You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give the staffroom password just in case it attracts the wrong sort

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom and you will receive a detention

Having said that my English gcse was 100% course work.

SantaAssociationRepresentitve · 04/01/2021 20:19

I feel safer staying in the Staffroom - we will be slaughtered on other threads with calls with us to be sacked, furloughed or hanged

It would be perfectly possible to put exams like maths and science online.

Like those English and maths tests you had to do for pgce. (Still do??)

Piggywaspushed · 04/01/2021 20:20

Schools are safe to many parents meant 'safer than anything else' as if there was some extra safety afforded.

DS1 is having a meltdown. he so wants to go back to uni. he wants a haircut and beer in a pub and some freedom. He is not good at bigger pictures.

TheEchtMeaningOfChristmas · 04/01/2021 20:20

Love that Boris Johnson still says schools are safe, just vectors - the definition of unsafe, I'd say. And teachers not on that list for the vaccines. Hmm

It will be interesting see what is done about exams - its easy in Victoria, there is only one exam board and the government runs it. Forgot about IB.

I don't know; the data and maps to day are extremely sobering.

I found an area of York with 1500 rolling rate earlier (York really stands out.) That was tier 2 till last week. And very few cases.

Piggywaspushed · 04/01/2021 20:21

You made me feel old neuro! I started teaching during 100% coursework!

I wish the BBC would stop saying parents are homeschooling kids. No they aren't. We are!!

HercwasanEnemyofEducation · 04/01/2021 20:21

MrsH I really think the choice is important. Let staff make their own decisions.

NeurotreeWenceslas · 04/01/2021 20:22

Ahhh poor lad Piggy.

NeurotreeWenceslas · 04/01/2021 20:22

(Sorry piggy!)

Piggywaspushed · 04/01/2021 20:23

Did you hear about Isle of Wight?? Virtually no cases in early December and then over 1000 in the space of three days.

Monkeytennis97 · 04/01/2021 20:24

@Piggywaspushed

On the whole, I feel so much safer now though.
Same here. Have felt euphoric all day because of it. So sad I won't be able to see DS again for a while but relieved to feel safer.
SansaSnark · 04/01/2021 20:26

I feel safer too but I'm so confused.

Has he been forced into school closures by NAHT action?

Were they originally planning a lockdown with schools open?

Why on earth open schools for one day only?

Saucery · 04/01/2021 20:29

I did feel quite safe today because lower rates than the end of last term, but I know it wouldn’t have stayed that way.

I feel for your DS1, piggy. Must feel relentlessly shit for him with Uni being a finite timescale.

Oh Christ. I knew they'd jumped from t1 to t4
PumpkinPie2016 · 04/01/2021 20:34

Glad that schools are now remote for the time being -at least we can work with that.

I have a million and one questions about my 11s and 13s though. I hope they hurry up with the assessment detailConfused I 'see' both groups tomorrow and they will no doubt be asking bless them Sad

MrsHamlet · 04/01/2021 20:34

@MrsDanvers123

If it's just English and Maths, some schools will run with 100% timetables of both subjects for the foreseeable Hmm
Fuck no. I only teach y10 upwards as is it and I really don't need any more time with year 11!!
MrsHamlet · 04/01/2021 20:36

It's about perception, apparently. Perhaps I'll send him all the emails I got from parents last time...
NeurotreeWenceslas · 04/01/2021 20:41

Any news on sen?

GravityFalls · 04/01/2021 20:43

There is a bright side...I don’t need to worry about going to see my HoD tomorrow after all! Every cloud and all that...!

NeurotreeWenceslas · 04/01/2021 20:44

Just remembered that last time ds's school had to limit KW places to people with 2 parents only.

NeurotreeWenceslas · 04/01/2021 20:45

Grin gravity!

MrsHamlet · 04/01/2021 20:45

Hooray, Gravity

SansaSnark · 04/01/2021 20:50

Cornwall is similar- our cases have increased by nearly 200% in a week. It's quite scary.
MsAwesomeDragon · 04/01/2021 20:52

I don't even know what to say. I don't want to be teaching online for that long!! What do I say to my year 11 and 13 classes??! I see 2 year 11 classes tomorrow, what can I possibly say to them?

Yay for gravity! Silver linings everywhere.
