You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give the staffroom password just in case it attracts the wrong sort

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom and you will receive a detention

Is it ok to record a video to upload for class with a large gin in hand? Just wondering?

@MrsHerculePoirot Thanks - I didn’t want her to speak to her school and say ‘oh Miss Time said you’d definitely take him, she’s my friend, works in the next village etc’ and then have a headteacher baying for my blood 😂

I made some earlier while steadily destroying half a sodding packet of Hobnobs. Luckily you can’t hear the crunching on the voiceover...

Monkeytennis97 · 04/01/2021 21:57

Does anyone know what's happening with special schools? Really don't want DS to go back (school is doing remote this week).

Monkeytennis97 · 04/01/2021 21:57

What are Us4them up to at the moment I wonder....

StanfordPines · 04/01/2021 21:57

Plus, I don’t actually have any wine in the house and gin seems a bit de trop for a Monday just after University Challenge.......

My lovely local independent wine shop did a mail out recently telling people how to order for delivery etc and the did say in bold now is not the time to run out of wine.

Monkeytennis97 · 04/01/2021 21:58

@Piggywaspushed

On Twitter : *There was an all staff meeting of civil servants at the Department of Education today where they were told there was no plans to close schools and no plans to cancel exams.

Hearing there will now be another tomorrow morning, presumably to row back entirely on all of it.*

Have you got the Twitter link?😊

Putting their armour on ready to go and charge the gates In my head, I had "crash the gates" but that's truckers, not lunatics.

Drinking here. Looking forward to remote teaching AND home schooling. All while being hated on by 70% of society who think I'm baking and painting the kitchen. Looking forward to all the comments telling teachers we are 'discusting and should be furlonged'. Bring on the furlong! 🙏🙏🙏

My favourite part of Boris’ speech was when he acknowledged that primary schools had gone back for one day and made out that this is because ‘every day counts’. My eyes rolled out of my head!

I’m primary SLT but in London so we have had all weekend to sort of KW and vulnerable rotas, make sure everyone is ready for remote learning etc. Really feel for primary colleagues thrown right in the deep end with parents expecting KW and online learning first thing tomorrow.

Useruseruserusee · 04/01/2021 22:15

We have a school nursery and reception classes too. They will all be only for KW and vulnerable.

It was ridiculous, wasn't it?

I think some schools won't be able to offer provision tomorrow because of this- whereas had they been given time to plan...

I guess he had to say something to justify it!

BelleSausage · 04/01/2021 22:17

Evenin’ All.

I am a general lurker and try to give up Mumsnet regularly (for me ‘earth) but god dam it has been an odd few days.

It is probably a good thing that they cancel the testing bollocks because the tests and PPE that were supposed to show up at school at 8am never did.

Kids can’t have COVID if you don’t test them! Smart!

TheHoneyBadger · 04/01/2021 22:17

Blimey. What a difference a day makes.

Checked emails and it looks like I'm down for a couple of kw lessons each Monday - yr 8 and yr 10. Hoping the numbers attending stay low.

Any news on how the long the lockdown is for? I did watch Boris but may have missed that and can't watch him again.

MrsHamlet · 04/01/2021 22:18

Implied until half term.

Monkeytennis97 · 04/01/2021 22:20

Can I just say well done Noble. You have been tireless in trying to get it out there about the realities of schools in Covid times. 🙏😊 and how they could be managed more safely. Such a shame we are where we are.

I was chatting with an Italian school teacher friend of mine tonight after Boris and she told me they have a actually knocked down walls in schools in Lombardy to make bigger classrooms to allow for one meter around each pupil. They and the kids wear masks to and have pretty good ventilation.

They haven't got everything right though they have a crazy daily changing colour system for what they are allowed to do:

Red-stay at home
Orange- you can go to the shops
Yellow-restaurants can open.

A different colour every day!

PumpkinPie2016 · 04/01/2021 22:21

Heard from our head. Remote teaching continues for all year groups but staff can choose to wfh or in the building. I think that's fair.

I am going in due to rural wifi Smile

Does a vulnerable child also mean someone who hasn't got internet access at home or is bad at logging in?

Completely agree with this. Well done @noblegiraffe and thank you. You’ve kept us all going in some really shitty times.
