You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give the staffroom password just in case it attracts the wrong sort

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom and you will receive a detention

UNISON also asking schools to use the closure time to redo all risk assessments and consider social distancing etc.

Sorry for your loss mums Flowers

Cantaloupeisland · 02/01/2021 22:55

It's utterly ridiculous and shows just how terrified some people are of anything that isn't 'the norm'. Thirteen weeks out of school a year doesn't ruin our children's lives and futures but two weeks of learning at home rather than in the school building will, of course.

WherethebejesusisGav · 02/01/2021 22:56

Night mums

Take care.

Cantaloupeisland · 02/01/2021 23:00

I'm now totally avoiding the cv board, there's so many threads all repeating themselves and it's not doing my wellbeing any good looking at them!

HarrietDVane · 02/01/2021 23:01

@mumsneedwine ThanksSo sorry for your loss

@MrsHerculePoirot

Bloody hell, I step away for a few hours and you’re 11 pages further on!!!

@SansaSnark you asked pages back about NEU and secondary return on 11th. I asked this in webinar but didn’t get answer today sad they were focused on primaries opening Monday. They said there would be a zoom call on Tuesday focusing on secondaries. Word on my NEU whatsapp is that essentially it will be the same - and that they will be pushing for remote to continue that week. But basically wait until Tuesday!

@HercwasanEnemyofEducation not too late to join NEU: they’ve had an unprecedented number of joiners apparently over the last week or so. Right now I would join I think.

My rep has decided to send the letter regardless, to say we won't be doing an in person inset on Monday or going into school for the rest of the week.

I guess maybe she has jumped the gun a little bit, but we will see what happens!

SaltyAF · 02/01/2021 23:20

@MrsHerculePoirot, I've made the jump to NEU.

MrsHerculePoirot · 02/01/2021 23:21

@SansaSnark would you be able to pm me their version of the letter? I’m rep and working out how to word should we need! Obvs take out anything identifying etc...

this thread shifted quick :)

Iamnotthe1 · 02/01/2021 23:31

So confused. I'm seeing teachers on twitter who must have some real cognitive dissonance. A few weeks ago, they were critising the Government and DfE and calling for more measures to be in place and for the unions to do something. Now, they are having a go at the unions and saying that they are trying to turn staff and heads against each other.

Either you want something to change or you don't - it makes no sense to me.

noblegiraffe · 02/01/2021 23:35

Birmingham and Wolverhampton have written letters to the govt supporting primary schools who don't think it's safe to reopen, plus the Swale academy trust who have schools in Kent and Sussex.

noblegiraffe · 02/01/2021 23:36

So sorry to hear about your colleague, mumsneed. Terrible news :(

StanfordPines · 02/01/2021 23:36

I’ve heard that if you jump unions now the new union won’t support you in COVID related actions as this is an ongoing issue that started in March.

hedgehogger1 · 02/01/2021 23:38

Apparently the government is starting a new add campaign next week to recruit more teachers and nurses from the masses of unemployed

hedgehogger1 · 02/01/2021 23:40

So sorry @mums. I hope you have a restful night

MrsHerculePoirot · 02/01/2021 23:49

@StanfordPines I don’t think that is true? The NEU were actively encouraging people to join them because of this I thought?

MrsHerculePoirot · 02/01/2021 23:52

From NEU website “ With the exception of issues relating to coronavirus, we are unable to offer representation or assistance including legal advice with problems that arose before you joined the National Education Union.”

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 02/01/2021 23:54

Johnson is on Marr tomorrow. Wonder if that was always the plan because Brexit, or whether they are wheeling him out for other reasons?

Considering it looks like we'll be lots of staff down next week, to the point we might have to close, I've spent my evening sorting out the phase webpage on the school website, and uploading vids to youtube.

And watching Dodgeball, because Dodgeball...

Panickingpavlova · 03/01/2021 00:37

Allow you to work with from home if you have a compelling reason?.

Can you send a recording of van tam at the last press conference!

CallmeAngelina · 03/01/2021 00:37

I would assume that's the same sort of thing that a health insurance company might also say; you can't make claims until after the policy has begun. But I would think the current Covid situation is a different thing.

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 03/01/2021 00:46

I found something nice to send to all the teacher bashing cock-holes on health at the minute. I'm also just reporting loads of them - that's what MN told me to do.
