You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give the staffroom password just in case it attracts the wrong sort

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom and you will receive a detention

Think that's the standard misleading wording riga.....

Although is that the bit that's being rewritten, but schools may not have had that message yet?

How are you feeling and will you get to speak to yr GP soon after missing them this morning?

FlagsFiend · 11/01/2021 18:01

@RigaBalsam

So I have a letter as a parent just arrived saying this?

validation studies conducted by Oxford University and Public Health England, they were shown to be as accurate in identifying a case as a Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) test (99.68% specificity). The tests have lower sensitivity but they are better at identifying cases when a person has higher viral load, hence the need to test frequently.

Yes, high specificity means if you test positive you almost certainly have covid. Low sensitivity means if you test negative you might still have covid, it's not good at detecting it...
JanuaryChill · 11/01/2021 18:01

Specificity means they don't tell you you've got Covid when actually it's tuberculosis/measles/a common cold

SansaSnark · 11/01/2021 18:04

The narrative is really clearly that if lockdown doesn't work its because of individual rule breakers. That's why they're talking about banning people from having a chat in the street.

I don't think it's because they think it will help, I think it's all about shifting the blame.

Whilst schools and other businesses are open in the ways that they are, this lockdown won't be as effective as lockdown 1.0, and they need excuses for that.

Thanks. I hate the way they are being treated as the gold standard.

The doctor called me back. She has written me a prescription for beta blockers and sent me a depression questionnaire. She is phoning me back Monday. She said I can self certify it I want to go off ar anytime. I am going to take it day by day.

There is no way they can give us a room to work in so we have to move round rooms. So it loos like in or out to me. Not help people to stay in. Not spoken more to HR but was told the first bit as a few people were upset over that.

chocolateisavegetable · 11/01/2021 18:08

Can anyone beat this for an insane ratio? 6 KW/V children in class, 5 adults involved in supervising them (not all at once, but it means that if a child test positive, the school loses 5 adults).

That sounds crazy. It would be hard to work out for my school. As its all spead out and some see contact than others. I think we have one child with 5 different teachers a day. This several times over.

We had 7 percent in today of pupils and 100 percent of staff.

chocolateisavegetable · 11/01/2021 18:19

Riga I'm Primary, so this is a class of children who are in one room all day. There are 3 adults in the room with them - but it's a mix of 5 adults (if that makes sense - it's been a long day!). Sorry to hear about you struggling. Do be completely honest with the questionnaire and I hope you get the help you need. If they ask you to try antidepressants, don't worry if they don't work as there are loads of different types.

Here we go, Daily Fail but even so:

Backbenchers rounded on the National Education Union in a call with Mr Williamson last week, with one saying the ‘NEU is about to become the National Union of Mineworkers of this generation’ and calling for action.

(Anyone think Gav is capable of behaving like Maggie, even if that we're a desirable thing?)

Thanks Choc.

Wow 3 adults in one room does seem excessive.

I have a little crush on JetA1: "You sort the virus then the teachers will sort the education until then I stand by the teachers"

Cracklefraggle · 11/01/2021 18:50

Riga apologies if I am teaching you how to suck eggs but have you made it clear to your school that 1 of the following WILL happen;

1 They work with you to find a solution that you are happy with - perfectly reasonable and they should do this anyway.
2 You get signed off and provide no remote learning at all.

Put it in writing and if they want to cut their noses off to spite their face that's on them, not you. Flowers

RigaBalsam · 11/01/2021 18:55

Thanks cackle. I think they are aware but I will speak to them tomorrow i think they know this but they are refusing to bend.

WhenSheWasBad · 11/01/2021 19:00

Sorry you are having such a rough time riga see how you feel but if you aren’t well you aren’t well and you need to go off sick.

Cracklefraggle · 11/01/2021 19:00

Thanks cackle. I think they are aware but I will speak to them tomorrow i think they know this but they are refusing to bend.
If they are not willing to budge then do what you need to do for you. Any impact on colleagues / kids is not your doing. Some schools rely on our 'teacher guilt' too much. Please stand your ground Flowers
RigaBalsam · 11/01/2021 19:03

Thanks both. You are right.

My favourite comment (among many - what a surprise DM)

He will need to get his mum to help hime with that.

Thank you Romans from Chester.

GuyFawkesDay · 11/01/2021 19:29

Oh my word I should not have clicked that thread tonight 🤣

TheHoneyBadger · 11/01/2021 19:55

I'm off to check out DM readers supporting teachers.

Still no boiler. 'Hopefully' will be able to come tomorrow Hmm Have a little electric fan heater in my bedroom now, curtesy of the parents who have everything you could ever need if they can only find it in the barn, so my fingers have thawed out.

I need to have a play around on google meet tomorrow and brave a couple of live live lesson on Friday if I can work out how to share my screen and not my face and home and how to record as well as that's our safeguarding ourselves itms.

We can actually (more staff than children) but it would be outing and the TAs are being sent to do jobs here and there. Just so happens most of the parents decided to keep them at home in that class. Sen so higher ratios anyway.

TrashedWarrior · 11/01/2021 20:15

Glad the Gp is supportive Riga. Do be v v honest. I was guilty of dismissing a lot of my depression symptoms and carrying on in a functional way. But it made it so, so much worse.

I think I knew it was bad when I struggled to make a cup of tea without telling my self I was a failure, at tea making.

I'd got into a habit of walking into the house and breaking down in an anxiety / depressive heap every night and doing the whole thing again the next day. I thought that was normal and ok.

Sending many un mn hugs 🤗

Lancrelady80 · 11/01/2021 20:22

We had 3 adults to 0 children for a few days last week.

Then 3 to one child who had just returned from abroad. As in, the day before.

It was the head who let him in!

chocolateisavegetable · 11/01/2021 20:24
