You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give the staffroom password just in case it attracts the wrong sort

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom and you will receive a detention

WhenSheWasBad · 10/01/2021 08:58

Ooh when glad you're around. I have just emailed you a couple of lessons

I’m soooooo pleased crackle the last lessons yous sent me were amazing. Especially loved the sea-saw to teach moments. Feel free to send me anything you like.
Thanks again, it is massively appreciated.

WhenSheWasBad · 10/01/2021 08:58

Typed in yous instead of you (thank god I’m not an English teach) Blush

DollyMixtureLulus · 10/01/2021 09:09

Oh my goodness the affair stories! My innocent primary school eyes are popping out of my head Shock

RandomGrammarPun · 10/01/2021 09:13

Not many affair stories in my last three schools, unless I'm very out of the gossip loop. School before was massive and lots happening there, although it was so massive you only found out via the kids Grin.

TheHoneyBadger · 10/01/2021 09:15

I'm secondary dolly and mine are popping out too. Lots of scandals when I was at school but none I've been aware of working in them.

Congrats on test result crackle.

I'm feeling strange about not having worked so far this weekend. No doubt I'll make up for it tomorrow

13luckyblackcats · 10/01/2021 09:17

Off topic as not about affairs (!) but I just wanted to say a massive thank you to everyone who gave me advice and support during my last School Direct placement- I am now in a gorgeous SEN school with a wonderful class teacher, an amazing and supportive mentor and can see how the process should work. @MrsHamlet and @namechangedyetagain I remember in particular for being kind.

And whilst I am giving my Oscars' speech, thanks to all the SEN people who have posted over the last couple of years, I don't think I can get all the names right, but your posts were a massive influence on me going down this route. Off to plan a poetry lesson for P7-11!

I'm pissed off about 'frontline' staff who WfH getting the vaccine too. Also my sister works at an optician chain and she had it yesterday. Not saying it's not needed but she works in a much more controlled environment that we do.

I've been trying to keep off my phone as my DCs are mainly at home so you've probably seen this already, but if not www.theguardian.com/education/2021/jan/09/school-guidance-for-children-of-key-workers-changes-again

HarrietDVane · 10/01/2021 09:19

What a relief, @Cracklefraggle!

I really feel for those of you working in SEN. You really should be vaccinated at the same stage as those working in adult care.

Totally totally agree x
Monkeytennis97 · 10/01/2021 09:23

@RigaBalsam

Matt H just said on Sky. I think Gavin is doing a great job. I cackled out loud.
He doesn't. Didn't he say in the Telegraph yesterday "what have they been doing for the last 6 months?" regarding Gav et al.
RigaBalsam · 10/01/2021 09:35

Yes Monkey but he denied that too. Said the report was wrong. 🙄🙄

noblegiraffe · 10/01/2021 09:36

Happy Week Since Boris Told Everyone Schools Are Safe And Parents Should Send Their Kids In everyone! How has that gone?

I’ve got 4 lessons to plan for tomorrow, 3 live and I’m worried about whether I’ve got enough time which is insane as 4 lessons would normally take a couple of hours. And people claim I wanted schools closed. Why on earth would any teacher want this?

TrashedWarrior · 10/01/2021 09:36

Thanks all. Though I know Rule's
setting isn't that far off what we have tbh by the sounds of it.

Lost it with Dh last night. He's not surfacing till after 9 and I'm dealing with some chronic health symptoms, lack of sleep and a poorly toddler. It won't take much to tip me into taking a week or two off sick at this rate.

TrashedWarrior · 10/01/2021 09:38

@13luckyblackcats I'm so glad 🙂

TrashedWarrior · 10/01/2021 09:40

Salty given increasing numbers of nhs staff are getting the vaccine I doubt they'll heed that advice. (Sorry for my cynicism; I know too many locally, personally.)

TrashedWarrior · 10/01/2021 09:41

(Because rates aren't too bad here I mean.)

RigaBalsam · 10/01/2021 09:43

My friend had the vaccine too. She said she felt guilty and her son calls her a dining room worker. She is NHS and said felt so relieved but also thought she would be daft to turn it down.

She also said they told her police were above teachers for what they think will happen but teach should be on the list. Hmm

Piggywaspushed · 10/01/2021 09:46

Morning.

No sleep last night. Aaargh!

Police are another thing we don't hear about in the press. I bet loads of them have been ill and possibly died and it is suppressed. They are an emergency service and I think they should be vaccinated tbh.

Tory Fibs on Twitter seem to have found 8 teachers/TAs who died in one week at Christmas Sad

Piggywaspushed · 10/01/2021 09:47

I had 5 hours of live lessons on Thursday : killed me noble and , yup, I spent ages planning. I seem to have sucked myself into providing stuff for the rest of the dept too.

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 10/01/2021 09:52

Coppers who come into contact with tye public should be above us i think. Not desk jockeys WFH though. We've got a child at school who has been in school since March, mum is WFH police, and there was an older sibling home from uni throughout too. Bet that mum has a vaccine before teachers too.

RigaBalsam · 10/01/2021 09:55

Police can be spat at etc so they should be on the list but agree about the wfh staff.

I am just using the same PowerPoints slightly tweaked so planning ok. The hard bit is going live and having kids in the class answering my questions and from home too. They can't hear each other so it's a bit bizarre.

MrsHerculePoirot · 10/01/2021 09:56

@noblegiraffe I went to be at 1pm in the end and still have two lessons to finish off.... but then I’ve done the whole week.... . I’ve used demos and quizziz for some interactivity where I can.... I’ve also done loads for my department and need to do two more lessons today that others will use but I will use next week and then after that I think we’ll be back to sharing it out more evenly.

KatherineOfGaunt · 10/01/2021 10:00

I have a non-frontline NHS friend working from home who's had the vaccine. It rubs me the wrong way everytime she sends me a photo of her cats while she's working, and I'm at school basically as normal, except there are 20 people in the classroom not 33.

And breathe

I'm struggling mentally and emotionally right now. I'm really feeling the restrictions and I just want to hug my mum. But I can't even see her. But I just want a comforting hug from her and I haven't had one in nearly a year and it's killing me. Sad

RigaBalsam · 10/01/2021 10:02

Totally understand that Katherine.
