ve been ‘discontinued’? My favourite textbook is an Intermediate Tier GCSE one that has technically been obsolete for a decade.

CallmeHendricks · 05/04/2021 13:42

@noble, there have been many times in the last year when I wondered if Gavelar had been modelling himself on the Demon Headmaster, what with all that parroting of "Schools are safe."

Appuskidu · 05/04/2021 13:50

I’m not quite sure how it all works-to be honest. I would imagine a lot of SLT will be worried that if their phonics screening results aren’t amazing, they would have to justify still using it.

Just reading through this now www.gov.uk/government/publications/phonics-teaching-materials-core-criteria-and-self-assessment/validation-of-systematic-synthetic-phonics-programmes-supporting-documentation#note6

It’ll be interesting to see whose alternative phonics schemes will get approved and how much they will cost!

MrsHamlet · 05/04/2021 13:59

I've been at a friend's for coffee in the garden. I'm frozen now!

JanFebAnyMonth · 05/04/2021 14:17

@Appuskidu, when you ask if anything more’s been said about masks after Easter, do you mean since the updated guidance was released last week that, for just a few hours, said they were continuing, then got edited? Nothing since then. Friday afternoon maybe.
